Looks nice! Might give Frody another try when I get back from vacation :)
Still hoping they'll manage to get Sense UI built into it though...
IMHO you should try and find replacement apps for the few sense apps that you enjoy. Remember, next Android version will phase out custom interfaces such as MotoBLUR and SenseUI :)
Now upgraded to 1.2.1
After I've been using the latest two versions for a while, with the new CPUspeed adjuster build into the OS, I am very impressed with battery life. I practically went from 1,5 days to 2,5 days or so. With extended battery I get about 6 days. I use the 19-691MHz clock combo, and 19-245 when sleeping, which makes it a bit slow to wake up but the battery life change is noteworthy.
Went to grab the new version, found 1.2.2 - camera was broken in 1.2.0 and now refixed. :P

Yup, I skipped 1.2.0 - in fact, getting my hands on 1.2.0 was close to impossible because the updated version was out right after :)
..and we are already at 1.3.0. Ninpo is funny, you guys should read the desc.

QuoteGPS working correctly in this release without random reboots.
This had better be well received because I ran 15 individual tests of a fresh boot, get a lock on and then rebooting to test first boot lock ons. 15 out of 15 locked on with the usual varying lock on times with no random "GAARRGH" from the phone as it committed suicide.
That's right, we've eliminated the Emo factor of FroydVillain 1.2.x. Emos just don't have what it takes to help you navigate yourself around accurately. Too much effort you see. So we've given it a haircut, spruced up the clothes, washed all the make up off and given it a good stern kick in the arse with a smidgen of framework fixes to turn it into a fully functional member of the navigation society. Hurrah.
Wired Tethering works AT LAST.
Leave it to HTC to make a kernel that's about as future proof as a car made entirely out of tissue paper. From now on HTC kernel "devs" will be permanently thought of by me as evil and mad Jaffar types (Google Disney's Aladdin) with a child's chemistry set bubbling and frothing around them as they set about scuppering any possibly future useful feature just to make us buy newer phones because we can't get Froyo to work properly. Well screw you HTC! Muhahahaha.
Erm, where was I? Oh yeah. Wired tethering works from the Wireless & networks menu. You'll still need an app for the wireless tethering though since the wifi drivers don't support the Froyo method. Yet.
New wallpaper collection.
You can tell I've had extra time on my hands when I start putting things in that people have complained about since FroydVillain 1.0.0 that I consider incredibly low priority. We've brought back the original wallpapers that Nathan put in place and then some. If anyone dares complain about not liking one or all of them I will find out where you live and pay a visit with a TENS machine with the name of your testicles on it.
CMParts makes a return with a different face.
As the changelog for my fork of CMParts states, I've carried out a "Shameful SHAMEFUL rebranding for the Villain project". In the menu it's there as Villain Settings. This satisfies my want for aesthetics and your want of having features from other ROMs all in one ROM. Well maybe not the last part but you've at least got a tool that lets you play around with things you don't understand. Incidentally compcache isn't included in any Froyd release and never will be, so that option will continue to have no effect. It's also worth noting the Battery Percentage setting works with themes too. Hooray.
Japanese keyboard support.
Enough said really. OpenWNN keyboard is included. Pinyin would have been too, however it sucks goats and insists on being the default keyboard and promptly crashing. This is being worked on but for now anyone wanting this keyboard will have to grab it from the market.
More kernels.
The USB tethering fix was a kernel patch so with that and another few minor bug fixes a new batch of Nindroid 2.2 kernels are available. The included in ROM kernel is already up to date. You're welcome.
Better sleep states.
This kernel allows for a deeper sleep when idle not just when the phone is suspended. It should provide a bit of a boost to battery life.
ADW Launcher included alongside LauncherPro.
Since there are weirdos out there who don't consider LauncherPro to be the best launcher since before LauncherPro was invented, you can use ADW. No I will not include more launchers in the future. Two and that's your lot. If you want more ask Santa Claus. Or go to the Market. You might get more luck with the latter. Usually.
Vlingo included.
I don't want to hear whines about including apps people are just going to remove. If you decide to remove Vlingo you might as well remove yourself from the genepool too. Vlingo is awesome. It is awesomely awesome. Vlingo is so awesome I have to brace myself just prior to launching the app. It makes Google's voice recognition look like a partially deaf guy with a hearing aid being affected by radiation from Jeremy Goh's battery semi portable power station.
Themed HTC IME mod.
If you don't like it delete HTC_IME_themed.apk from /system and push the original HTC IME mod. Or theme your own. I don't care. Called it developer's privelage, I included a keyboard that I think looks sweet.
WaveSecure included.
Anyone who doesn't use/like it feel free to delete it but for people with a WaveSecure account it's much better to have it loaded in /system/app. So it is. Yay.
Notification lights improved.
They're still not perfect but the battery LED flashes now for notifications. I personally preferred the 1.2.1 method of jogball for everything and LED for battery. Apparently you lot didn't.
The only bugs I've really noticed with it, is it'll often flash both the LED and the trackball as if it's just detected a nuclear attack. The other bug is if you boot with USB connected and then disconnect USB the LED turns red. This goes away at some point, but I can't remember if it's replugging the USB that makes it go away or a notification turns up while off power. But yeah, thems the breaks.
Man, is this guy eager on the new releases! FroydVillain 1.4.0 is now out, with yet another hilarious set of release notes :lmfao:
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=2099#p21217
Currently downloading the zip, but it looks like their servers are under heavy load, currently ETA in about two hours... From the release notes, it looks really promising though. The dev has amongst others done some Hero-specific modifications to the Dalvik engine, which should result in a notable speed increase.
Also looks as he is going to slow a bit down on the releases from now, which can be a good thing. Flashing new stuff is fun, but only to a limit
Not used a FroydVillain ROM before, but currently looking to upgrade. Do the gmail apps work on this ROM? Currently sitting on a Be_Hero 1.2 which is somewhat aged now and I like the sound of a custom DALVIK for the Hero.
Everything works :)
..and he already has a hotfix out for 1.4.0 lol
I think this is the smoothest ROM I've tried so far!
Someone point me in the direction of a good 'Idiot's guide to Installation' please!
Quote from: TeaLeaf;315284Someone point me in the direction of a good 'Idiot's guide to Installation' please!
Not sure I've seen a complete guide, but I'll try to give you the steps. You might wanna have Delan do a QA on what I say before proceeding though :flirty:
- Backup anything you want to bring with you to the new rom (Titanium Backup for apps and settings, SMS Backup & Restore for text messages, and anything else you might wanna keep).
- Make a nandroid backup of your old rom, just in case you wanna go back
- Copy all the above backups to your computer, just in case everything really gets messed up
- Everything you need can be downloaded from the FroydVillain 1.4.0 (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=2099) thread:
* FroydVillain-1.4.0-release (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/releases/FroydVillain1.4.0/download.php)
* Kernel 19-691 with bootanimation (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/releases/FroydVillain1.4.0/nindroid-v2.3-19-691-logo-release-signed.zip) (or another kernel, but this (or the one without boot animation) is the most common, I believe)
* FroydVillain 1.4.0-1.4.1 Hotfix (http://www.villainrom.co.uk/ota/froyd-140-141-release-signed.zip)
- Move all the three downloads to the root of your SD card
And now the fun begins
- A full wipe is required, meaning:
* data/factory reset
* dalvik cache (not really needed I've heard, as this is done by the install script, but it's so quick to do for yourself as well)
* ext
- If you don't already have an ext partition, you should make one (default values should do I believe, it's so long since I did it myself)
- Flash the FroydVillain-1.4.0-release
- Flash your selected kernel
- Flash the hotfix
And that should be about it. After you've booted you can then start restoring your apps, text messages etc. Also remember that it requires some reboots before the phone is completely up to speed.
Hope that was somewhat helpful :)
Yeah, that is basically it. I do the same; backup texts and apps, nandroid if desired, then wipe, flash, reboot :) Remember to backup data on sd-card if you need to partition it. When you get used to it, you can change ROM in 10 minutes or so.
Edit: I strongly recommend running the latest (1.6.2?) version of Amon RA.
Did not go as smoothly as my first upgrade to the Be_Hero, but that's mainly due to me not doing it right.
My first mistake was to unzip the contents and put the unzipped content onto the SSD. The boot loader looks for a zip package which I found out when I tried to flash. By then of course I had wiped the phone, so could mount the SSD via the phone to transfer the zip files, so a trip to PC World to get a flash card reader that would handle MicroSD (I have an adapter but I'm buggered if I know where it is!). So, zip files properly transfer, into the boot menu, flashed the ROM, then the kernel linked above, then the hotfix, then rebooted. That was 30 minutes ago and the nice white VillainROM screen is still there, but the previously 'spinning' loading icon is now static, so I am left wondering if it is still doing something or waiting for me to reboot. I'm going to leave it another 30 minutes, then reboot. Wish me luck!
Had to reboot the hard way & remove battery. Now I'm watching the spinning green loading icon again on the VillainROM startup screen, let's see how long it goes this time.
Second reboot and it's a charm. FroydVillain now running and gapps synching in the background. Now to reinstall my garbage.
Battle.net authenticator does not seem to work properly. Anyone else running this version of FV *and* the authenticator?
1.4.2 now out to fix a shopper problem. Updated via the VillainROM Updater package on the phone.
Quote from: TeaLeaf;315323Battle.net authenticator does not seem to work properly. Anyone else running this version of FV *and* the authenticator?
It works fine for me.
How did you restore it after flashing FroydVillain? I use Titanium Backup. If you instead only re-installed it, I'm not sure if that works. You'll either have to take a backup of the authenticator from your old rom -
or disable it before you wipe your old rom, then re-install from market on the new rom, and finally activating again (me thinks...).
The restore from Titanium was the bit I forgot! Sorted now, thanks Bob
1.4.3 out OTA!

If I a get what you did right... Whenever I am short a file on a reset phone, I go to Amon RA, enable USB-stick functionality and transfer the file. Perhaps that could save you the trip next time? :)
Never bothered updating Amon_RA, I have the image, no idea what to do with it so did not bother. It updated using 1.5.2?

ah okay. 1.6.2 and later have USB-stick functionality built into recovery, handy for stuff like that.
SO asking the obvious, how would you use the image to update it?

I'm still on 1.5.2, the option is there on mine, it's called 'USB-MS toggle'. Handy for when you forget to copy stuff. :)
Also I highly recommend installing the Galaxy theme and font as mentioned in the release thread, it looks very nice. :)

Amon RA 1.7 has just recently been released. You'll find the download (both the latest, and older versions if you'd like) together with necessary info to install on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 :)
1.4.4 out OTA. Fixes GPS-problems. Made mine more precise.
Also new kernels out, Nindroid 2.5s.

I prefer BlackMod, it has been revised to work with 1.4.x :)
