So anyone buying this game and do we think it has what dmw stands for?
It's currently Ã,£24.99 on steam
http://store.steampowered.com/app/10680 (http://store.steampowered.com/news/3342/)
Anyone interested?
I have it on pre-order & I'm very much looking forward to it, not sure how some of the game modes would fit in with dMw, but there could well be something in there to suit.
I'll be buying this. If the original is anything to go by it has some potential in small L4D style games, but I think it is unlikely that this will turn into anything huge for us.
As I said though I'm buying it (when my money goes in next month) and will love if other play it too.

Ã,£17.99 amazon as per link, yes i will be getting this one for sure:D
The one on Play.com (http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/10085177/Aliens-Vs-Predator/Product.html) is Ã,£17.99 and has skin unlocks like the Steam one, not sure if they'll be the same though.
Amazon has dropped to Ã,£17.73.
Steamworks game so there should be no difference between the steam version and the disk if it comes with the extras. It'll snap to your steam account and away you go.
I'll be buying the disk as it is so much cheaper.
Good call, the original was stunning online.
My only concern is that it's a bit deathmatch-y out of the box, we would have to establish some 'house rules' to get the best out of it.

There's a co-op mode. Could be of some use to smaller groups. I think I heard something about a 9vs9 multiplayer, but I don't know anything for certain. Could build into a reasonable game with the right conditions.
Just found this I think it is the right version, as in not the 2000 release of the game :)

I'm in the middle of a WOW download at the moment but I'll definitely try the AvP Demo out soon.
So far the game has impressively failed to connect me to a single game.
Matchmaking = b*llocks.
Not impressed.
Just managed to play my first game after 40 minutes of trying to connect.
It's terrible, they've got the MP all wrong. I won't be buying.
The main reason for the 40 mins is that there is a mess up with beta code. But I think it will be a much better on full release with proper ded. servers.
I like it was a little drop in the ocean and swim but it grew on me!!

I'm with him....I haven't played it, I have it, I can't find a game, crock del crapola.
tried a few games this morning.. i was not impressed...
but then again, i was planning on this to be bought for multiplayer games, but mainly SP if its any good, but so far it aint
i had quite a few games and do hope the connection issue is addressed, but as a game like battlefield with some polishing it could become a very good game:g:, i just cant see this being a DMW classic. shame:crying:
next:D
just found this website, which says patch is on the way before release, good site for AVP fans:D

Had a couple of games last night it is ok. I had no idea of what I was doing but that was not the problem. As the others said connecting and getting the game to start is a pain in the ass. If you have a group of 8 people in the game room no problem so just invite freinds to join and it seems to start when it hits 8 people. Sadly the game is just team death match but with three teams. It will be good fun for a blast but no real tatics so far. Will need to wait and see what the patch sorts out and I may need to get some help in *** to do instead of dying!! :D
Sorry, but I'm not buying the "oh it's ok because they're using Beta code" excuse.
This was released as a demo, as in 'demonstration of the full game'.
And they messed up, big time.

Surely AvP will be sold in any quantity on the basis of its single player experience, rather than multiplayer? Not sure why you're getting so hung up on this tbh.
So the netcode is pretty poorly implemented initially - there are plenty of fantastic games that sucked in the first 48 hours of being available. My first frustrating weekend on WoW springs to mind, but people don't remember that now because the game is so polished in it's current state... not saying AvP will be anywhere near that, but beta testing is all of our jobs now since broadband and post-release patches came along :) Why pay a tester when you can set up a feedback forum and get the public to do it for free :)
I struggled to stay connected, gave up in the end, not overly impressed it I must say
downloaded and tried to play, connected but was unable to do anything.
I think it's out of my depth, pc wise:eyebrow:
Got it on preorder, but I was only ever intending to run through the single player campaigns to be honest. Got friends who've played the 360 demo, and they were universally bitching about the fact it was deathmatch, which is really not where a game like AvP excels. You and a load of mates co-op vs 100s of aliens, or vs a single Predator. Now *that* is what multiplayer AvP should be.
I was going to use the demo to test the gameplay but it was such a poorly chosen mode with no single player I couldn't really. I'm looking forward to the single player. Hopefully the multiplayer will be fixed.
Ã,£17 is not bad for a single player game, and if the multiplayer turns out to be less rubbish I'll be happy.
I'm still gonna get it, I dl'ed the demo & so far havn't been bothered to try it out, so it's not really affected my decision either way.
just tried it last night, and tbh i regret spending an hour of my precious life on that..
i has no life, nothing, it feels dead and cheap.. i only got around to try the marine campaign, and by what people say, that was the best campaign of the 3..
AvP and AvP2 were for me stunning single player games. The early part of the marine section was truly one of the scariest gaming experiences I've ever had. In fact I remember a few friends couldn't even play through it they were so jumpy. It nailed the feel of the first and third films (the second was more a space war film than a horror). I was hoping this game would offer more of the excellent story telling and scary set pieces of the originals. Sadly it seems it's fallen well short of it's predecessors level. I'm actually inclined to fish out AvP2 and just play through that again.
Managed to play the demo last week on my 360 and wasn't that impressed tbh. I did enjoy the sound on the game, may be worth Ã,£20 when the price comes down..... if someone buys it let us know how it plays.... ta
played it for a few hours last night and have mixed feelings tbh, could have been alot better or alot worse, it does has atmos thats for sure, graphics are pretty good and smooth only problem was that the game would pause for a second now and then which can be corrected by setting your sound card to 16bit audio cd or dvd, played as the marine in campaign mode which was what i was expecting to be honest from sega (predictable and shallow):eyebrow:but not from rebellion ,atari jag version?:g:
will give the multiplayer a go tonight with some mates and will see what happens but for Ã,£17.99 from play i dont feel i have wasted my money with 3 types of campaigns and a multiplayer and also the prospect of mods.:D
decided to give it another chance this morning, tried both the alien and pred campaign, the game still feels dead and boring... no atmosphere like in oldskewl AVP..
still find graphics to be mediocre at best..
I'm feeling my resolve slipping. I know that game is getting less than glowing reviews but I'm such a huge fan of the earlier games...... I might have to splash some cash.
For Ã,£17 it's ok. I've not tried the online modes but single player is fine. Combat is a little consoley but still playable. I certainly don't regret buying it.
It's no AvP 1, but far nearer that level of genius than it is to AvP 2 which I found to be horrifically broken (in terms of the actual game, and in terms of straying from the fun of the original).
Overall I'd give it:
3.5/5
Pros:
Fun, graphically nice and definitely has flashes of the original in mind.
Cons:
Combat system suffers from being designed with consoles in mind, storyline isn't hugely compelling (though neither was AvP 1), doesn't jump off the page like some other single player FPSs.
i share your views on this game:thumb:
i played online death match with just 4 players and it was great fun, a bit laggy at times but sega have said a patch is on the way.:D

I'm currently trying to work out what it's *doing* to my system. I know i'm not top of the line (Core 2 Quad 9550 - 3Ghz, ATI 4800) these days, but my system takes absolutely everything else thrown at it just fine at 1900x1200, even Crysis (not all settings on Ultra, natch).
I've had to switch to DX9 mode to get AvP to *play* (crashes to desktop on level load on DX10 unless I roll back to the 9.12 ATI drivers. Tried that, but it didn't look hugely different in DX10 and ran even worse, so I re-upgraded). I'm running at 1680x1050 with no AA or AF, shadows on low, to get a playable framerate (particularly in the nightclub section of the marine campaign).
I wouldn't mind having to turn everything down if there was an obvious reason for it, but even with everything turned up full, DX10 mode, and running at about 10FPS the visuals just don't look that impressive. Is it sloppy coding that's making it run so bad, or am I somehow blind to the fact that this is in some way an absolutely astounding looking game?
I was really looking forward to a few of the multiplayer modes, like survivor. Had a go with a mate last night. It was fun, but the level design was very uninspired and there are only 2 levels in that game mode. Having looked through the other modes there really don't appear to be many multiplayer maps, and the ones that are there are mostly recycled single player levels...
Steam deal this weekend with 33% off (Ã,£16.74 from Ã,£24.99) not brought it myself though, maybe worth it for single player?
Ã,£16 for the single player. Just about worth it IMHO... just.
Quote from: smilodon;306549Ã,£16 for the single player. Just about worth it IMHO... just.
If you get 16Ã,£ for downloading their hugely dissapointing game, yeah then it actually be worth it, but paying for it.. not worth money tbh
Tbh, i very much enjoyed the Marine bits, it captures the atmosphere quite nicely.
And unlike the first game the other two story lines are well playable and enjoyable to do.
Yes its not a stunning game, Yes its not the best one of the year, but enjoyed it a lot while it lasted :)
