Perhaps reserved slots issue needs thinking about - you could in theory end up with a site with no dmw (or admins) and people spoiling the game for others.

If the server is constantly full and we do go to a larger server another discussion regarding reserved slots might be productive.

I wouldn't have thought having reserved slots went against the dmw ethos - could someone explain? :)

I guess the question is - why do we have a BC2 server?
Is it primarily for recruitment? Is it primarily for dMw members to play alongside each other? Or is it a bit of both?

The answer to those may impact decision as to whether reserved slots are needed.

Don't worry Dewey. I'm sure the BC2 admins and GhostMjr will get together to discuss this tonight.

Hi mate, worry about a game - I'm not that sad :D

All I was thinking was - finally a good coop game has come out and I'd like to play with dMw guys ie using team work, comms etc (though I do of course support the recruitment of like minded guests to our server), and if I can't get on our server that will suck as I'll end up on another server playing with people who I don't know.

I shall wait for the wisdom of the BC2 admins and Ghost whose wisdom I'm not sure of  :narnar:

Btw who are the BC2 admins?

If reserved slots are the way forward and are important to enforcing our style of gameplay then they'll be discussed and implemented.

Ghost_Mjr is taking the lead on this game and with regards to admins I'm not sure what's been decided as yet. Several people put their names forward to admin so we'll follow it up with GM to get the list published.

Thanks

One of the difficulties with reserved slots is this:

Let's say you have 8 admins for BC2 and we add them to the reserved slot list.
The practical implication is that on a 16 slot server the maximum number of players allowed is Maxcapacity less ReservedList, which would mean we'd only ever be able to get 16-8= 8 people on the server.  It's potentially less of an issue on a 32 slot server depending on the list size.

As for the server being full, we want it for both members & public.  We'd love to attract new blood to our way of playing and that's GhostMjr's remit for this game.  I'm sure once he has his feet under the table properly that we'll hear more.

Who's the current reserved slot for then?

We only need 1 admin on the server to maintain it in balance. So one reserved slot. On a 16 player server that means 7 a side (can't have odd numbers really), I assume a reserved slot can be held for one of a list of players, if not I guess the two slots can be give to most active admins to make space for someone else to admin if they aren't playing.

Without the ability for an admin to show our style of play 90% of the time our server gains us nothing. We need to push this hard now too. People are scouring as many servers as possible. When they settle into a rutt they're less likely to find us.

That's my view anyway.

I know DMW dont normally go with reserved slots but it does not need to be set up for admin access.  It is setup for the community one reserved slot can make a big difference for people in the community to get in.  We dont need an admin in the game to tell us when there is a problem.  What we dont want is a full server and no DMW.  I think we need a large DMW group to tell the pubs how we want to play.  I think with a full server and and lots of DMW people playing as a team we will get recruits.  All this is made possible by having a reserved slot.  That is left blank until a DMW member fills it.  It then stays full until someone else leaves.

I agree with Magnus. Initially the sever is going to be rammed. If dMw get no use out of the server it's just another server. We can't encourage our gaming style if we can never get on.

One slot lets an admin get on and kick anyone not playing by our rules (there'll always be one, and if not it shows our server is having the desired effect attracting the right people). Should be easy to see those people because they'll probably not be in a squad, or if they are they'll be miles away sniping.
