This post was lost with the rollback, so here it is again, but this time a little better defined.
With the aim of making LAN XX a special one, how about we boost LAN XX by holding a DMR Meet alongside?
- There's enough hotel capacity in March (Cromwell, Ye Olde Griffin, Station Hotel, Anchor Inn) to cater for more than the Cromwell can host and LAN attendees would get priority on the Cromwell rooms.
- We could organise some activities for the DMR Meet people to fill their days, but make the base the Cromwell for meals, and/or other activities.
- We'd need to do a bit of research on activities locally, but I'm pretty sure we could arrange some nice (and silly) stuff that would be fun and fill the time well.
The idea would not be to detract from LAN XX, but to tie into some of the possible activities planned for LAN XX (depending on what they are), and to supplement the social numbers for the non-gaming elements. The capacity is there in the hotel and it could be quite good fun I reckon.
If we plan to do this then we should plan it and announce it quickly as DMR has more people abroad than in the UK and the international flights are cheapest right now as we're still well in advance.
Thoughts please?
Archery, billiard (pool), bowling, mini golf or whatever?
The Cromwell golf cup - sounds catchy.
Sheepy is one hell of a snooker player, and a good number of you lads play golf online.
Or we just try to clear the entire Cata content in 1 weekend :P

I think it's a grand idea. I don't see it as getting in the way of the rest of the festivities. In fact, I see it as enhancing the LAN altogether.. :)

The DMR guild meet has been posted to the DMR section and bookings are being made within that section. We'll set up access for DMR officers to see this section so that the planning is inclusive.
- Capacity in March (Cromwell, Ye Olde Griffin, Station Hotel, Anchor Inn) - the OC has 50 rooms (42 doubles and 8 singles) and we should exceed this. I agreed with Rob (manager @ OC) that he would handle overspill bookings with local hotels on our behalf, this should get us more beneficial terms than we might for one-off bookings.
- Activities - Rob will send me details of things to do in the area. He has mentioned paint-balling, karting, both of which are available within 30 minutes of the OC. Rob has also offered to provide (& drive) a 15 seater minibus to get people to and from the event. Surplus numbers could be picked up by us hiring an additional minibus or using personal cars/hire transport. This needs further discussion and planning once numbers are known.
