With one week to go and no sight of a LAN-enabled server for 1.6 it's time to admit that we will have to play CS 1.5 at the LAN.
This means a bit of work for all those (like me) that let Steam remove their old HL/CS when it installed CS1.6.
To get CS 1.5 to work you will need to:
1. Re-install Half-Life (see note below).
2. Patch HL to v1.1.1.0 (86Mb file)
3. Install CS 1.5 (127Mb file)
4. Add any custom maps.
All these files are available on many websites including Fileplanet. They can also be found on magazine mounted discs. They will be available at the LAN but I strongly suggest that everyone gets their CS1.5 sorted before hand.
Note: If you can re-install HL to it's old path (e.g. d:\halflife ) then you will not have to re-enter your HL key).
omfg.... start again?!?!?! are you kidding me? after all that steam put us through now it wants us to start again?!?!?!?!?
how about if we had a gateway server and a mobile phone just to carry starting up traffic?
I'm sure if someone has a GPRS phone on a £X per MByte of traffic it will not be too expensive, esp is we split the cost.... will prob only be £1 each.
Its worth £10 to prevent me from having to install HL again!!!!

The question arises if the server and/or client needs to be in constant contact with Steam ... then it will be expensive. <_<
well, if you have a working HL/CS install, just copy that folder to someones comp that isn't working. You'll just have to re-bind the keys and change names then.
messy, but it does work.

Anywhere other than where you've got Steam
installed.
Glad I kept mine installed then, not that I didn't trust steam at all oh no nothing like that!!
