Okay, the 9mm round definately has teeth marks in it today.
The old rig has definitely had it's usage and is still strongish, but pretty much every component in it is no longer upgradable or is bottlenecked by something else.
So, I just committed some spending to the old plastic debt collector.
Antec 900 case
Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3 (AM3)
Phenom II x6 1055T *OEM* (95W)
Akasa Venom AM3 cooler
2x2gb G-SKILL 8-8-8-24 DDR3 (good reviews and ASUS approved)
2x1tb Samsung F3's
1x60gb SSD, G-Skill Phoenix Pro (285mbs-r/275mbs-w) SF-1200
Sapphire HD6870 1gb
Already have a relatively new 800w Crossfire ready PSU in the current rig, so it's musical chairs for the PSU's or buy a cheap replacement for the old girl. DVD will be moving across because I have no requirement for a Blu-ray yet.
So, what have I got wrong, if anything.
I'd plump for Intel over AMD at the moment, but if that's limited by your current motherboard then so be it - looks a good rig to me.
Don't know why, but I prefer AMD and the Phenom II's x6's seem to be a little better for the money at the moment and for once only have the one socket architecture for their current crop.
So as usual, going for a top of the range mobo and relatively low end CPU with room to expand.
Well, the SSD, mounting bracket, HD6870 and RAM have arrived.
Now I just need the case, mobo, CPU, F3 drives and CPU cooler.
AMD have dropped the ATI chip branding now, so the 6800's have no ATI branding.
Out of interest lib can you post up what you did have?
Thanks,
AMD 939 3800+ Athlon X2 64
2GB DDR
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium v1.0
ATI HD2900 Pro (cheap slightly faster replacement after XFX 7800GTX died straight after a CoD4 match one new years)
Samsung Ecogreen F1 1TB
Relatively capable of most games up until BC2 and Arma.
etc..etc...
