Title: Condition zero
Post by: smilodon on October 11, 2003, 01:50:43 PM
Here's some odd news about CS:CZ.

An article on CS-Nation suggests that CS:CZ has gone gold (i.e. it's finished) and will be released very soon (Nov 18th on Steam and a bit later in the shops).
Check it out here (http://csnation.counter-strike.net/content/news.php?action=search&scope=newscate&type=equal&find=256)
Shacknews and Blue's News seem to confirm this. Of corse the official website is about six months out of date with a Summer 2003 launch date

The reason for the delay seems to be that Valve have binned their developer Rirual and passed the game to Turtle Studios. So far Valve have employed Gearbox and then binned them, then they've employed Ritual and then binned them too and now it's Turtle Studios turn. I'm beginning to wonder if Valve have a clue what day it is. After the Steam debacle we had the HL2 delays, then the CS:CZ delays, then the HL2 code theft (get a firewall people) and now we discover that CS:CZ has been re-done altogether.  This should be good news as Vavle were all ready to release the game made by Ritual. They even released review copy to the press. However the terrible reviews (65% from PC Gamer) probably made them think twice about releasing it in that state. By all accounts the new game is a lot better...

Anyway you can read it on  The CS-Nation site (http://csnation.counter-strike.net/articles.php/article_170/)

or at Slacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/28756)

The previous reviews I read on this game said it was pure and utter shite. I hope they have changed it since.

PC Gamer Reviews CS: CZ

The January issue of PC Gamer features a review of CS: Condition Zero and it received a whopping 72% score. I expected the game to get an 80+ rating because the old graphics will of course deduct from the score and CS singleplayer can't be that much different from the multiplayer part. Lets hear the highs and lows listed in the review, maybe they'll explain the low score:
Highs: Very realistic bots, new and updated maps, bonus single-player missions.

Lows: You can play only as a Counter-Terrorist in the Tour of Duty, dated graphics, no developed story at all.

Bottom Line: A worthy substitute for Counter-Strike, but unnecessary if you've got broadband.
I really hoped the game would build up some kind of story so it isn't just CS Multiplayer with bots and different missions but going by the review that didn't turn out too well. I am still eager to play the game though as rizzuh's review ( http://csnation.counter-strike.net/article...hp/article_170/ (http://csnation.counter-strike.net/articles.php/article_170/) ) showed some really positive points as well.

Now we are all waiting for the release of Condition Zero but nobody really seems to know when that will be. We'll just have to wait and see when Sierra decides to finally get the game out to the stores.

I'll probably get it for the improved graphics, models and beefed up engine. As I understand it the new game has a Tony Hawks Pro Skater style score system. Complete a round with pistols only or with all headshots or under so many minutes will increase the score. Sounds utterly unconvincing and I'm all ready for this to be a £19.99 CS multiplayer upgrade rather than a single player game worth bothering with.

I don't think I will rush out to buy this. I'll wait to see what the feedback is like. TBH anything after Armed and Dangerous is just gonna be so poor. That game is a riot! I loved the rip off from Star Wars where the little guy is trying to mindwash the two guards. Instead of getting them to believe that "these are not the people you are looking for" he gets them to believe they are french so they throw down their weapons and surrender  :lmfao:  :lmfao:  :lmfao:

Armed and dangerous is fantastic fun. I thoroughly recommend it. The humour running through out is fantastic. The graphics are nice and it plays well.

Cs:cz I have played a version of this that was around recently and if its the same one that has been reviewed recently DONT BOTHER. its crap, as a single player FPS goes, its even more boring than unreal II, I can quite safely say this game has nothing what so ever to reccommend it. If they have sent it away to be redone I'm hardly suprised. They can only improve it. Which I have to say wouldn't be hard!!

Like smilo said I will get it simply to have an online cs engine that doesnt look quite so outdated as 1.6

Single player was never gonna replace the online experience

They better not try charging £35 quid for this, it just sounds weak  :(

Man, it is SO weak.

And get Armed & Dangerous whoever you are.

When you've finished it then think about all those people you remember saying Citizen Kabuto (made by the same people) is a fantastic game too. Remember how you didn't pay too much attention, how you always said you might get it one day but then never bothered, then realise you're a berk, then go and buy it (now probably a fiver).

The one you've probably played is rituals version I guess as it’s in some circulation, though the one that will eventually be released has now gone through 2 other developers (turtle rock, and I forget the other one). So the game could have changed a lot... I've got it pre-ordered from Amazon so whenever it’s released I'll get it, only £15, it retails at £20 I think. As you said it puts a better face on cs as it is ageing. (Edit-Typo)
