Title: What two games would you take....
Post by: Naldo on October 17, 2010, 07:17:21 PM
Need some help here guys as the only games I have atm are FPS.

Q. If you were stuck in the middle of the desert with no internet connection for four month, what two games would you take with you to pass the time?

Must be able to run on a laptop with the following specs

I7-620m  6gig ram and a Geforce 330m.

Thanks for the help.

Probably one of the Football Manager or older Championship Manager games, you could easily still be playing the same game 4 months later. Most single player games will get old fast as you just play the same game over & over again.

Civ 4, with expansions, and if there was time a few mods downloaded ready.... might end up needing more time tho

Football/Championship Manager is a great shout.

Civilization III gets my vote.

things like GTA can take up a lot of time (and the L4D campaigns aren't too bad in single player)

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 + expensions and a racing game, NFS shift or NFS Underground 1

(in case I can't bring a shogi board + pieces then I'd probably let NFS go bye and get a shogi game ;D )

Plants vs Zombies, Defence Grid: The Awakening, Dirt 2, F1 2010 (These are all games that I've put a decent chunk of time into that don't need internet)

Civ IV is an excellent suggestion.

Out of these I'd pick Civ IV and Dirt 2 I think if I were limited to just 2, but all are worth checking out (Dirt 2 needs a 360 controller and USB receiver to make the most of it).

Baldurs Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal expansion
Monopoly 2008 Portable

BG2 alone will probably take you around a year; if you play every class, romance different companions, complete every quest, whilst playing the game with different sets of companions and passing the game whilst taking different ethical/alignment paths/choices via multiple plays.  Double that if you want to try both genders.

You can also install a crazy amount of mods which add extra content.

Also, once you are rescued from the desert; you can export your character and play the game co-op with a max of 5 more players via gamespy.  And this is a game from 10 years ago...

Best rpg game of all time imho.

Some quotes I found on BG2:

"Playing it again in 2010, after playing Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age. No Comparison, BG2 is the best RPG ever... so freakin' big!"

"BG2 is the best RPG I've played, epic tour de force. Bioware's crowning achievement. Romance, humor, puzzles, great dialogue, character development... The art and music are so rich. Great multiplayer too - shopping together, unleashing ancient demon oopsies, it's all there!"

"Still occasionally play it now - Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes! A better game there has never been. Hundreds of hours playing with multiple characters, completing the BG trilogy and hours experimenting with the many mods and expansions from Sorcerers place, Weidu and Gibberlings3. The best RGP, the holy trinity and bench mark on which all others are based. The Tolkein of the gaming world and the best string of quotes. I cannot be caged! I cannot be controlled! Understand this as you die, ever pathetic, ever fools."

I'll stop there - I think you get the picture.  Have to install it again, got myself all hyped up.

Why only two games? space?

Champ Man 01/02 http://champman0102.co.uk/forum/downloads.php?
The game is free and there is a patch for this season too, or you can play back in the day and get Ronaldo, Rooney and Drogba for about 2p.

You could also install a snes and amiga emulator and download tons of games to keep you entertained. - Another World, Flashback, f-Zero, Escape from colditz, street fighter 2 etc etc

World of Goo.
Abe's Oddessy

Or some point and clicks
Grim Fandango
Broken Sword 1,2,3
Monkey islands
Sam and Max
Bladerunner
