Hi, i will soon be ordering a new bundle to replace my fried AMD core 2 duo. When it comes to hardware im not overly all clued up. I have been looking at some on overclockers and wanted your opinion on the few i like the look of. Now i only have a limited budget which is why i have chosen these below, any help would be much appreciated:
Radon AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 95W Edition 2.80GHz @ 3.80GHz Overclocked Bundle (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-038-OB&groupid=43&catid=2053&subcat=)
"Argon Tarbosaur" Intel Core i5 2300 2.80GHz Bundle
(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-023-OP&groupid=43&catid=2052&subcat=)
Or this if i was brave enough to stretch the budget sllightly:
Krypton Evo AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80GHz @ 3.80GHz Overclocked Bundle

Thought's? Advice? :g:
I don't think it's worth paying extra for the better CPU - you're not likely to see much in-game performance extra from it.
Having said that, the Phenom bundle comes with a better motherboard (bigger, more upgrade potential further down the line) so you might want to consider that.
Extra cpu will only benefit arma 2/ oa as its so cpu dependent, more cores the better for this particular engine, theres an old test here http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687620/ArmA-2-tested-Benchmarks-with-18-CPUs/Practice/ (http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687620/ArmA-2-tested-Benchmarks-with-18-CPUs/Practice/)
Any amd issues are now solved im told although im not sure how many members have amd and can report there being used efficiently, playclaw has some very good features for this http://www.playclaw.com/ (http://www.playclaw.com/)
I have been eyeing the same bundle http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=33 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=33) and think it would last a while.
well went with the QUAD CORE AM3 Phenomâ,,¢II X4 840 ASUS 4GB for £226, got a cool heatsink too (Silent Knight II), one that took me 2 hours ish to actually build/install
i do have a little problem though, windows recognises 4 gig of ram but says 3.25 in use, anyone know what thats all about?
Thanks for your help guys :D
if you are using a 32 bit version of windows it wont see all of the 4 gig of ram, to get it all then the 64 bit version is required, check what versin of windows you have,
Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, and in Windows Vista/7 you'll get a window that includes, among other things, this information:

if it says 32 bit operating system at the bottom then it will not show 4GB within Windows. What you'll probably get is the size of your pagefile subtracted from the 4GB. if it says 64 bit then you have a little problem to play with.
wouldnt worry about it mine says the same on a 32 windows 7 i think it has somthing to do with the ammount of ram window uses? (but dont quote me on that)
Oh, it is a 32-bit install of windows. Does that mean i have to get a 64-bit version to utilise all of my ram? thats pants..... :-(.....although i see on ebuyer its cheaper...interesting :g:
the money you spend on 64 versus the performance gain would be very small, hold on to your money a have a cold beer instead
It also has to do with your gpu as there's an overlap in Windows (or was it x86 hardware...) memory addressing that means the gpu gets addresses from 3gb up or something. They never thought we'd need this much RAM. Similar but smaller overlaps exist at other "that'll be enough" points.
Yep, you'll need to do a complete reinstall of 64bit Windows to use the extra RAM.
Sulky's probably right about the performance though, its only worth reinstalling if you go up to 6gb.

Ram wise yes, but that's also a 64bit CPU so depending on the programs you run there are gains to be made there too. Considering (at least at launch) serial numbers for 32bit and 64bit were cross compatible (ie if you had 64bit you could use it with 32bit and vice versa) it might be worth a format if it doesn't cost you anything (double check this is still the case before formatting).
