Title: TFT Revisited
Post by: Gandalf on October 13, 2003, 03:53:00 PM
....to lug 40kg of 19" CRT juicyness about.

ok, I've given up on the Hitachi. Seen too many conflicting reviews. Now Oldie (I think, may have been Mr Leaf) mentioned LG being good.

This (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_TFT_Monitors_112.html#amo_2d003_2dlg) looks nice (Silver as opposed to black)
LG Flatron L1710B 17" TFT Monitor

This (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_TFT_Monitors_112.html#aMO_2d002_2dHE) looks very sexy, but not sure on the make. Herc make some good GFX cards but not seen their screens before.
Hercules ProphetView 920 Pro 17" LCD Monitor

The only other one that takes my fancy there is this. (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_TFT_Monitors_112.html#aMO_2d000_2dNE)
NEC MultiSync® LCD1760NX 17" TFT Monitor

Now, reviews on toms hardware and stuff are all very well, but I really want to hear from people who are using these screens in the real world, so if you have one, do say :)

I got me sharp 15 inch tft monitor for only £140 and it does the job fine much better than my other monitor  :D . And just the right size too.

ok, I've just taken delivery of an LG Flatron L1710B (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_TFT_Monitors_112.html#amo_2d003_2dlg) from overclockers.

I've just fired it up on a machine here at work and it looks very nice. very nice indeed.

I'll give a full report on how it handles games later, once I've had a few hours testing it at home.

Thanks Oldie and TeaLeaf for the LG recommendations.  :D

ok, just playing with it now. I must admit, the detail is superb. very crisp, but that is TFT tech for you. It's a bit bright on 100, nocked the brightness down to about 65 until I get used to it.

now for some games :)

How are tfts for games these days? i know early days they were no good due to the response time  :(

At the time that 'opinion' formed the response times were 60ms or more, but the best modern TFTs have response times of 16ms so it is no longer a problem.

I agree, after some fast moving games last night I couldn't detect any blurring whatsoever.

Very nice, and highly recommended.

Out of interest, my main TFT is an older 18.1" LG which has a response time of 40ms (I think), but I have no trouble with blurring when playing games, apart from being blind drunk of course ;)
