Title: Steam Updates
Post by: OldBloke on October 29, 2003, 09:15:31 AM
QuoteOriginally posted by Steam
A Steam update has just been released. It is a fixed version of last week's update, so the list of what's included is the same:
Added support for "trickle update", which will allow updates to games to be delivered over time before they are activated.
Optimizations in Steam targeted at reducing CPU and memory load on some systems.
Progress dialog always shows now during startup.
Fixed handling of cache fingerprint mismatch on reconnect
Fixed case which would cause the preloader ignoring errors to send extra messages to the Steam servers.
Fixed bug in Steam that would cause cache to be validated too often when Steam started. This would cause hard drive thrashing.
Fixed a potential lockup case and access violation case in Steam.
We've also added support for ATI bundle product keys. So it is now possible for purchasers of new ATI video cards to use their product keys for subscriptions to the Valve Premier Pack. (Half-Life 2 will be added to the subscription when it comes out.)

I'd guess at the update being about 3-4MB in size.  Download NOW!

I still have the same problems, when is there going to be patch to solve mine. I asked Steam allready several times, still no respond.  :( I still can't type when I'm dead. Only the first few rounds and then nothing. Even spec_menu 0 and so doesn't work.

Steam didn't answere you personally? How odd!
I think the only answer you'll get is the one already given. Are you typing spec_menu 0 in the console when you are back in the game, i.e. 'alive'? So that the NEXT time you die you should be able to type again. The other thing that has occured to me is , if you are crouched or hit the crouch button as you die it will have the same effect.

Are you starting CS with "-console" as part of your command line? If not it might be worth a try?

there are a heap of idiots on the steam forums saying that it is their ISPs blocking port 135. What crud. Where do these people get their info?

Pure and simple: Valve release update, steam breaks, valve suk does anybody have anything to add?

log out of steam, delete clientregistry.blob from steam folder, restart steam, steam now works.

Honestly, what a load of *+-/*/*/'##

At least 1.5 still works. We could always have a server running that just in case!!

i did what u said, but it updates again and gives me same message and blob file is still in folder

Sadako answered this in the stickied thread, you need the blob file to play the game, but deleting it forces steam to create a (hopefully uncorrupted) new one.

My other thought was to check that under Games, right click on Counter-Strike>Properties and check that the game is set to update always.  This will make sure that you always run the latest version of the game.  This may be a reason why the client.dll message pops up and is consistent with why that error message used to arrive under older versions of CS.

Just checked the Steam news page and what I thought was just a client release is actually a server and client release.

As the dMw servers haven't been upgraded yet, anyone who has the updated client will receive the differing .dll error message.

I plan to update the servers within the next two hours.

Please note that I am going to take this opportunity to also change the server password. The new password will be available from the relevent forum section.

Latest update

ALL GAMES:
Fixed problem in Direct3D mode where the game would be unavailable for some users. Direct3D mode should work now, but note that OpenGL will provide a better play experience if your video card is capable
Fixed regression that was causing the 'load failed' crash to happen on level change
Optimized some of the particle drawing code
For mod makers - debugging mods no longer requires the steam.dll to be copied into the game directory

COUNTER-STRIKE:
Fixed shield exploit that involved dropping a weapon and buying a pistol in a specific order; you must restart your dedicated server to pick up this change
