Title: Upgrades, Reforges, Gems for RGW
Post by: vladic on July 18, 2011, 10:41:47 PM
Hey guys thought id just post the Mr robot software again just for people to use (i knw it sometimes doesnt make sence what its asking you to do) but 9.5 times outta ten the software is correct only issue it seems to have is with tanks having stam or stats

//www.askmrrobot.com

and another hint i shall give is to google your rotation but put for example "hunter rotation 4.2" as some rotations have changed since the patch just just searching "hunter rotation" brings up the most searched results not generally the one you want.

As I said in May when you last posted this, I encourage people to learn more about how their toon works and how to get the absolute maximum out of it in terms of dps/survivability/healing/threat etc. However, you do need to know a bit to understand where these simplistic models go wrong.  For example for shadow priests the 'software' makes several nasty errors including:

-a couple of bad enchanting mistakes including the awful recommendation to use +30 Stamina+movement speed enchant on boots!! (for a shadow priest?)

So DYOR.  Don't follow these guides blindly or you'll potentially be badly misled, you still need to know about your toon to know when the info given is solid.

Quote from: TeaLeaf;324093Not a great fan of this type of thing, mainly because you need to know the issues to understand whether or not the answer you are being given is total bullshit.  For example, for my shadow priest the nice Mr Robot recommended:

-downgrading from an Exhalted shoulder enchant to the Honored version (and losing spell-power and haste in the process).
-Mr Robot then agreed with my reforging of mastery to haste.
-But then suggested I change my +50 haste enchant on boots for +35 mastery with a small run speed boost (huh?)

Mastery is worth so much less than haste for shadow priests.  Lavawalker (mastery + run speed) is at best a utility enchant and a personal choice for raid survival, it's not a rule and certainly not BIS for dps.

As always, do your own research.  Some of what is said is bloody obvious, but some of what the nice Mr Robot pumps out is complete drivel.

I applaud the effort Vladic, but people need to know enough about their own class to interpret some of these results.  Unfortunately some might not have that knowledge and will need guidance on a one to one basis to help them 'find the right path'.

If you follow the Askmrrobot link all the way through to the forums, then follow two more links to the FAQ from the Gear Optimzer section, you find these notes about half way down the FAQ:

Quote from: askmrrobotBoot enchants!  QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM!   ^TOP^
There are a few things here.
1) Mr. Robot personally thinks you should ALWAYS run faster than 100%.
2) Some classes have talents that boost run speed.  If you have them, Mr. Robot can see this, and should select a non-runspeed enchant.  If you do not, he will opt to make your feet faster.  Also, Mr. Robot's default talent trees typically have Run Speed talents picked, and therefore do not have run speed enchants selected in their BiS lists.
3) Mr. Robot does not consider glyphed Bone Shield a valid Run Speed replacement, and will suggest enchanting your boots regardless.
4) Selecting different options can greatly influence what Mr. Robot will suggest.  You can exclude Run Speed entirely by selecting the approporiate option.
It's stuff like this that takes time to dig out.  The lesson is to spend time learning your character and read notes that accompany such gear optimzers as they often have caveats or exceptions or assumptions that you or other theorycrafters might disagree with.

No.
I tried this mrrobot thing a couple of months ago just to see suggestions, but no..
I laughed and closed the browser window. They had some weird +haste suggestion that had no root in reality.

It didnt feel right:
Reading up on mmo-champ, EJ and other sites, they all recomend a fine blend of spirit/haste/mastery/crit for shamans, one should not rule out one in particular. For instance;
Resto Shamans as tank healer should have more crit for procs and such.
Resto Shaman as raid healer should value mastery higher, for added healing on low-health multiple targets.
And so goes the list... For all classes, specs and roles.

Conclusion:
There are so many variables, that reading up on differen forums whilst testing for yourself really is much better than mrrobot. Its all skill, playstyle, knowledge and love. You cant get that from a robot.

:withstupid:

If you don't know how to play your toon or how to equip it you just shouldn't be raiding.
Ofcourse there are always some things that you overlook or just didn't think about but those are small things, if correct you level up your own toon in the spec you want to play, that way you learn step by step all the spells etc. Gearwise is a bit of reading the world wide web.

It is almost the same thing as knowing the tactics for a raid boss, if you don't know what to do then stay away...

and yes like i did before i just laugh at that software as it has no clue on how to equip/gem a feral dps druid.

I recently used it, to get a grip about my fury-kit, as i was kinda stuck there. All suggestions to reforging and enchants looked sound, untill i noticed i was put below the dodge cap, hence i readjusted according to my own opinion.
I would merely use it as a guideline, and not something to follow blindly.

im not suggesting you follow it blindly lol and jas has used it and says it is a decent piece of software, but anyway as a fury warrior ive used it and never run afoul, i do know how to play my character icehawk its just generally useful in balancing the stats out and finding little improvements with gear changes (for example rage of ages before 4.2 was a terrible necklace with a tiny bit more strength but crap terribble stats, after 4.2 it has become a decent neck, using the stats table i can see it)

im not saying the software is perfect, but checking it against other people (using sithy as example) aside from 2 reforges sithy's kit is gemmed and reforged the way the optomizer suggested so the software cant be completely faulty.

And doing research is all well and good, finding what you need is good but balancing it on your armour is another thing, hence why it can be useful to have something to help with the reforging.

Agree. I use the reforgers as a guide but your own priority and class feel needs to come 1st.

I found, while mrrobot's priority list was right, the suggestions where wrong. Was a bit odd.
