Title: telwest suck :(
Post by: suicidal_monkey on October 10, 2003, 02:43:58 PM
I moved house on the 20/08/03.
I informed Telewest of this fact with a little over 2 weeks warning. approx 06/08/03
I was told they had to contact my new landlord for permission as they'd never installed at my new address before.
My landlord finally got the permission forms on 27/09/03  :eyebrow: over a month and 5 or 6 phonecalls later. He returned them the same day.
Telewest have confirmed reception of the forms but as yet have not been able to arrange an install date for me.

How appallingly useless is that. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH

Well we had ntl bd 512 installed but it kept disconnecting randomly and for over 4 months! We had continueing problems and kept ringing them up telling them are rage, and after about many people coming over to look finally they installed a 1mb cable which they had to dig up are driveway(only shingle). And now are connection is ver good and have had no more problems, its just one of those things i guess.

I had a nightmare getting connected with BY even to the extent of writing (on paper) to the CEO! But since then....Marvelous!

Once its installed and working everything'd be fine again, its just I cant really wait much longer or housemate related violence may occur. Women seem to have a great need for landlines. Personally I'm doing fine without one... <_<

also my pc is getting dusty waiting for a desk and an internet connection (56k doesn't count)

time to get put on hold again...
aaaaaaargh :eyebrow:

the real schlep of adsl is the setup costs :?

£50 install (telewest currently offering a free install but cant bloody well process one stupid letter) and then a minimum of about £50 on a router/modem/switch (more like 80-100 for a more known brandname)

What would the adsl lot recommend? Do I get a router+switch and a separate adsl modem or do I go for an all-in-one package router+modem+switch. Costs wouldn't appear to be massively far apart for either option, although I have seen a few own-brand 4-port switch/modem/router options for around 45-50 quid (ebuyer, dabs, scan all have offerings in this region)

I guess this sort of thing should be pretty safe bet off ebay from a decently marked retailer given that it'll be in a box.
