My fellow admins and fuhrer Tobius;
According to my observations we have only got one player who doesn't have OA. Whilst it's not ideal the step back from OA to Arma2 is huge and it feels like going back to a beta to me.
That said I'll still play both if required and I appreciate that I was a late adopter, but to keep the community dynamic we should look to adopt the new games and mothball the older ones before diluting our user base across multiple older games.
Your thoughts?
Arma 2 has been running for a while and we have a good base of regs, we're getting pubs every night and some stay, some don't. Whilst OA is picking the pubs we should step away from A2.
My personal though is that we should switch all dedicated ARMA nights (Tues / Sun) to OA and really push the publics (which we did on Arma2, we don't so much now.
Ad Hoc A2 games can be played, but we should mothball the server within 4 weeks.
Thoughts?
(Before anyone gets personal, this is not about the player(s) that don't have OA, this is about the best for the community and the volume of players to server ratio. OA attracts more players, A2 is now all but retired)
In case you're sniping at me, OA is in the post :flirty:
:)

Oh I don't think it's you he's referring to, and we all know Benny's crap at sniping:narnar:
I agree about the Beta feeling of ArmaII, I would rather play OA, but you know me, I'll play whatever is being played ATM:D
Edit: :poster_oops:Oops, didn't notice this was Arma admins thread, don't mind me:getmecoat:

I wasn't. You aren't regular enough to snipe at :)
There is only Sulks who plays regulalry who hasn't got it yet, and at Ã,£15 I'm not sure it's a solid enough reason to hold on the old server. That said I don't want to isolate A2 players and create any rifts. (there was even a suggestion of getting a collection for him!)
Realistically OA is what A2 should be, it's up to date, with Libs missions we have an endless playground and the scope is superb. We just need more players, which we are slowly getting. At some point we should approach Davel to get him in the forum and winged, but I'll leave that to Toby. This is Toby's game and it, of course, comes down to him, but we should at least discuss it.
(and me raising it means I get the flack so he can make a considered decision, and blame me if it goes wrong :) )
I even ordered it myself today.....
I'm not sure.
I like OA a lot and I suppose we don't have that big a player base to alienate people away. I'd like to see how a Combined Ops server would make the old maps play using the newer engine.
The differences in desert combat and the European arena means the type of mission you can build on each quite different.
We all love the HALO mission, don't we.
We could have a rule that if two members who don't have OA join us on ARMA night, we play A2 vanilla.
Then maybe leave it a little longer before pulling the plug on the A2 server and push them into getting OA.
Bloody hell a voice of reason! Quick kill it!
We did like the HALO yes...
(I don't understand Combined Ops :( )

Combined ops is what you get when you bought both games from the same media source, OA detects your installation of ARMA2 and allows you to use the maps and objects from it. Suddenly you get all the Chernarus and Utes maps and missions running under the OA engine.
It's also what meant I had to rewrite the objects on my test mission yesterday, I spawned Russian elements and the dedicated OA server couldn't find the modules.
If I may..... ;)
I knew that once we brought in OA we would most likely move in that direction and I think it is the right direction, but we have another 2 member to my knowledge on top of the one mentioned that does not have OA.
I think we should have at least 3 official nights a month of Arma 2 for the moment as we have people who are Supporting Members still wanting to play.
I think a more relaxed move to OA is needed overall and we will be doing so. I will keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. And see if we need to move quicker, but I want the Arma 2 server up while it is still in use and people want it.
I will be on tonight running a boot camp from 7:15 so if you want a chat about this I will be free on TS after that.

Blunt, you are more than welcome to chip in. Nice to get another GL point of view. :)
Roger Cap'n. Please pass my box, into which I will climb.

Before you get in to your box mate :). But seriously thanks for bring this up have been thinking about it and is good I know where you lot all stand.
I wouldn't be upset if we permanently moved onto OA, I prefer it over A2.
That said, we shouldn't leave people behind. If there's a significant number of people who can't/won't buy the expansion then we need to set aside at least one night to cater for them.
I'm sure in time everyone will invest in OA, especially if we keep blabbering on at them about how awesome it is.
I now have OA. Can someone please tell me if i need to patch it. I didn't see a post in the forum but I think Toby said I did.
Thanks
Yes Pen there is a patch.
I got steam version so I don't know where you could get it.
OB has a quicker dl link IIRC
HTH
Thanks I have found it and am patching to 1.54 with the "ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead Patch 1.50-1.52 to 1.54"
Thanks
