Title: Competitions - Where are we??
Post by: Gone_Away on September 09, 2010, 11:34:35 AM
Deagle - Yes - Map to be confirmed.

COD4 - ? we need confirmation that this will work over the LAN. Has this been tested yet?

ARMAII - Toby - Have you been able to sort a PvP map yet?

NFS Shift - What about a Time-trial challenge? We could put it up on the big screen for laughs?

LFD - Can we do a vanilla LFD1 Challenge??

LFS - Demo version Blackwood Circuit - Confirmed.

I'd like for us to announce these by the end of the weekend. Let me know what I can do to help.

I'll be roadtesting some Deagle Maps this w/e.

Just in from Lameduck..

By all means go with the demo version, XFG and XRG around Blackwood would be a good intro and fair racing FWD and RWD.
It will give people time to practice. Any day suits me, so just plonk it in the programme.

I've updated the first post..

Good work.

I think the games are right so it's really a case of sorting out COD4. I presume that the attendees will know why we're supporting COD4 over BC2 due to the Dedicated Server issues etc.

COD 4 has worked several times before but we need to try and solve the problem of 'some' people not seeing it.

Still no flight combat game sorted or decided. I think we could roll out a bit of airfix dogfighting for which the demo is free if people have a penchant for that.

I'll let you knock up the timetable and if it helps, here's the one from last time which can be used as a base

Timetable - Saturday
11:00 - 12:30 - CS:S Team KO
12:45 - 15:00 - CoD4 & lunch break
13:00 - 15:50 - Deagle
16:00 - 16:45 - dMr
17:00 - 18:30 - L4D

Also, with regards to prizes, same as last time please. We're not going to buy cans and give them to people but can take them to the bar and buy them a drink. If someone can please organise it then we'll reimburse them from the takings.

If I may, I think you should consider running some sort of large team-based competition first thing on the Saturday. This gets people in the mood playing together, slagging off other teams and helps with the camaraderie and setting the tone for the day. The Deagle comp may be a bit too small?

Just a thought and if you agree perhaps a CS:S comp. Given that numbers are down we could make it a lot smaller and therefore quicker.

Anyway I'll leave that one with you to mull over.

Hmm, I like yours  a lot there Ninja, though I must say, CS:S Team KO is always a big hit, and now that we dont'have a public server running no more,
I think a lot will happily play at the LAN.

Timetable - Saturday
11:00 - 13:30 - Deagle
14:30 - 15:45 - CoD4
16:00 - 17:00 - Left For Dead (original)
17:00 - 18:30 - CS:S Team KO
18:30 - 19:00 - Live for Speed Demo - Blackwood

All Weekend:
DogFighter
ARMAII OA
Deagle Server * 2
NfS Shift
Need for Speed Shift - Time Trial Challenge (winner is the one who has the fastest lap time during whole LAN?)

Ho Kay.. Let's dig up and dust off the CS:S Team KO.. Let's make it fun though! Perhaps we can run it on Rat Maps??

I agree with Pen that we should move it up a notch to the opener.. so....:

Timetable - Saturday
11:00 - 13:30 - CS:S Team KO
14:30 - 15:45 - CoD4
16:00 - 17:00 - Left For Dead (original)

Need for Speed Shift - Time Trial Challenge (winner is the one who has the fastest lap time during whole LAN?)

I had an idea on how we can make this fun.. what if we had a Time Trial Challenge on a PC with a Wheel / Pedals combo that everyone had to use in order to post up their time. In addition, we could have this on the big screen (ie: projector) for us all to laugh at the contestant... :)

Using a whiteboard or flip chart we could post up scores alla Top Gear and move people up and down the leaderboard.. Contest to close at 8pm on Saturday. Beer at the bar..

Nice idea over all but I would swap Cod an degale myself cause having the 2 whole room games at the beginning is a bit much if we have one in the morning and the afternoon,  we get to keep the whole team bragging rights all the way through the day if you see my meaning.

Loving the Projector Top gear style idea.

I'm sorry pen, missed your post before mine. Ofc its better to move the CS:S up, to get people fired up.
And maybe Tobi is right also, deagle is more fun then real focus, so if thats in between that breaks it a bit.

I love the projector idea too, its a great addition and its the fairest for all contendants, if there is to much animo for it, we might have to set a max nr of runs per hour or so. Just to give everyone a chance to play. (I know some are fanatic enough, including myself, who keep saying "1 more lap, 1 more lap, just one more lap..." :P

Swap.. Agreed.

Oldie, is it possible to run the time-trials off the server? I can use my wheel / pedals..

@Lumi - folks should be practicing on their own machines first..

'Fraid not. Servers have very basic gfx cards.
