Ok, I might not get the joke at hand or anything, but if I understood correctly, we talked about a spontanous, planned CSS-night(s).

I just wanted to check a little feedback here in the 'backroom' with all you mighty admins and world leaders.

So, what do you say? Are we up for some old CSS fun for old times sake?

Ready? Set! VOTE!

I'd like it, no airstrikes, remote controled cars and such that blow up in your face.

Something monthly maybe but I really can't see a weekly turnout.

I've not posted in this thread deliberately until now to allow opinion to be posted up, but I reckon there's enough there to add my own now.

CSS is a dead game - let's not argue this point, we shut our CS servers as nobody ever used them.

CS has a huge chunk of nostalgia attached to it in this community and when we think about a CS night for 'old time's sake' we remember &  wish for the unbelievable levels of fun that we had when the game was fresh and there was little alternative online gaming.  I was one of those 'hooked' players; I'd happily spend 4 hours a night on the CS servers and love every second of it.  However, my own experience today is that when I get onto a CS server my window of interest lasts about 30 minutes maximum.  After that I am grow weary of the game and want to leave at the end of the map.

At the LAN we had a CS server up.  The Deagle Competition was a blast and there was a small amount of CS going on, but it was short-lived and people ended up going off to other games and not staying with CS.

You also need to remember that to put a server up someone needs to install it, configure it and then run it.  Whilst I am sure it would not take too long to knock one up, it's a lot of work for someone (probably Whitey) if people only stay on for 30 minutes.

By all means plan an event of some kind, but it is probably more likely to see success if it is a one off, rather than a monthly event imo.  I just do not believe the interest is there to pull people away from other games everything month on an ongoing basis - that's why we shut our CS servers down as there was no interest in a regular CS night.

So what am I saying?  The game is nostalgic and we remember it fondly, but I suspect we remember it more fondly than we actually like it when we play it.

Plan an event by all means and we can allocate an existing GL to publicise, organise and manage it and ask a Server Admin to install a CS server, admin files and configure it for use.   I'm just not convinced that CS has legs for more than a one-off.  Even the one-night plan will still need to find a comfortable slot within a normal week's schedule so will need some thought.

This was just a one-night only thing, and if it catched on we could try to add another game or two. I have never suggested to get this going on a regular basis, it was just one or two irregular nights we just did it for old times sake. We can use the CSS server, as Whitey was kind enough to use his own time to do so. (hats off Whitey, thank you so much.)

As I said, its just a one-time event, and I never intended it to be on a regular basis. I do not think anyone else who talked about it thought that either.

Sorry, SJ, in this case GM made the 'regular' comment in this thread and my response was to the entire thread, not specifically allocated to you!
