just seen a link on the new posts page and i have for a few days noticed vCBm posts (whatever they are) so i click on them, because some of them are announcements and it says i haven't permissions to read this post. thing is some of the replies listed in new posts are by other normal members ... are my permissions just fecked? or is it messages between members that should not be showing on the whats new section?
heres one of the posts i don't have permissions for
http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?32237-Dogfighter (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?32237-Dogfighter)
any ideas?
No idea atm sorry but I'm sure the Trinity of Whitey/Smilo/Gandypedia will be along shortly with an answer.
sorry!
i think its something to do with the stuff on the homepage, as oldie has posted a new blog type thing and it looks like ranger answered, it seems that when you hit what's new and this comes up the links are broken... you have to do it via the main screen. that's my theory anyhow
there was a bit of a problem with permissions so I was led to believe. I can see it now but couldn't a couple of days ago
Try it now. I'm trying to get it so that everyone can read the home page content regardless of whether they have registered with the site or not but only supporting members can create and post their own blog entries (another perk of paying the donation) And if I though the forum permissions were an unintuitive nightmare they have nothing on this
still coming up with the you dont have permission page, but as stated earlier it seems to be posts on the homepage, like oldies new dogfighter page, that appear in the whats new section but links dont give you access, on the hompage though it works fine.
Aye we're working on permissions at the moment. Oldie's post was a forum post which was promoted to Article and the changes I made to article permissions seemed to work for some (like Blunt) but apparently not all. Further work needed.
I presume you have the same problems with the blogs which show up on the front page?
Regarding blogs checked through the permissions and added every group except banned users to the 'can see' and allowed supporting members to 'can create'. However that doesn't really have much to do with peoples ability to actually see the posts.
Am I right in thinking that all is well with posts but as soon as a post is promoted to an article then some forum members loose the ability to see the post in the forum but can still see it on the front page as an article?
That appears to have happened, but the changes I made seemed to kick Blunt into the 'can see' group but not others.

When my experience happened, I could see the forum post but when I clicked on OB's link to the article I was refused.
As TL said, all is well for me now:)

Looks like you did what I did Smilo, so there should not have been much to change?
Done a bit of digging on this one and it might be that the permissions issue we are seeing on the CMS articles is related to a recent upgrade to the forum software which 'broke' some of the CMS permissions whilst trying to deliver a requested feature addition. The inadvertent bug will not be fixed until we do the next upgrade of the forum software, however we had already scheduled to try to complete this upgrade at the weekend, so with a bit of luck the problem will go away after that. Fingers crossed.
thanks for the digging, just to let you know its still mullered for me. i hang till the update then i revisit this post and try again
