Title: Hello all.
Post by: Naldo on June 05, 2010, 04:12:23 PM
Hello all I'm Richie I was invited by Sulky_Uk to pop over and check the place out.

I am making a return to PC gaming (Just got my new system yesterday), and setting up steam atm.
I don't fully understand the in's and outs of it yet so a quick question....

Sulky said you guys still use COD4, I have the game here so can I link it to my steam account? I read that I can't join guys on steam otherwise?

Anyway.. I enjoy FPS mostly, BF2,BF2142 COD series etc. BC2 is downloading now. I also enjoy racing type games, but my new wheel does not arrive till next week. Only have rfactor atm though.

My main passion is Falcon4, but I guess there are not many that use it(or know of it) :D

Is there anything special that I need to install or read etc before I make an arse of things

Cheers

Hey Naldo, welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here.

Monday nights are COD4 nights although it's not limited to that night only, just that people will be around & a bit more available for a game then,

as for linking COD to steam, once your up & running look under the "Games" tab up the top & then "Add a none steam game to my library..." I don't think you can do much more than start the game through Steam so you'll still need to manually patch the game & stuff, but once you've added peeps as your friend on there it becomes easier to get games going e.t.c.

& as for anything to read head for the "Bricks 'n' Mortar" section up the top of the forums & have a rummage around in there, you'll find most things you need to know in there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Naldo

The racers are using Live for Speed (http://www.lfs.net/) S2. Easy to get into and still providing excellent racing. Plenty of guys to help you get started - checkout our Teamspeak server for sure as it will make the process of getting you up 'n' running much easier.

Hello and welcome,

with regards to COD4, there is a known problem with running the game in steam, namely the "PunkBuster 125120 driver error"

If you ever get this, you will need to do the following to stop it:

Run the game outside of steam
or
go to steam 'settings' / 'In-game' tab / untick the 'enable steam community In-game'

The problem is to do with the steam overlays, and was caused by a steam update, they haven't got round to fixing this problem yet and has been like this for around 6 months!

See you on the servers!

There should be a MP mode somewhere on the list that pops up when you add a non-steam game.
If not, while you've got that window open, try using the Browse button to find it
Can you get it to play MP from without steam?

Nope, Will not start up using  Steam or desktop shortcut. Tried it with a fresh clean install and with the patches applied..

Very bizarre.

Hey Naldo - welcome to the gang.

If simulations are your thing, then I can't reccomend Arma II highly enough. I'm sure Sulky will agree!

We have guys playing it most nights, so if you grab yourself a copy (it's available on Steam) just swing by the AII forums and we'll get you started :)

Just an update, Gave up on COD4 and bought it again through steam.

Hopefully will sort the issue out...Unfortunutly steam is only downloading for 2 minutes then stopping.

Spent the last 2 days arguing with my router to allow me to connect to servers in BC2, Ended up just opening the DMZ in the end :D

Ahhh... Good old PC gaming... Or is it just me :p

Steam is easiest for games, they tend to work, and if they don't you verify them and it tends to fix them. None of this patching etc, but that is the only difference between the steam and non-steam version, should've been possible to get your original version working. Doesn't matter now I guess. I've rebought about a dozen games I've got on disk on steam just for the simplicity.

As for stuff you need to know, the main page of this site shows the severs we have and when people are playing on the right hand side. It also shows our TS server so you can see if people around ready to jump in and play. You can see all the details of that and all the servers and passwords now you're a forum member in the RED thread with a name like Server details.

Welcome.
