Title: Screen Resolution Problems
Post by: TheDvEight on July 16, 2011, 04:23:19 PM
Didnt have this problem before but messed about with screen res on BC:2 and now cant get it to fit my screen

Ive got a 32" Tv that i have my pc on i have my screen res on 1280 x 1024 where everything fits perfectly (on desktop & other games such as half life, arma, lfd2, football manager 2011 etc)

but i also have 1280 x 1024 for BC:2 but on the left hand side of the screen there is like a black rectangle going down the screen (where i assume its the wrong resolution)?

But im not sure what resolution I need to have it at?

Normally a TV will be 1080p which is 1920 x 1080. This is a 16:9 format and is a standard in the industry. Sometimes older TV's would use nonstandard resolutions (normally 720p sets) but that was back in the day and I doubt you have one of them.

Change the res to 1920 x 1080 and see if this fixes it.

If not :

How are you connecting your PC to your TV? (HDMI? DSUB?)

What "mode" is your TV on in terms of the Picture settings? You should have "game mode" enabled anyway to give you a better response time (if connecting through HDMI).

It might be worth taking the TV off "Automatic" and cycling through "letterbox" , "4:3" etc till you get to "16:9" or "Standard" might be worth trying if changing the resolution doesn't work.

Hope this helps,

DZ.

ocz 500w psu

If the TV is 1080p then 1920x1080 is the correct res, or 1280x720 for 1080i or 720p.

Check the refresh rate as well is it 60Hz or 50Hz

might be BC2 forcing an incorrect refresh rate, try disabling or enabling Vsync

may i suggest moving the thread to the technology section ;)

Not entirely correct, but close :)
1080p = 1920*1080 progressive scan
1080i = 1920*1080 interlaced scan (actually its liek 1920*540 X 2 (due to only every second frame is refreshed)) but screen is at 1920*1080
720p = 1280×720 progressive scan
720i = 1280×720 interlaced (so again its actually 1280*360 x 2)

and yessss interlaced is rubbishhh :)

It is this tv

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-32LD420-widescreen-1080p-FullHD/dp/B003A4H6T6

I'm not sure how to mess with vsync its refreshing at 60htz and in game refresh rate is between 60-90

What sort of video card are you using?

I know the Nvidia control panel has an option for re-sizing the screen when you output to a TV.

You might need to just adjust the picture size slightly (not the resolution) in order to get rid of that black bar.

I'll be on TS tonight, give me a shout if you need a hand.

your graphics card should also have a either a HDMI output or a DVI to HDMI converter..

if your tv and graphics card both has a HDMI connector then yes, it just requires the cable, nothing else :) plug and play
