prefer hardcore
Option 1: es - Hardcore is great
votes: 4
Option 2: o - normal is just my thing
votes: 8
as topic states, what do you prefer, hardcore or normal
edit: the vote title should have stated preference hardcore
Normal, thanks.
I've only played our server, what's the difference?
I voted normal as I think for the next little while it will serve our purpose. I would however welcome HC night or something similar.
I think before most people could express an opinion it would be sensible to set out the differences between the two as I doubt many people actually know what they are being asked to express a preference on. Perhaps you could write a summary Kreg?
I've never played on a HC server. I'm fine playing "Normal" for now however. It's fun for me, I'll have to check HC out at some point, though I'm in no rush.
EZmode
QuoteHardcore turns off the kill cam, eliminates many HUD elements, introduces friendly fire, and turns up the weapon damage to create a more realistic war experience.
quite similar to hardcore mode in cod4
I gotta say after playing it a few times it really rocked my world bfbc2 wise..
currently 70% of a team mainly consists of snipers and medics, why because they are so powerful compared to engineer and assault..
hardcore evens it more out, yeah damage gets higher so its not a big change for snipers as they should be doing insta gib headshots all the time, and medics become so much harder to kill because their continued stream of heals from the med packs dont get to tick as often.. and you wont see medics run around in open spaces areas just ressing people with bullets around their ears, as they know (if their smart) that they themselves will die..
it evens out the classes a bit more, and the best part, people seem to have props using the 40MM grenade launcher without the hud..
all this generally makes people less run around with guns blazing, instead they more often run around in more squad based and use cover to move around.. a lot more tactical
this usually also causes the side effect that there are less snipers as people are moving around in cover more, taking less chance, hence making them less powerful, on the other hand, with a high caliber sniper like the m95 your able to do considerable damage on helicopters, like it would in the real world...
feel free to ask more questions and hint if something isnt making sense, just came home from a 48h work stretch (yes i get to play from work at times :P )
I thought on our server FF was already ON in Normal mode, without needing HC mode?
Personally, I'd not like to lose the kill cam. Otherwise you can spend a great deal of time being taken out by one single person who is camping a single, excellent spot. Killcam forces those people to keep moving, which I think creates more of a balance to the game and it helps educate people as to the potential 'git' places that can be used.
So for now, I'd go Normal mode as I am still learning.
The rate I die at it already feels Hardcore to me. Except when I try and kill the enemy and I release a full clip and they don't go down. Hardcore for me. The kill cam only shows a face on 3rd person of the killer, not much use if you don't know where on the (massive) map you actually were in relation to the killer when you died.
As most others have said I think normal for the time being. I actually prefer hardcore. I played a fair bit of it in the beta but it has a few problems. I they are mainly related to HC mode being a bit of a PC after thought. There is a few weapons and guns that you have no barrel or sight visible when zoomed in so you have no idea where your shot is going. Also a few vehicles also have the same problem but even worse because the shot does not go in the direction you point in and you cant see the shot. I think once these things are ironed out it could be better.
As TL said we already have FF on and I think once we start to warn people for repeated TK'ing by lobbing nades or 40mm and kicking for really bad offenders the game will be played in a slightly different way.
Unless I'm mistaken it actually shows you where they are, watch the screen normal view not the animated stats flash across the top of the screen. Unless I have been immensely lucky with the random shots shown to me, it is the person who shot me that I am watching and the terrain tells me where they are.
I played some HC last night..
The style is completely different in that there's no crosshair, you die very easily and one other thing I noticed was that the "splash damage" from RPG's and Nades is much better. I took out three guys from a distance with an RPG kill..
I have to say it's really growing on me. I would enjoy a HC night once and a while on our server.
So far I'm really enjoying normal, but then again I haven't tried HC mode!

the fact is, you can enable kill cam on a hc server, the base hc config just disables it
I've not been able to get on our server to play so I would rather that we didn't set it to HC.

So having debunked the FF and killcam options, what's left about HC that is different?
actually the two most essential bits
No hud and higher and more realistic bullet damage.

You get a minimalistic HUD (no ammo display, mini-map etc), and the lethality of the weapons is greatly increased.
It's very similar to COD4's Hardcore Mode.
