Hello guys
Doorman and I are setting up a test hosted session monday evening.
It will be a test of a possible series later.
Monday we will do a session on Brands Hatch GP in the SpecRacer Ford. Long Practice , 15 minutes Qual and a 20 lap race in the end.
The times are not set yet, but practice will be open one hour or two before the race. The qual will begin at around 2100 CET. Server open from about 1930 CET
Look for Finnglish iRacing, and join us for some friendly testing.
I'm assuming that the hosted option involves a cost?
The reason I ask is because we are revisiting our 'dedicated servers only' policy for games that we want to support. We have been forced to do this as it's no longer the norm for a dedicated server to accompany the release of an anticipated game.
Because this will involve spending the community's cash we have to ensure that the game is likely to be well supported by our members (critical mass) and likely to attract new people to the community for the period of the rental.
If your test goes well (and let me be the first to wish it so) and you think there's an opportunity for the community to get involved then I'm happy to explore further any possible avenues open to us.
I appreciate, however, that you and Doorman might prefer to keep this outside of Dead Men Walking in which case, again, I hope it goes well for you :thumb:

Yes, sadly you could even say it is expensive compared to running an in house server. The cost is $3 for an 4 hour session (whatever combination of practice, qual and race you want. I still don't see it as a competitor to what LFS can offer in that regard for dMw. One thing that *could* be possible for Dead Men Walking is more like the one-event-a-week stuff we are trying now.
The reasons for me to take this outside dMr is that no one in dMw (admin group) has shown the slightest interest in doing anything with iRacing.
Another reason is that you clearly didn't like that we where discussing non dMr/LFS events on these forums. I have posted this invite to other forums too. It is meant as a friendly invite only.
You know I love dMw. It would be great to get some involvement from you/dMw in this great sim. My goal with all my posting here since iRacing was released has been to spark some interest here. I also understand that iRacing is not a main stream game, it is an expensive simulator for the hard core. I also understand that there is big problems involved with supporting it.
There is a maket in iRacing for friendly, mature, non rated racing, especially during evenings GMT/CET. There are some leagues in the US, but very few in the UK.
Looking forward to discuss this with you further.:)
Our test session yesterday went great. We had a few guests and we got to see how we could use iRacing as a platform for just having good racing fun.
I'm sure we will set up similar events on a more or less regular basis in the future. There is even rumors of taking the VW Jettas to Mosport next week.
Until then, thanks.
Good stuff, I'm glad it went well :D I can see the point in keeping the hosting internal and charging for it as it needs a certain amount of commitment on behalf of the racers to keep it serious. An interesting concept.
