Seeing your dps in raids, I feel tempted to pick up my huntard, which I already leveled to 85 and see what I can do with it.. Gearing up and DPSing up.

Id recommend going survival for normals / heroics / 10 mans :) This is the build i would use :)

http://www.wowhead.com/talent#ccZf0MZcbhfMhrRsk:Rsmf0VM0c

Carefull aim isnt really needed for 5 man's because mobs get under 80% really quick.. but its still a nice dps boost when you use rapid fire / cooldowns at the start.

As for macro's i only use one tbh :P

/target whitey
/cast misdirection
/w whitney MD on you!
/assist

I like that macro :D

I've noticed a nice improvement in dps on heroics since changing from MM to SV and would recommend it to any other new hunters.

Article (http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com/2011/06/state-of-hunter-dps/) about the current state of DPS for raiding hunters. The author Frostheim is recognized enough to get this (http://www.wowhead.com/item=69584). So reading his columns is advised.

MM will get a nerf in 4.2, but not a big one. SV will get buffed a bit. As hardcore SV hunter, who never played MM, I would say: GO SV! Looking at the numbers, MM is currently the way to go if you do not have important AoE assigments.

@legolei

most sites ( stateofdps / worldoflogs ) prove that MM is the beter spec atm.
But i been in a few 10 man guilds so far and i been beating all the MM hunters by alot.. on all fights so far.
I think it has to do with the imobility of the MM spec, seeing hardcasting AiM is still the way to go.
And MM is really really gear / buff dependend so in 10 man ( without all buffs.. and mostly your lacking some gear do to RNG dropchance ) i personaly would say stick with Surv.

Also surv is alot more " user " friendly :P if you do the rotation wrong or you mis a tick of ES your dps wont drop like a brick.. if dont finish casts with AiM or you forget to do a chimera shot your dps ( and your serpent dot ) will drop.

Surv for life! :P

Hai! So up until tuesday I was MM spec, but then I changed to survival. I like it, just need to get used to it. I sometimes forget stuff which results in dps loss.. Like hunters mark (with MM it was automaticly applied with CS or AS because of the 'Marked for Death' talent), I forget this the most. What I also sometimes forget is serpent sting.. Like after changing targets to go for adds, getting back to the boss & forget to cast it straight away since it wore off.. This happens less & less now though.

For stats, atm I go for agi>hit cap 8%>haste 20%>crit>mastery>haste over 20%. But some others say it's Agility > Hitcap > Critical Strike Rating > Haste > Mastery. I'm still not sure what to go for.. should read some more about it or just test it out. Reforging is free so.. :D

So any thoughts, tips or even useful addons for hunters... always welcome!

cheers

Finally a hunter to talk to again :) Hello!

Anyway, the stats:

Agil ( fill all slots with 40 agil except when the bonus is +20 agil or more. )
Hit to 8%
Haste to 750ish ( cobra shot to 1.66 seconds )
Crit
Mastery
Haste

Alot of people are saying that switching the last 2 does not matter and the dmg is about the same but in my mind that just does not make sense, mastery buffs every shot except autoshot, haste buffs nothing but your autoshot & cobra shot ( hunters dont get more dot ticks due to more haste. )

I dont use many addons but the one thing i cant live without is Hunter Focus bar, it lets you create a focus bar anywhere on your screen and put your debuff / buffs around it.
On that one theres a warning if you forgot your hunters mark as well so when its not on your target it shows it on the middle of the screen with a big picture of the huntersmark icon.

For the serpent sting thing you had i cant really help you :P what i always do is at the start of a fight is: MD to tank, Huntersmark, Prepot, ( here fight starts ) Explosiveshot - Serpent sting - Black arrow - Cobrashot - Cobrashot - Expslive shot - Arcaneshot ( this will have a 20% chance or someting to get your 4 piece t13 buff going ) - etc.
This way i always know a serpent sting is on the target, when im switching targets i always start of with a serpent sting anyway, maybe someting you could do :).

I know there is a addon to track your debuff as well, but havent used it yet.

It's practically every class that has a dot or other effect that needs to be up whenever possible that has this problem. I use WeakAura's to show a Texture on my screen when the dot or spell is not up on the target, as a reminder for me to put it on. On my hunter I have this for Serpent and Mark, as well as for Aspect of the Hawk. WeakAura's is great for monitoring this, as well as a lot of other things :-) And yes, I will promote it every chance I get!

can set it up with dot spells,cd's etc and its quite small yet big enough to notice...and obvioulsy you can make it bigger etc....just my 2cents :)

Tnx for the replies :D the NeedToKnow addon is really nice, it already helped me couple times reminding me to apply certain spells :). It's also nice to show when a trinket, or some other item with a certain ability, is about to proc (if you know what the internal global cooldown is). Here's a vid that shows it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6IDQ99y92I

I think the NTK addon is good enough for now, WeakAura seems also nice though. And I already had a similar hunterfocus bar addon :)

That's the one I use for my toons to handle my DOT tracking.   The only thing it does not do is track multiple target - for multiple target tracking I use Forte Xorcist.   You can see both in the RGT videos I uploaded to the dMw Youtube channel.

I use WeakAuras too, but not for DOT tracking, just for specific encounter buff tracking or self-buff tracking.
