Post by: Zootoxin on March 17, 2010, 05:10:38 PM
Because I know nothing about laptops!

Need a new laptop for the wife to be which needs:

15.3" or 17" Screen size
Good battery life
One of those really clear shiny screens
Be able to run WoW and Sims3
Good Sound Quality
Wireless
Not too heavy

Budget: Ã,£400

Thanks

Zoot

Lots of Acers available at that pricemark. You need to make sure of the spec as each model comes in a multitude of configurations.

Good place to start (http://www.simplyacer.com/Laptop+Chooser).

This months issue of PC Gamer (or whatever its called now) has a useful review of gaming laptops with performance vs price for different systems. Also the guy writes a diary over 7 days of his experiences of moving from a decent pg gaming rig to a gaming laptop - might be useful?

Bottom line is for an extra Ã,£300 over a PC you can have similar performance and for a grand a system that will run all the latest games on high settings albeit it on a 15" screen - though the battery life was awful when playing demanding games. Food for thought though.

Oops just saw your budget... :(

I'd say always go for a good brand in laptops. In desktops, you can get away with bamboo PCs because you can select most of the parts inside, but laptops is different. I have had a couple of no names over the years, and also brand models, and I will never ever go no name again.
