Rite then ppl heres the problems at 1st steam jus wouldnt load up cs now it will so thats ok. So heres the prob i managed to log onto meathook 1 time for about 10secs then it just stopped not laggin just locked out but i could see that aztec (the map it was on) was particually dark so i tried to go into the graphics setting but i always get a fatal error noooooooooooooooooooooooo, so thats bout it but in bout dec or oct im gonner build my 1st pc :D :D hers the spec

Grim, are you after help with building your system or help with getting CS to run properly?
The system specs look nice, whether or nto you should change anything depends on what you wan tto use it for and whether or not you want to overclock it. CAS2 RAM will do better, but in normal use you will not really notice any difference at all. Enermax is a solid top-drawer performer. Personally I wouldn't go for the IBM HDD, I would shove my faith in the Maxtor or Western Digital 8MB models which are virtually the same price but have 4 times the cache of the IBM model. Maxtor also do ATA133, but then you could get a Maxtor SATA HDD for only a few pounds more - makes for much nicer cabling :) P4 2.4 should run most things just dandy, especially 1.6! Just make sure you get the 800FSB modelk with a D1 stepping if you wanto to do any overclocking.

Well I reckon that steam is just water molecules in a vapour state but that's not important right now.
Grim, joking aside your question is short and has a 3 week answer. Can you elaborate please? The more specific you are the better we can try to help. It may take you a while to post, but take you time and write it down in a sensible order. We can then try to pick out the bits that may be of help to you.
For example, did you run the chache version, the new cache version or the small installer?
What errror message?
At point point do you get the error?
Have you changed anything that changed the error?
Can you log on to steam or not get onto steam at all?

Ok then i can log onto steam i can get it to load up into cs but when i managed to log on to meathook it locked out within about 10-20 secs of my seeing the map, i noticed that the map (aztec) seemed darker than usual so i tried to shange the graphics in the settings but when i press on the graphics tan i get error close or details, im not sure of the exact wording cus steam is updationd its self but it seams to stick on 32 % for bout 1hr. i tnk thats about it

Hi Grim. From the main Steam menu select "Games" , then right click "Counter Strike" and select "Properties" . The status should show "ready to play". If not you need to update before you can play successfully.
I know you might have already checked this but you haven't said.

Try to change the video type from DirectX to OpenGL or vica verca.

thats the prob i cant get to the graphics tab on the options screan i just get the box that has bllllaaaaa must close then 2 boxes details and close
Sounds like a borked install ?
May be worth reinstalling Steam, HL and CS if all else fails. :(
already tried oh well im mite jus have to wait till my new pc gets here
