Title: Needed Volunteers
Post by: BrotherTobious on May 04, 2011, 11:06:36 AM
Gents I am need a few people to help trial a plugin for TS3 and Arma 2 OA on this Thursday night.

Logik will be adding user guide how to install, but this is what we are going to have a go with.

ACRE (http://dev-heaven.net/projects/a2ts3/wiki)

So if you are around it would be great if you could get this installed and be on the Passworded server.

I do warn you it will be a little standing around at first to figure it out but after that we should get some attacking done.

Sorry gents real late back from work just ate my tea and its 2120 already, tinkered with acre till 1130 hrs the night before and my PC is suffering from a bad api and will not run acre at the moment manually, there is however an easy peasy executable which includes all the things you need in one double click windows way, sadly my old version of XP is not modern enough to run the installer and so far far ive not got acre to run, if someone with a more recent version could test this for me id buy them a pint.
I will also put up a thread entitled "why you need the acre MOD" explaining its virtues and how we have come to get to this stage/situation, PS if acre doesnt work we will test something very similar in the near future.

Lovingly stolen from Benny

Ok, so you get the file from here;
http://tracker.idi-systems.com/projects/acre/files (http://tracker.idi-systems.com/projects/acre/files)

Do this;
Make sure TS3 and ArmA2 are not running
2. Copy the contents of the ArmA2 directory into the root of your ArmA2 directory.
. The ArmA2 root directory should now contain @ACRE, @JayArmA2Lib, and dsound.dll
3. Copy the appropriate 32-bit or 64-bit ACRE DLL file into your Teamspeak 3 Client\plugins directory
4. Within TeamSpeak 3, click Settings -> Plugins, and make sure ACRE is checked.
5. Restart TeamSpeak 3
6. Change your ArmA2 shortcut so the mod line contains at least: @cba;@JayArmA2Lib;@ACRE

pray.

Stop praying. Install this;
http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cca/files (http://dev-heaven.net/projects/cca/files)
straightforward install guide included in the file, differs for CO, standalone and steam.

Pray more.

See you tomorrow.

I'll do this install this afternoon. One thing I'm not clear on is whether the .exe file will install into a Steam version of Arma2:OA? I've not watched the videos yet so it might clarify there. Anyone used the .exe to install a Steam version?

Update. I only got as far as installing the Teamspeak .dll files

When installed, the Teamspeak 3 .dll files appear in the plugin's box as red and the error message says the API is not compatible. I've reinstalled the latest beta of Teamspeak but it makes no difference. Will see what happens when I install the main ACRE files.

Only download addons with bis keys on our server and everyone else,s or you will get kicked automatically, this will be the cba file [community base addons] its the only one not in the acre files [when using manual install] which are all signed, http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12157 (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12157) this one is signed.
I still cannot recommend installing acre at this moment in time as i think versions of acre and tspk need to match did anyone find a complete acre/tspk all in one pack?

I can confirm the auto updater built into tspk updates it to a version incompatible with acre, heres something i found "You need to downgrade your TS Client back down to pre-11 (as you must have selected the 'yes' to the auto-update message.

I did exactly that and ACRE wouldn't work (the version we are using isn't compatible with our version of ACRE 1.2.6.xxx

If you grab the ACRE ZIP file from the 16AA Addonsync and reinstall the TS client contained within the zip it'll install the pre-11 version.

I did this - Uninstalled the latest TS3 client (kept a backup of the 'config' folder within the TS folder, as thats where your bookmarks and whatnot are kept), and then manually unzipped the TS 3 client from the ZIP file from Addonsync (selecting x64 as thats my OS)."

Personally after 2 hours of playing with this I am not sure it is worth it.   It seems the latest version you have to dl a older version of TS 3.

Anyone else got any input?

I failed to get it to work and then failed to get home in time to try it out, even though it wouldn't work. I can see the appeal of this if we were hitting the server thirty strong with squads and fire teams and officers etc. But we're basically a single platoon at best with a single officer commanding all of us. So i wonder why we would have more than a single comms channel?

It's not well explained but the blurb seems to suggest that if you're close to another player you will speak to them directly rather than across a radio transmission. if this is true i like the distinction between radio comm's and direct speech. it would add more realism. I could be speaking directly to my team mate as we fight through a town but then radio back to team members on the hill to direct RPG or sniper fire.

Sadly other than that I don't see the need for advanced comm's when there are only five or six of us on the server at a time. It's a superb mod in concept and if it was a simple install that worked out of the box it might be worth the effort but I nearly blew up my Arma 2 install trying to get it to work this afternoon. Yes I'm a bit thick but it's still to much work for too little reward IMHO.

It's screwed my install completely. Game not available. Brilliant.
