We, Dead Men Walking, are a clan that as well as participating in matches, nurture a wider community that play CS in a way defined by our current rules and guidelines.
- The clan is lead by Oldbloke and TeaLeaf.
- PCS is administered by Oldbloke, TeaLeaf, Sadako, JAS, Albert, Smite, Gandalf and Fatbob who also take on the role of Squad Leader for our matches.
- We have two servers that are hosted and administered by our two founding-fathers DogMeat and Stryker.
We're sure you can appreciate the time and effort required to provide the facilities that this clan and the community enjoys.
We think that the MeatHook provides a damn fine home for our community, our preferred style of CS gameplay and the dMw clan. We have one of the most active forums this side of a commercial website's forums and we like that fact that our community contains a wide geographic and social diversity. Members of dMw take an active part in the community and where they wish to do so, participate in formal CS competition through our entry in the CS ladders, leagues and cup competitions. They also benefit from one or two 'perks' that are available only to dMw members.
But we want to change........
So why are we talking about change when everything we've just mentioned seems to paint a nice rosey picture? Because we want to grow our community. We want more people playing CS the way we like it played. We want both our servers packed to the rafters every night.
So who are the people who will join us? Well they're out there and we've let them know about 'PCS' and told them how rewarding it is and how they'll grow to prefer it over deathmatch and how they should read the forums and sign up to play ... but most of them don't. In fact the vast majority don't. We are convinced that they are put off by the sheer wordiness and regimentation of our current rules and also (this may surprise you) by the title '
Professional Counter Strike'. We have some evidence to back this up, gleaned when we last pimped PCS in the major CS forums.
So, in a nutshell, here are the changes that will be implemented in the near future.
- PCS is to be re-launched as TCS (Tactical Counter-Strike) with a new, simpler set of guidelines. The term 'Professional Counter-Strike' does not accurately describe our style of play and has dissuaded players from trying it in the past. Our present PCS Guidelines are far too heavyweight and just as likely to put off new members. Tactical CS is a better description of the way we play. Now we have an experienced 'PCS' community, we do not need to be as prescriptive in our TCS guidelines.
- Dead Men Walking will become a community-based clan. By making -=[dMw]=- a badge of community it will formally recognise the fact that people want to play TCS in preference to deathmatch CS. Further information will follow about this aspect of the changes .
- We will change our clan structure to provide a multi-tiered membership structure. We need to provide a structure that recognises and values the skills and commitment that our members bring to the community. In the past, some members have left or become inactive purely because we fail to do this appropriately. So we will deliver a structure where players whose main aim is to enjoy the fellowship offered by the community will have that environment, whilst those also interested in formal CS competition will have that opportunity too.
- The old forum will be converted to the IPB forum. A new look and feel will highlight the changes mentioned above. IPB gives us that new look and, as well as having some very nice new fuctionality, it allows us the ability to devolve more forum responsibility to moderators. (You will have noticed that this change has already been completed)
- We will update our website to reflect the new TCS face of our community.
- The new TCS Guidelines and the community structure are being drawn up now. When they have been ratified by the admins they will be posted to the forum and all reference to PCS will be substituted by TCS. At the same time we will pimp TCS in all the major CS forums. The new TCS guidelines will emphasise the team nature and objective based style of play that we enjoy today, but they will be simpler, shorter and designed to attract players to TCS not deter.
A few of you may be concerned about these changes. Do not fear change. Stagnation is far more destructive. Clans come and go but this clan and this community are strong. Both have an excellent and hard-won reputation within the CS community for camaraderie, fairness, professionalism and 'cool'. Everyone in the TCS community can and should be proud of that.
Oldbloke & TeaLeaf
Sounds good to me. I await the final information of course, but conceptually this looks really good.
Nice one guys.
Update: Most of the work in transferring from the old PCS system to the spinky brand new TCS system has been completed.
Very shortly we will be posting the new streamlined rules and guidelines along with the new Dead Men Walking community structure.

QuoteOriginally posted by JB@Nov 9 2003, 07:56 PM Do we get to find out what 'it' is before 'it' goes live? See the very first post in this thread. <_<
Well if that's it then why is everyone being so hush hush about it when it was posted over 6 weeks ago? <_<

i have 2 different steam ID's on 2 computers where do i put the second ID (its for Waster(Howy) when he plays round at mine)
Hmmmm. We'll add that one manually when the time comes. :D
Ladles and Gentlespoons,
Due to reasons beyond our control we have to announce that the launch of TCS will now be taking place ... a day earlier than previously announced. :D
Work on the conversion from PCS to TCS will commence from 2pm on Sunday 16th November. There may be some disruption to the forums and the dMw website. Apologies in advance.
I still reckon that the rollout of TCS will be far more professional than the rollout of Steam!
QuoteOriginally posted by BlueBall@Nov 15 2003, 02:23 PM I still reckon that the rollout of TCS will be far more professional than the rollout of Steam! Not if they can't even get the day/date right! Is it Saturday 15th or Sunday 16th? You can't have it both ways. :lmfao:
