Title: New SuperVillain ROM for Hero matching Desire in performance?
Post by: delanvital on May 11, 2010, 05:15:34 PM
Or so the tests say. This ROM has been stripped down, but includes some Sense components (and Desire components) and stuffed with the regular speed optimisations

About to test it, will post how it turns out :)

Right, after a most odd, expensive and embarassing error while restoring my messages with SMS Backup and Restore (the phone started sending out my 1,701 texts, including orders for metro tickets, when I rebooted the phone) I have the ROM running. It is not lightning fast, but considering the goodies it has, such as the ADW-launcher and Galaxy S drawer, I am impressed. Just about the same speed as my old, tweaked 1.5 ROM, perhaps slightly faster. A couple of bugs, but nothing vital so far. So, the GPS-bug, Wifi-bug, various graphics bugs etc. seems gone...

I've just learned that the ROM is running without JIT enabled still, which makes it quite awesome... and when JIT is up and running I can't wait!

Right, the whole JIT-thing has been quite an experience. Long story short, an evening with the developers and a bunch of other testers in donator's chat, and a JIT-option has been developed for SuperHero 2.1 (JIT won't be here officially before 2.2). So far no major problems, but it does require that you avoid too much Sense, since JIT and Sense is a sure no go, even with backgrounds!

MIPS went from 2.4 to 3.7 in my case and the overall feel is a little better, in combination with especially AutoKiller.

Nexus and Desire phones will have an enormous performance increase with JIT when the time comes (but note, that JIT won't boost all types of programming).
