VillainROM has released a Froyo build (FroydVillain) based on the 2.2 SDK and some 2.2 release, not sure which
It works perfectly, except a few minor bugs. It is plain vanilla non-sense (:getmecoat:) and fast! With the new revised kernel from VillainROM (Eclair ROM, better kernel, an extra download) and running at 700-750 MHz the phone puts out just above 5 MFLOPS using JIT. A tweaked 2.1 with no JIT would do about 3.5 MFLOPS and a stock 1.6 Hero would do 2-2.5. Still a long way up to the Snapdragon MFLOPS, but compared to a stock Desire it performs quite well now.

I tried this as well a couple of days ago, but currently I'm missing Sense UI too much, so I reverted to the SuperHero rom. Apart from the missing Sense UI though, it was really something. So looking forward to them getting an Android 2.2 version of Sense included there :)
And for those looking: here is a direct link to where you can download FroydVillain (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=2140&start=0), and in this post there is a link to the improved kernel (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=2227#p22130).
version 1.1.1 out with better kernel - complete rebuild. New touch-driver which doesnt suck as much battery. No reals bugs and no FCs yet. A more stable build now than SH2.
I hope this is how it works in the future; build Hero builds of android versions from publicly available source codes :)
Typical, I decided to try this out the other day and the very next day a new release comes out. Guess I'll update to this one as the last one seemed very smooth and stable, and the release notes say multitouch has been added in the new version. :) I have to say I'm not really missing Sense UI at all.
Is SetCPU worth getting? How much overclock do you typically get and is the difference noticeable?
