I don't think it is really. The phone is so tightly integrated into the Apps store, iTunes etc that the cost probably outweighs the benefits. is there actually anything you want to do with the phone that Apple is preventing you from doing? Jailbreaking basically allows you to install applications not approved by Apple.

Also everytime Apple update the iPhone software (currently v3.12 I think) they un break the phone meaning you have to jailbreak it again. usually each time this happens the process, software etc for re jailbreaking the phone changes.

You can do something similar on the Android phones but frankly I couldn't see the point. I'd probably just break my phone which would not be covered by any warranty, for obvious reasons.

When the iphone 1st came out, my son got one from the states. He bought some software for about Ã,£30 which unlocked it. He used Orange at the time.
The software is updated regularly, and afaik he hasn't had any problems with it.
I can find out more if you'd like.

Think they are blacksn0w version of the unlock now. Someone at work was saying they had just done it again.

I wouldn't bother though doesn't seem worth it

Thanks guys.

I guess it's not worth the effort.

The only real bugbear I have with it is not being able to send text messages from my PC which would be a lot easier.

Cheers
