Title: Hard drive Problem
Post by: Benny on October 22, 2003, 11:08:46 AM
Ok, 2 days till the LAN and I think my hard drive is screwy.

Takes four or five boots in the morning to get it going, freezes anywhere from detecting (rarely), starting windows 2000 (ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt usually), to a blus screen at boot.

Once up and going though I can reboot to my hearts content. Now do I...

1) Ignore it for a while until it's completely terminal
2) Reinstall over the top (done once as upgrade and it didn't work)
3) Install second boot on second drive, copy directorys across, swap master and slave and away, if so, which directories? or can I just copy the whole of C: onto D: say and swap master and slave jumpers?

if you have a spare drive, bring it to the lan as I have driveimage 2002

I've successfully copied my dying C drive (60GB) to a new 120GB SATA drive.

I then just removed the dying drive, powered on and all was well :) Win XP didn't know any different.

You can do the same with Norton Ghost 2003.  :D

I wouldn't trust Norton with a speak and spell!
