Title: Hello!
Post by: zaidtherion on September 14, 2010, 10:26:38 PM
Hi! My real name is Dharma, and my usernames are usually some variation on zaid (pronounced zayd or zy-id, whichever you prefer) or Sandman. I play CoD4, BC2, TF2, and L4D/2, with some CSS, Race Driver GRID, Trackmania, and Borderlands on the side. I'm above average (consistently top 5 in the local LAN group, which translates to terrible compared to everyone online).

In real life, I'm a bioengineering student at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City (No, I'm not Mormon). I was reading an after action report on Rock Paper Shotgun about an ArmA II game and was thinking to myself Man, this game seems awesome, but from what I've heard organizing a game like this is near impossible, and I'm not sure if I want to spend the money... Then I saw a link to DMW in the comments. It seems like you're all pretty chill. I figured I might as well play a few games with you guys and see if I can justify an ArmA II purchase :)

Welcome to the forums :)

We usually play Arma II on Tuesday & Sunday nights (things usually get busy from 8pm UK time). You can find the server IP and TeamSpeak details here (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?3363-Server-Password).

If you need a hand getting started, just grab an admin on Steam - we'll be happy to help.

After a few IRL friends talked me into it I bought ArmAII and OA. Looks like the timing works out great- 8pm London time is 1pm Mountain time, which is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon (nothing interesting ever happens on Sunday in Salt Lake, obviously ;) )

I've read through dslyexic's ArmaII guide and played through all the infantry-related tutorials. Any maps/mods I need to download, or is just having OA installed good enough?

We don't run any extra mods other than OA, and the custom maps we play are downloaded automatically when you connect to the server.

You just need to make sure you have it patched up to the latest version (1.54 is the latest, if you bought it on Steam it should update itself automatically).

Welcome home Dharma, all your gaming needs under one roof! If you're looking for a strict regime, orders and huge tactical games.....then err.....wrong place :) If you're looking for good fun, light hearted chilled out gaming, where we try and play the games right, then bang on.

Looking at what you play, seems like you've found the right place :)
