Title: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Post by: RizZy on August 12, 2011, 06:19:04 PM
So, new CS?

QuoteThe Counter-Strike: Global Offensive rumors were true. Valve Software announced the game today and already added a listing for it to Steam.

And another (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/12/counter-strike-global-offensive/).

It's being developed by the makers of Defence Grid, which was an excellent game.

QuoteIt’s due in 2012, and the world will get to clap eyes on it at PAX Prime and the London Games Festival later this year.
This, in essence, is Counter-Strike 3, and the first news of it this morning was a huge surprise. It is, it’s safe to say, going to be enormous â€" but will it be free to play as TF2 now is and Dota 2 is rumoured to be? Mysteries!

We should keep a close eye on this one :)

w00t the freaking w00p :D

Excellent news this, now lets hope it will be out 1st of January 2012 :P

Are we going to buy extra servers as a community now? I expect 3-5 full servers every night [ok I might be overreacting there]

There needs to be a new Defence grid too!

Yeah, I love Defence Grid...but it's quite different to CS. But the makers have the valve mentality to making games. Make it stunningly well, give away extra content and generally do a good job. It certainly seems like a positive first step.

It will be released as a "Arcade" Game on consoles not a full retail release so expect it to be around £15 hopefully :)

Ive been chatting to a couple of people in the CS scene who went over to the USA to 'consult' on its appeal to the esports gaming scene. He was not overly impressed by there plans. However these guys want a hardcore esports game like 1.6 was and I think that time has been and gone. This as Krispy says will be an Arcade game. However it does boast different game modes such as capture the fag etc, so to have match modes for clans with good old game modes also should be quite fun regardless of its console nature. I know a lot of people who are going to come back for a sniff of this game.

If dMw are going to support it I know a lot of my old lot (3mc) would come out of retirement to play rather then get 3mc going again.

Plus. Awp is a great gun and very easy to stop effectively when you are in a team game. Annoying on a public server ill give you that :)

In Icarus link, they discuss de_trains. If I ever hated a map more, it's trains.
They said that they are redoing it so, that it will only have 1 bombsite.
Now, I'm not sure if I stressed it enough, but, I hate trains! and this might even make it worse ... camp fest anyone?
(or am I wrong and will this increase the amounth of tactical play?)

And, Molotov cocktail FTW! It does some direct damage when hit with it, and some aoe damage and apparantly slows the person down a bit. Seems to me a valueable addition to tactical play (with mature players on a mature server that is, otherwhise it'll be a grenade/cocktail spamfest)

Train was reliant on coordinated smokes and speed, if you wanted to get the bomb down, also if dMw are not a fan of AWPs, its probably the only CSS map apart from CBBLE where you really need them as CT.  As for removing a bombsite I think thats nuts, dont know about you but Id stand more chance killing all the CT's than trying to plant the bomb if i was on the T side thus making it TDM.. ?

I'm more worried that the graphics look worse than the original...

I like that all the classic maps are back, but they're still available for the old version...if you don't care about the graphics you'd play that instead.

probably mac vs pc, i dont think you can use auto aim in multiplayer only co-op and single player (on the majority of games anyway)

Sounding Good. The visuals are still lacking. It's been 7 years in the making (well...at least people have been waiting on it for that long). I much prefer CS to CoD but the graphics became too old that the gameplay couldn't make up for its shortcomings. If they keep the gameplay we know and love, but don't do enough to the graphics we'll be back in the same position as we already are before the game is even released.

There are lots of positive additions and games don't need to look like BF3 to be good, but they should try. The engine still has plenty to give.

Oh Snokio, thanks for posting this, totally made my day, am so looking forward to this :D
Finally some game makers get the idea of an excellent simpel game, that doesn't need ridiculous new features like healtpacks, airstrikes etc. It wouldn't be CS anymore if they had included it. Its all most true CS fans ever wanted, a new good looking CS, just like it was. :D

The molotov sounds great, and the Pro mode also. I love the idea of having only 2 defusal kits in a team, really adds to the tactical part of the game (same as with the molotov)

It does feel a bit well...like a graphical upgrade and nothing more. I guess it's alright, Counter Strike Source did it and it showed that the classic Counter Strike gameplay still held strong. I believe it still does to be honest.

It's a shame, but understandable. The nerd-rage that would ensue from PC gamers having to wait for patches because of the PS3 'approval' process would be horrendous - not to mention the cost to Valve!

This is what Lib thought of the beta 5/6/12:

QuoteWarm and welcoming.

They have prettied up the graphics and added extra guns and grenades,  but they add to the game and slot into the existing framework very well.

I think they have managed to pull off a good update to the old gal and  can see myself getting back into the old Friday night fragging.

They have also made a few map changes, but nothing drastic, just opened  up a few extra doors here and there. On Dust for instance, they have  modified the underpass to make it a little better for the T's to not get  caught in an ambush. They have also made the underground areas on Nuke  smaller.

We didn't try a Tower of Power.

All in all, it is looking like a must buy for the LAN, especially at the  price that's been mentioned. It's not got the graphics and game  mechanics of BF3 and BC2 and that probably explains the pricing, but  from what we played tonight, it is the fast fix that it always was and  everyone starts equal at the beginning of the map.

Hello old friend, the facelift has smoothed out the years quite nicely.

I really wanted CSGO to drag me back to playing CS but the beta is so far very poor. Its not much good when the previous version is a better game apart from looks, simple things like it taking an age to get in or out of a vent.. Weapon recoil is borked still and the game feels its been noobed right down for the modern warfare generation. Ive always been a die hard cs player and will probably get it anyway however the real test will be when this promised big update comes out next week to see if things have changed. My worry is that there has been very little updates to the beta.

Some nice touches however like the molatov and the decoy grenades.

Fingers crossed.
