Title: Securing the servers
Post by: Sn00ks on January 07, 2010, 10:22:14 AM
After two hoicks joind last night I thought I'd have a dig about on how we can secure our servers. I found this http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=4146

The bit that is relevant is:-
Private, through sv_search_key

If you'd like to still use the lobbying system but to only allow certain players to form lobbies and connect to it, this is the option for you. By setting this command in your server.cfg or autoexec.cfg, you restrict it to users who use the same command on their client:

Code:
sv_search_key "yourpassword"

After this is set, the lobby-leader-to-be will need to pull down the developer console in his client and enter the same thing there, before he creates the lobby. He will then be able to connect to the server (assuming it's empty).

So whoever starts the lobby will have to run the sv_search_key "blahblah" followed by the mm_dedicated_force_servers "IP list" commands before starting it.

I think we could leave it open and put a MOTD saying 'no comms - no play'.

Last nights 2 were ok players, but had zero comms from what I could make out. That way we can kick as needed.

It would be nice to fill a couple of servers in my opinion?

OK sounds reasonable. I guess if we segregate ourselves we'll never attract new blood and having a few others in will spice the playing up a bit. We can always take Lib's tactic of restarting the servers if we need to kick some off so we can get on, although I have in the past used HLSW to send tehm messages and they have been reasonable and dropped off, I did allow them to finish the finale they were in the middle of.

I think one had comms, I'm sure I heard a voice I didn't recognise, but he only muttered something once.
