Peeps, you'll notice some new posts going up in the TCS related draft section. We'd like your feedback please.
Post away, but be gentle with the constructive criticism......we're doing the best we can ;) Seriously though, we are looking for your feedback, so please post a reply to each of the drafts posted.........no response will imply a totally perfect draft to which you all fully subscribe and whole-heartedly support - and we all know that aint gonna be the case! :P

I think that the drafts are very well put. I understand that there are more to come but I have a question.
Signing up will happen through G-Lo's sign-up page right? We haven't abandoned that idea I hope.
G-Lo? who the fek is that!
Looking at the draft TL has come up with, we have abandoned the idea of my sign-up pages as the password will appear in a protected area of the forum.
Makes sence as it's easy to update, however you can't stop dicks like Trip registering and getting the PW unless this forum software can allow dual access?
Anyway, my signup pages was designed to work with the P2 plug-in and, while they can be stand-alone, it seems pointless to use them when there isn't a P2 for steam.

Not abandoned ... just some re-thinking of the objective. G has done some excellent work on the signup but the goalposts have not been moved they've been removed from the pitch. <_<
You see, this is what we would ideally like to achieve ...
When a new player registers for TCS we want to capture their SteamID and a valid email address. This allows us to perform our admin duties i.e. when a player steps out of line we can interrogate their SteamID and send them a warning by email. The P2 mod (which would only allow registered WONIDs to access the server) coupled with G's signup app was a solution. The P2 mod has been 'Steamrollered'. <_<
G's signup without P2 gives us little advantage over the solution proposed by TL i.e. you have to have a valid email address to sign up to the forum. The SteamID can be captured by HLSW.
Food for thought.

I think the ideal solution was the G's front end attached to P2, but we don't have it any more with steam :(
However, we can add a custom field to the forum for registration that requests the steam ID be completed. That way we collect the data and are able to use it if a P2-type solution appears at a later date.
TL.
PS Sadako - I am appeared at least on the surface to get away with G-man, but G-Lo seems to be s step too far ;)
ok, I've made some changes to the sign-in pages.
They are now running on one table, easier to manage and code for (yeah, I'm lazy) and I've changed the oneid field to steamid.
I've purged the database so you'll have to create new logins.
Please test, play, try to break! NOTE: if you create a login, sign in to change your details then create another login and try to sign in again you'll sign in with your first login details. This is because you need to log out first. There is a log out link on the sign in page. I made that mistake! Anyway, people will only be creating one login so it isn't really a problem, just be aware when you're testing.
All of the text needs re-writing and as I don't have access to a thousand monkeys on a thousand typewriters I'll let someone more eloquent than me to re-write it :)
oh, pages here (http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/)
ok, small change. The server password is now stored in a seperate table in the database instead of being hardcoded into the pages. Makes it easier for a pw change. I'll start work on an admin page to get info such as e-mail, username, etc. Also an interface to change the server password and to e-mail everyone with the updated password.
This admin page will initially be access to all who knows the address but it'll be locked down with a .htaccess file when the pages finally go live.
Quick question on the get details. I can add a simple search function in if you know someones username or player tag or even their steam id you can retrieve their e-mail address. Is this sufficient?
ok, password changing and mass mailing the list is now an option on the new admin pages. Again, any text to make it easier to understand is welcome. It'll only be a few admins that have access to this puppy, but it doesn't hurt to make it easy to use.
link here (http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/admin/)
remember, it's not password protected yet, but it will be when the pages go live.
Bear in mind that when you do press the 'Send new password' button you'll be mailing everyone on the database, I'm currently on there twice to test the mail all function, try not to spam me too much ;)
The mails are 1k so they are not huge.

Text re-writing - I can do that
.......let me think about the changes you described and and I'll reply later when I have worked out how it all fits together

ok, a simple search function has now been added to the admin page. At the moment it lists most details. Let me know if you can think of more details to list. I'll probably put the data into a table as you can search with partial terms.
right, it's in tables. next step is to get the damn sorting work! need to pass the vars across the same page. not played with sessions before but I believe this is the way to go. Any tips Stryker?

WOAH!
Not sure why you're doing all this re-work Gandy when earlier you agreed that, without P2, the forum solution works as just as well.
For simplicity's sake it makes more sense to use the forum's built in email verification process coupled with a mandatory SteamID field as part of the forum registration procedure.
So sincere thanks for all the work you've done G-man but for now it should be shelved so that if and when a P2-like mod is available for Steam we can tie it in with your signup tool.
hehe, no probs. it's fun. It does give us the opportunity to have the pages if the forum doesn't work as it's easy to update the password and mail everyone. And when P2 (or similar) is available for steam then the time to release will be short.
