Anyone else given this a spin?
I've found it to be a pretty rock hard RTS, but love having the ability to control an individual solider to the point where I can swap his hat for the helmet of a german soilder if desired.
My best moment with game so far, is having a flank start to crumble under pressure from a tank and a large group of germany infantry. HE shells were battering my position and allowing the enemy infantry to cross an open field while my squads hid, cowered, and bleed respectively. Except for one soilder left behind enemy lines.
This one brave soul dashed out of his bush clutching his one and only weapon, an anti-tank grenade! One messy explosion later and this incarnation of rambo is pulling off the tanks slightly sooty heavy machine gun and opening up on the backs of the german force giving me time to bring up a sherman.
Love it.

Don't have this one yet. However, i do have Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, Faces of War and Men of War.
I and my boys have played Soldiers & Faces right the way through & multiplayer and enjoyed them both very much. As you say, having control right down to a single soldier and his kit is great.
I started Men of War but really haven't played it much at all and no multiplayer. But now you have started me thinking about them again i just may have to dust them off!
Have you played any of these or is Assault Squad your first?
