Title: Cubes!
Post by: b00n on January 26, 2010, 12:23:01 AM
Started learning opengl at the weekend and made a strangely compelling little toy spinning cube thing.  Thought you might like it. :)

Download! (http://www.facemelt.com/cubed.zip)

- Run it and press space. :)

It's written in java so extracting all files and double clicking 'cubed.jar' should work on windows.  No error checking, so no guarantees it'll work on your system, though anyone with a half decent gfx card shouldn't have a problem.

LOL took me a while before I noticed that .jar can be opened with winzip, and so the reason why nothing happened (except that winzip kept unpacking stuff :P)

Good thing you mentioned java, so I could open and run it with that.
As does TL mentioned, what is the bigger picture of cubed???

Well the only real goal was to familiarise myself with the basics of opengl, I will most likely start developing some kind of game but I doubt it will feature cubes to a great extent. :P

Cool.
You can now start coding demos for the C64 :-)

I've been following Rock Paper Shotgun's experiment in making a game using the free Unity toolset.

If you're thinking about trying to design/make a game, it's well worth a read: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/rockpapershotgunity/
