Title: It's Sunday
Post by: Armitage on January 17, 2010, 01:07:33 PM
I doubt i will make tonight. I have a studio shoot later today, so tonight should be pp.
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: Benny on January 17, 2010, 01:10:55 PM
I should be on, am easy for missions, although we had a pretty good stab at Hijack yesterday with 3 and it turned out pretty well.

If we have higher numbers then maybe Morning Star 1, or hunt Waldo?

Open to suggestions?

(You have a studio shoot Arm? You modelling veet again?)

We need to edit cipher to add revives. I think that may be the way forward.

Norrins revive script will work;
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74396

but there's an easier one to use, but I've forgotten the link. You need to add another marker to the map and then add some files to the directory tree on the editor. I think I can do it, I'll try later.

Agreed. Cipher is too large, and the enemy AI too unpredictable (getting pinged by a Shilka from 500 metres away, through a wood no less, isn't funny) for an insta-death mission.

I'll be online tonight for a few games and a bit of playtesting if required :)

Aye, I've got revives on my mission which is on the server...but I've also managed to limit the players somehow. (Although I'm sure it's Oldie's fault).

I'll play with that later too and see if I can fix it. Working text hints and map id's are working (ie; head toward the house-clicky to show on map) , but I'm having a few 'hiccoughs' with task and objectives.

I'll be back from sunny Val D'Isere and raring to go by this Sunday!

Which mission did you tackle?
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: delankster on March 08, 2010, 04:27:34 PM
Was MEU Raid 15 i believe

You have to attack 2 outposts, Before making your way to the extraction point
both bases are very well situated on hills
making any assualt on them difficult to say the least :)

I've just come back Val D'Isere !

There's some lovely new runs open aren't there - Plus the of favourites like La Face de Bellvarde - which this year we had the pleasure in skiing in knee-deep snow and zero visibility.... oh well that's what the hip-flask (dutch courage) is for lol.

If conditions are the same then the glacier on Le Fornet had some great skiing.

Just got back, I'm not your standard I'm afraid Pen, first time I've ever been in any way shape or form, plus I was on a board....

Managed to get myself down o.k and orange without killing myself which I was pretty pleased with. I struggle when it goes from soft to ice and find my ass makes a firm contact with the floor :)

It is lovely there though, I think I've been spoilt. I'll definitely go again, but can't afford where we stayed!

La Fass...

And back on topic, I've never tried the MEU ones, are they good?
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: delankster on March 10, 2010, 04:15:01 PM
Must admit I not tried them until this wk.

MEU Raid 05 (15) worked well and as twig mentioned elswhere we completed with 4 of us

We then had a bash at MEU Raid 04 (22) which was quite a good mission if not a little spread out.
there was a slight problem with it but might be worth a revisit

All in all worth Checking out the others in that series :)

"Shoot him in the leg"

I would like to point out that the suspect shot me in the face, so deserved whatever he got...
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: Benny on April 20, 2010, 09:15:17 AM
Let's put this into perspective soldiers.

We assaulted a convoy with no loss of life, we maintained our position for the QRF and again, there was no loss of life amongst those that followed orders...then admittedly we had a corpse bundle on Toby later on, when he established there was still some resistance, so I checked, and he was right.

On the second mission, the bloke had shot Twig in the mouth and frankly deserved it. I'm working on a '24' script where we can break his fingers one by one, but I fully support the level of force used, it was a necessary precaution, plus I'm pretty sure he looked at me 'funny'.

(good games though :) )

well that was great fun:D
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Unfortunately I had a ctd and couldn't reconnect:sad:
It was a strange one, the game crashed so I went for a fag while the egg timer did it's thing, but after a minute or two my Mrs called me in because my headphones were screaming. and I really mean screaming, if I'd been wearing them I would be dead now, it was that loud. the pc didn't respond to my efforts, ctrl/alt/del didn't get task manager up so I did a hard reboot.
I looked at speedfan as soon as my pc was up again and all cores were very hot, in the high 90's.
Then I couldn't seem to get past the loading screen.

Anyway, I'll be back for a bit more of this.
I didn't have a clue what was happening for alot of the time...so a bit like proper conflict I would imagine.

I may regret asking this but where can I find the latest patch? I see there's a few beta patches about but not sure which one we're using here..
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: Benny on May 25, 2010, 11:01:00 PM
We're running 1.05 which is the current live patch.
http://www.arma2.com/support/updates/folder.html?lang=en

There are a number of beta's around but I would only play with them if you experience issues in game. There are some settings we can try before that though. Give me or any of the regs a shout if you need some help and we can arrange a quieter mission as a run through. It's better than doing the built in bootcamp and you can see what the game is like.

After the main games last night we fired up one of the new ones where you are a squad leader and recruit your own squads to do the mission.

After Benny and Co couldn't find an Arms Cache if they tripped over it,  myself, Sulky and John stayed on and played around. John found the arms  cache and I took it out with the Apache.

We then got the "Task completed" message and another mission came up,  "Defend the position", we piled over to that area, I sent in two manned  Blackhawk's to cover the area from the air and John went in with troops  with Sulky doing the airlift.

That mission was completed and we got another to capture an enemy  general, this was a pretty hard mission with just the three of us and  our recruits. John lost a lot of good men and Sulky was shot down a few  times over the area, as were my Blackhawk teams.

I piled on in with the Apache and took out a lot of vehicles, but they kept coming.

After a lot of deaths, John and Sulky left, but I stayed around.

I was shot down over the area and managed to bail under gunfire, I took a  few hits and shot a few pursuers and found a house to hide in. I'd just  got one of the surviving members of a Blackhawk team recovered by the  other team and they were back at base. I made one man get out and get in  another helicopter and then brought them both back, with one landing in  front of me while the other flew over the area.

A lot of red showed up on the map, proving that they had actually pursued me all the way to the house.

With the Blackhawk covering from above and attracting their fire whilst  laying down covering fire, I ran and got into the chopper and was  extracted back to base. I pulled the boys back with me and got the  choppers repaired and fully manned again. I picked up the Apache and we  went back.

With two Blackhawks circling the area I moved in and took out their main  patrols with the team, the area was clear and so I landed and did some  searching, I found the general in an outpost and captured him and got  one of the Blackhawks to land so he could get in.

We all extracted back to the main base, got out, completed that  mission and another popped up. At that point I decided it was very late  and logged out.

This is a great set of maps for getting people to use the squad management options. I myself found it fun and it could be amazing with a load of us on their with our own squads.

Squad leaders are tied to their own class, so only the pilots can fly the choppers, crewmen for the tanks... etc.

Yup, although maybe he was trying to plead with you to end the futile war and make peace.... rght up to the part where you shot him in the face.

Another way to see enemies is to check the map. Any baddies that we have spotted will be shown as red dots or icons on the main map.

I'm wondering about the use of Armour in the Domination maps. While I can understand that Domination with four players is a big ask, we did get smacked hard as soon as we appeared above the town. I'm trying to think of a way we could use the tanks more effectively. Is there any mileage in getting some anti tank troops closer to the town and taking out the armour first. Then we can role in tanks with some degree of safety. Obviously others have far more experience of this map than I do, but on the four or five times I've played it I've been tank driver. For such an impressive piece of hardware it doesn't seem to last very long or do much damage.
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: BrotherTobious on April 11, 2011, 10:03:20 AM
To be fair last night we rolled over the top and was picked up by a T-55 and then artilary, I think last night I was a little gun ho.  There is a lot of ways of doing, I think the best one when I was leading was getting lib to give use air support in the apache and taking out lots of Armor.

But vehicles full stop are just giant bullet/rpg/artillary/helicopter/A-10 magnets on both sides : )
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: DrunkenZombiee on April 11, 2011, 10:03:25 AM
It is normally RPG infantry that are the real problems as are they are more mobile, harder to spot and can be pretty much anywhere. There also tend to be a lot of them in towns.

Really hard to avoid the rockets too as by the time you have spotted them coming towards you its too late.
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: smilodon on April 11, 2011, 03:43:13 PM
Ah OK. It's just that I've been tank driver on about four occasions and this is generally how it ends for me. Agreed last night was a bit special. I just have no idea how tanks are actually used in modern combat. Are they mobile gun platforms that move to a location and fire on a target like fixed artillery and then move on to the next location? I've even seen pictures of tanks that are dug in and covered in camo nets. Orr are they truly mobile platforms which never sit still for more than enough time to fire once. then they move on? I know as infantry we never spend long firing from the same position as the enemy can then get a bead on us. I wonder if this might be true for tanks as well?
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: BrotherTobious on April 11, 2011, 04:22:12 PM
I think it comes down to style of play. Maybe we should be using them more as support role, in when we see somethings big and armoured then bring up are own tin can of noise.
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: Tutonic on April 11, 2011, 05:06:35 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armoured_warfare#Present

To summarise: modern tanks kick arse in open terrain, but they suck at urban combat (and are probably heavily reliant on friendly infantry to keep them alive). Therefore, us trying to take armour into an angry enemy town = bad idea.

Good game tonight guys :) getting a bit more used to it, i could do with a pointer about what weopones etc you need to take with you, mainly surface to air and the rockets that take out things within towns, i get a bit confused when people say there is a "(complicated name of a enemy threat goes here)" in the town take it out! lol

Much prefer Domination with Revive, alot more fun

The Dragon/Javelin is guided, which takes some of the guesswork out of aiming. The down side is you can really only carry one rocket (if you want bullets to go with it).

You can easily carry 3 MAAWS rounds into a fight, and still have some bullets, hence why it's sometimes a better choice if you know you're not going to be easily re-supplied.

Cheers for the games tonight guys :D

Sorry if im pants but my rig seriously doesn't seem to like this game and i dont know why!
when i am driving anything im all over the shop, when i tell it to move left or right it takes literally 2 seconds for it to move and when it does it moves far too much.

Also, when i move on foot i get a horrible distortion, i have tried changing graphics settings and all sorts but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The game is playable but not to the extent where i can keep up with you guys.  Anyone got any suggestions? i can run most up to date games with decent graphic settings etc.

I understand there was a bug where the game didn't pick up all threads but i believe Toby sorted that out for me at the LAN so not to sure now what else to do....any suggestions?

My broadband has fallen down this weekend and so unless something miraculous happens I won't be on-line tonight. An engineer is coming out on Monday so hopefully normal service will be resumed soon and I'll be about on Tuesday to patch you all up and salvage something from your usual tactical monstrosities.

I've had a bit of that, I feel your pain.

Seriously not amused when the Yanks completely fail to realise what time it is for me, and start yammering on about cats and guns.

Great games last night gents, were it not for a bug we would have had Cypher completed - great job.

We were so close to finishing Delta Force with 3 of us, until our rescue chopper got riddled with 50 cal rounds :(
Title: It's Sunday
Post by: smilodon on November 21, 2011, 12:03:15 PM
I'd like to have another go at Delta Force. Toby's plan of moving fast through the town worked well and it would be nice to actually finish it with an Evac flourish. Obviously we need to do a better job of clearing the landing zone first though :D

Yep, fire & maneuver worked a treat.

It's those big KORD mounted weapons on the rooftops we need to watch out for. Even if you snipe the gunner, another AI will often wander over and take his place.
