Title: Securing our servers?
Post by: Sn00ks on November 28, 2009, 08:40:12 PM
So here I am wanting a quick L4D2 game and I find that our servers are full of others!
I thought that the server keyword was set so only by searching for that or connecting direct to the IP would find them, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
I know that in their wisdom Steam have decided to do away with a server password but the search key should suffice to stop people finding our servers?
Can someone check to see if the search key is set correctly?

I thought about just restarting the server to kick them off, would that be wrong of me?

PS maybe sv_steamgroup_exclusive can be used so only players in our group can play?

isnt it in the communities interest to have the servers available to the public, and by that increasing the recruitment player base?
i know this goes agaisnt our normal way of running the servers, but setup atleast 1 reserved spot, so if the server is cramped with outsiders, a admin can join in and "educate" the new ones in the ways of our community.
Or create a second l4d2 server, which only members can join as suggested by dear snooks..
if we just had the one and made it exclusive just for us, then we would eliminate any way of recruiting in that game section

and yeah id say restarting the server to boot outsiders is a bad idea, would alienate any possibility of them returning, if even one of em was a possible member, which would like the way we do things, it would be a loss to the community.

Just my thoughts
