Title: Mobile phone insurance
Post by: GhostMjr on January 02, 2010, 10:30:06 AM
So i have a iphone 3gs 16gb and i want insurance as its worth alot of money to replace if i loose it.

Now as my home insurance is not in my name (my parents instead) i want to get some low cost mobile insurance.

O2 wanted Ã,£15 per month, Carphone warehouse Ã,£11.99, which felt too much considering o2 use to offer Ã,£7.50 for insurance to customers on apple phones previously.

Found a company called CUSC which offers Ã,£59.99 = Ã,£4.99 a month for the insurance per year and even if i had to pay the Ã,£50 excess it would still be cheaper than the o2 rate plus the Ã,£25 excess.

Know of anything cheaper?

Terms of the cusc are here:

i think that you would be wasting your money personally. I never insure my phones, the onthing that insurance covers is if you loose your phone, even then most companys will charge you about 3 months line rental for early termination (there for not a lot more then the insurance), then you just get another contract. I dont earn an I phone but from what i have heard if it breaks down you take it in to the shop and if they cant fix in 30 mins they give you a new phone, so insurance is not really needed.

have a look in to this as it may well be out of date.

If your home insurance covers accidental damage that is the route to go down.

T-Mobile wanted Ã,£6.99 a month with a Ã,£50 excess. For an 18 month contract works out at Ã,£175 if I ever claim. That's on a phone that's only worth about Ã,£400.

Ask your parents if they're ok with you paying the excess if anything happens. If they have protected no claims it won't cost them any more than that. After all it's what insurance is for.

Ok the iphone is my main phone now after my old phone and sim being blocked from this afternoon as planned. So i will start taking it out into the brave world.

Who do you insure your mobile with?

I have looked into cusc reviews and sometimes they are good sometimes they are bad but so are both o2 and orange.

Who would you go with?

Endsleigh is Ã,£39 with a Ã,£50 excess for mobile phone cover including airtime cover (if they use you phone to rack up bills etc).

I'm not sure if you can get that without paying for household cover to (minimum of Ã,£16 extra, and this is supposed to be for students so you'd still have to double check you're covered.

Why not just live dangerously? You can put a limit on daily uses for contract mobiles, i used to have mine on Ã,£20 a day so if it went over it would auto block. Just pay more attention when taking it out and you will be fine.....
