Title: 24 port hub =)
Post by: A Twig on September 24, 2003, 05:04:36 PM
My school may be throwing out their old D-Link 24 port hubs and I may be able to get hold of them, if so would anyone be interested??? Bear in mind that at present this is only a possibility...

hehe, well, if your after freebies I have two quality pre-war (not really, but they are old) D-Link 12 port hubs (yes, they are hubs, not switches) that can be linked together via a backplane connector.

They are 100mb, so if you have a 10mb nic then they are no good. They are about the size of a VHS machine and have big fans that keep you awake at night (they were in the server room when in action so no probs about noise)

Also, an old Macintosh 60 (I think, sorry not a beardy wierdy mac operator) that is gathering dust in my server room, along with monitor and one button mouse (lets face it, most mac operators are out of their skulls and can't handle more than one button)

I have a HUGE full tower case that contains more metal than a small car.

An IBM RS/6000 minus SCSI drives (currently in our graphics dept's G3) it has a 200mhz RISC proc, 512 or maybe 1GB, can't remember, of RAM no keyboard mouse or monitor, but it takes PS/2 KB/Mouse and a normal monitor. Oh, also has IBM AIX software. I tried loading up linux on it ages ago but failed. It's a lovely looking machine that cost us nearly 15 grand when it was purchased, now it is skip fodder.

An ISDN router/4 port hub with dead firmware. It's brand new but the firmware corrupted when updating and I can't be bothered to try and fix it. I think it's a d-link too. Not sure though.

CCTV Multiplexer (8 cameras I think), time lapse video recorder. Not used anymore and again are taking up space in my server room!

All above are skip fodder unless someone chimes in.

I've probably got other stuff (I'm sure I have some old 15" monitors about that will be smashed in the skip) and will add too.

So, anything take anyones fancy?

I may be interested in the RS6000, one of my clients is an AS400/RS6000 specialist and so it may be possible to get the thing spec'd up and running at minimal cost..........we should talk at the LAN

ok, as long as they are coax cameras (standard cctv fare) then it's yours. PM me a shipping address and I'll send it up to you.

Oi !! BITCH i was there first, stealing a mans thunder.  Who's betting your shitey cams are bought from B&Q, have about 50 lines and refuse to work in under 10000 Lux.  But seriously, do your cameras plug in through the scart adapter?  If not then forget it Stryker.  Bnc's all the way is the daddy.

If Stryker has the right kinda cameras for it then by all means he can have it, if not can you not just bring it to the LAN and i'll gladly take it off your hands, rather than sending it.

Any idea how old the timelapse is?  How many hours on the service timer?

It's had about a years use. it's a really cheap and nasty time lapse video and is nearing the end of it's life. I'll bring them if you do want them. If not we can sell it to the yokels in the area for some mead  :lmfao:
