Managing apps on your Android phone isn't necessarily the easiest thing. After some time the list can get quite long, and your browse and search options in Android Marked could definitely have been better (rumours has it that this will be better in 2.1, but god knows when we'll see that :sideways:).
I recently came across this article: http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/appbrain-one-third-of-android-market-apps-are-spam/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+androidandme+%28Android+and+Me%29
QuoteEveryone reported that the Android Market crossed the 30,000 app (http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/03/16/google-android-market-now-serving-30000-apps/) mark last week, but how many of the programs are worthy of a download and how do you locate them?
One way to cut through all the crap is to filter out the spam.
AppBrain (http://www.appbrain.com/) is a new service that aims to provide the fastest way to get and share Android apps. The website is paired with an Android client (AppBrain Market Sync) which allows easy syncing between website and phone.
The service recently analyzed the Android Market and found that 359 developers spammers had released 10,000 junk applications. AppBrain now automatically filters (http://blog.appbrain.com/2010/03/appbrain-launches-automatic-filtering.html) out these junk apps so that search results are more relevant.
It is quite easy to test it, as you can sign in using your Google account. I installed it just now, and the first 10 minutes have been only positive. It took me almost no time to get set up on the phone, sync my apps and start managing them from the AppBrain web site.
It gives you a very nice overview of your installed apps, it is very easy to search for new apps and add them to the install queue, or set up existing apps for removal. Next time you use the AppBrain on your phone it'll sync with your latest changes and you'll save lots of time! One thing it'll also be quite nice for, which is something I've missed from Android, is the ability to "bookmark" apps (you can create custom categories) that you do not currently want to install but would like to remember for a later time.
So all you Android users out there: give it a try :)
Signed up for this and I absolutely love it. This is what the official marketplace should be like. Excellent find, thanks.
