Following a CS Nation link I found this site and it appears to contain some useful reading material.

Apologies if it's been posted previously.

I've still not managed to dig deeper into this site but it does concern me that he bases gun accuracy on 'bullet hole' decal placement which, as everyone knows, is client-side guesswork. <_<

Ok, I'll bite - I liked the bit that noted the damage per shot to the various areas of the body as I have not seen that before.  I didn't think through the client side decal issue, so I'll ask the question - how do you measure this then?

The game just boshed up a bullet hole decal in the vacinity of the actual shot and not in the exact place the bullet struck. So you can't can't use the appearence of bullet holes to guide your fire onto a target. Not very realistic but there you go

I know that, but the question was 'how do you measure where the shots *actually* register'?

There was a map called glasshouse I think. Basically made up of loads of small panes of glass.

This used to be used for bullet impacts
