I know last time that we talked about getting the comps organised b4 hand.
Would it be possible to sort a signup site? or would it be easier to use ink and parchment? I was also thinking that for the main team comps to try and seat people with there teams as much as possibly, I seem to remember that this was a suggestion from the last LAN. Would it be to much hassel and just do random teams again?
Straightforward list of people on a page is easy enough. It would takelonger to code a page than to write it into a post imo.
Seating is a tricky one. Some people want to sit together so I do not think it is an option to choose where people sit based on what you want for a competition team. Once the seating plan is sorted then it would be possible to select teams from the given seating arrangements, but you will always end up with an inevitable element of mix'n'match.
Let's go with the tear off tabs and ice buckets.
Seemed to work well last time out and saves an awful lot of shouting.
Also, the random nature of that can allow for some interesting tactics ;)
Personally, I'd go with random as otherwise there is the potential for unbalanced teams - there is still that potential but it should be very much reduced...
OK here is the timetable from the last LAN.
This thread (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=30537) determined that we don't think we should run Arma II and we can't run BC2 as we can't do a dedicated server.
I'll create the name cards with the tear off strips (no they won't be perforated!) for the ice buckets as sign ups.
Some L4D/L4D2 is a possibility and may be factored in (which variant?)
Games to be played
CS:S (team KO)
Degal (2 man KO)
Cod4 (small team (4/5?) KO)
L4D - Team KO - needs to be a very quick map, not played each way round just each team to play each side.
Race
Timetable - Saturday
11:00 - 12:30 - CS:S Team KO
12:45 - 15:00 - CoD4 & lunch break
13:00 - 15:50 - Deagle
16:00 - 16:45 - dMr
17:00 - 18:30 - L4D
This is very flexible and given our reduced numbers we may get through things a lot quicker.
Discuss, comment + amend as you wish :)
spot on pretty much exactlyl what i was thinking
Cool. Sheep, is there anything else we need to do apart from on the day?
Can someone make a decision about L4D vs L4D2 ?
As L4D2 is the most played at this moment, I'd say go for L4D2 (unless people don't sign up).
I think L4D2 with the new point system, is also better for tournaments, the make for tighter games, so more fun imo.
The icebucket tearoff seemed to work, still, I would like to see the teams more balanced then pure randomness, so maybe after randomization look for the number of beginners and experts in all teams, and see if that is balanced enough. (Its a bit more work but, if it should increase the fun for the other teams in case there would have been and overpowered one)
I will be setting up the LAN server for L4D2. The new content 'The Passing' might even be ready for the LAN.
excellent :)

I agree and it's easy to do. We'll just pre-determine a captain for each time and then randomly draw the other names out of the bucket under each captain. If we think it's better to have two players pre-chosen then that's fine too.

Yeah something like that would work too :)
Line everyone up against the playground wall and let the captains take turns in picking teams.
Worked in school :D
... and the fat kid won't be the last pick as it's virtual gaming :)
Ouch that's brought back some memories. I was always the last kid to get picked. In fact I swear that if they had to play with one person less it would have been preferable to picking me.
No idea why that was but hey ho, I'm obviously not mentally-scarred by it.

I had that too, untill I started getting higher grades, then I suddenly was the 2nd first to pick lol.

If you want to play L4D2 The Passing at the LAN, can we make sure we enough people who know the maps? Otherwise we run the risk of teams running blindly around the place.
So long as one person on each team (Who we'll make captain) knows where they're going then it'll be doable.
Is the new content downloadable from a USB Stick or does it have to be via steam?

Steam only I'm afraid. It's installed by default so no option but to get it asap.
Ok. So I guess we need tell people to start d/l it now so everyone will have it in time for the LAN.
In fact we should probably publish the official games list :)
edit: done!
