Hmmm, deliberately a couple of days before BF3. I know which I'll be buying. After the last 2 games in the CoD series spending more money on what will ultimately be a over priced and under performing.

Ooooo rather excited :) , they must have learnt their lesson from BO surely..........
Quotethey must have learnt their lesson from BO surely..........
The lesson being, that they can put out a half-finished game and still make a mountain of cash? Yea, I wouldn't get your hopes up there.
To avoid getting burned again, I'll probably wait
at least a month until after release before buying. Just enough time hopefully for them to sort out the inevitable game-breaking bugs.
That, of course, is if it's any good. This is not the same Infinity Ward that produced MW2. Pretty much the entire studio has been sacked/left after they had a massive bust-up with Activision.
Oh, and just for extra giggles, the
entire plot including spoilers has been leaked online. Spoiler free details here.

Agreed with tut, this game has to be the 2nd coming of a game to even spark my interest after the last 2.
I won´t be buying the next COD game.
i just don´t like Activision´s business model were they aim to release a new game in the series every year. only patching it a cuple of times and releasing two map packs that costs 10$ or more.
I´ll just say. Hello BF3!
Gameplay trailer released.

As always the singleplayer will be worth a go.
Strictly a "Steam Sale" purchase. Modern Warfare 1 was the last good single-player game in the series. The monochrome multiplayer just wasn't that good.
Modern Warfare 2 was a console title with a poorly ported PC version with no dedicated server support. Black Ops is even more consolised. No thanks. I'll have a poke at the SP when I can buy it on Steam for £6 or less.

MW2 is shocking. I don't see how Black Ops is any more consolised. There are dedicated servers and lean is back. I'm not saying it is in any way better than CoD 4, but was a step back in the right direction from MW2. The fact they still try pushing the horrendously expensive map packs is a different issue.
I don't plan on getting MW3 at first even if it gets good reviews, the business model of not allowing custom maps and then occasionally selling small numbers of bad maps for an outrageous price has started to really annoy me. I've nearly 300 steam games, a good chunk of disposable income goes on them. I could easily afford the game and the map pack, but releasing a full priced game after deliberately stripping out features and then trying to sell them back to you is a model I don't want to support. If they want to strip out features then take away the single player part, if you're only going to have 4 hours of mediocre game play and have to pay voice actors, story writers etc etc don't bother, stick 4-5 extra maps in instead.

Agreed. The title would benefit from being one game and not being a poor substitute for two. Go back to a single-player game like Call of Duty 2, or multi-player
only and give it more depth and pace.
These aren't Facebook games and they certainly don't charge "casual game" prices, but they expect us to lap up COD:SIMS3 like we should owe them something.
Also, with absurd costs in mind, don't voice these games with Hollywood A-list stars, Brian from accounts will work just as well.

I beg to differ. Portal 2 benefited
hugely from having A-list voice actors. The problem with the COD/MW single-player is that the writing just isn't up to scratch, and they haven't moved the core gameplay on from where it was in 2003.
They're like Michael Bay movies, ridiculously stupid but not bad if you've got a couple of hours to kill.
Vote with your wallets, I won't be buying MW3 unless I see evidence that it's not just a clone of all their previous titles.
There are a lot of very decent jobbing voice actors out there who can do the word science for a game without breaking the bank. Think Mafia II and even Bad Company, which while not a particularly stunning single player game was perfectly decent in the way it created and dealt with the four main protagonists. Game publishers are simply trying to boost the profits. The existing model has always been a game costs £29.99 whether it's a simple low budget affair or a multi million dollar behemoth. the big expensive game makes it's money as it sells far more copies than the little indie game. much like the way cinema tickets and books are priced. One standard price regardless of cost of content. Sadly it now seems that model is going away in favour of a 'sell it for as much as we can' policy.
I still won't buy Black Ops for £39.99. So unless the single player game is a solid well made game, in the mould of the original Cod:MW I'll steer well clear. Vote with your wallet. If you pay the high prices the won't go away that's for sure.

Yup, I'm not saying that there's no place for a single player game with voice acting and story lines, I'm just saying it's a waste of time in a CoD game because it is essentially an online only game. I spend 4 hours completing the single player, usually get thoroughly disappointed at what they pass off as a story line, and then never play it again, whereas online play I can play that in a night so having enough maps to keep things interesting, or letting a player use custom maps makes a HUGE difference to a game (Think how long CS:S was going on our server 2004-2009?, and compare that to CoD 4 2008-2009/10?). I've got many games that are single player only, but generally speaking they are of a much higher quality than CoD.
As for why CoD:BO it is now back down to £20 on Amazon (Far more sensible). I don't know why it shot up to £40 again fairly recently, it's very much on the high side.
IMO MW2 Was pretty groundbreaking up-to date modern warfare shooter when it came out never too botherd about single player but multiplayer is what i go for, Also dont forget the people who made MW2 and COD:WAW(The best cod imo) are making this MW3 Looks decent but i wont be conned into spending £40/50 on the game , not being able to play a multiplayer game on first week of release becuase servers are too full/crashed becuase of the sheer ammount of people wanting a game. Then brining out new maps and charging you more money.
What happened to a game being released -> Patched if it had bugs and free maps? (bf2 gave you that with special forces and euro forces free instead of £5/10 as an expansion pack). But I guess the makers of COD Like making money.
I'd much rather play BF3 although saying that it does look quite good (MW3) May get it used/new when the price/hype comes off it
Actually infinity ward the developer who made mw2 and cod4 are doing this one and a new studio is responsible for the multiplayer part. Cod:waw came from the BO dev.
And i don't think IW are the same any more since the "problem" they had last year.
It isent the developer that is crazy for money it's just they way Activision works. It wouldent suprise me if they would charge you a monthly fee to play cod. Maby not in this game but for the cod in 2012!
Well here we go ready to get screwed boys and girls, because of them that dont know better it will probably become the norm. You may think I am over reacting but the just jumps down the slippery sloap sing "I am in the money" all the way down
MW E monthly Subs (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-31-call-of-duty-elite-adds-monthly-sub)
This is a deal breaker for me based on the last 3 games
GAME OVER
:getmecoat:
Subscription based FPS? The XBOX crowd can have it. Boycott this game on the PC. There is NO WAY I'm paying full price for (based of previous experience) what will be a half-complete, buggy game, THEN be expected to pay out for fixes and DLC to complete what should have been original content at release, THEN be expected to subscribe to keep playing online or face exclusion.
"The Elite"? I bet that's not what Activision are calling them in-house; "Mugs", "Cash-cows", "Gulible fools" and "Saps" more likely..
"Activision was at pains to stress that Elite does not force players to pay to play online" - but how many servers will run the downloadable content maps on there aswell (which you will proberly have to pay for ) Sod that. I dont understand the point of it, they can get away with it on consoles not pc's battlefield 3 it is:P
Elite doesn't look like it's going to be able to be forced upon users. It's essentially a website, NOT content according to that video. I won't be signing up to it though. The way they will catch you is if the rest of the people you play with are on there then you'll have to play if you want to join their clan etc. Peer pressure. Also some people will just get it because they've money to burn buying terrible products. I doubt I'd use it if it was free to be honest.
Here's a link (http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-61311/1333686) to some Modern Warfare 3 single-player and multiplayer footage.
Simon Pegg is one of the players. Which is nice.
Looking at the game, I wonder if they've gone for a retro "just like Medal of Honour Allied Assault" look and feel. Yes, it has state-of-the-art 2002 graphics. Bonza!
Does look quite console like, especially the zooming about on a boat.
http://www.callofduty.com/elite for beta testing they said it comes out november 8th they've missed a trick everyone will be playing bf3 :P although co-op (spec ops) does look like fun
