Hi Folks,
Has anyone tried this:
http://battlestar-galactica.bigpoint.com
Forums are great:
http://en.board.bigpoint.com/bgo/
I liked the fact that it runs the Unity Engine which I've found has made some of the tablet based games look fantastic:
http://unity3d.com/webplayer/
They're clearly struggling for Cylons so there is a 50% XP bonus for 10 days on sign up.
The dMw Wing (Guild to some): DeadMenWarping
Sign up on Server: Virgon
~ For new players reading: http://en.board.bigpoint.com/bgo/ and more specifically: http://en.board.bigpoint.com/bgo/showthread.php?t=318487 will save you time guessing a few of the subtleties about the game. There aren't many for an MMO style game which is why I like it.
Albert's observations - to save you time:
1) You get several high value items to store and use for various purposes throughout the game.
CUBITS are cash, you can get this completing missions, looting other ships you bring down or playing BigPoint cash. (30K CUBITS gets your first ship upgrade, to Advanced Raider if you want to keep the starting ship FYI of their value.) CUBITS don't come to you often in the game but for the first few days if you don't upgrade you could probably get 10K.
TYLIUM is fuel and can also be used to buy ship upgrades in the early stages and mining and looting get you plenty of this. (Early upgrades can be bought for TYLIUM only but later a mix of both TYLIUM and CUBITS are required). (TUNING KITS can be purchased and early on for TYLIUM can save you a lot of mining to upgrade certain ship components. They are bought for 1000 CUBITS later in the game and you should not waste CUBITS on these until your upgrades start costing 1000 CUBITS approx.)
WATER is obtainable through mining and can be sold (or SALVAGED as the games calls selling) for CUBITS .
TITANIUM is mined and is used to repair your HULL (or ship to most people).
LOW VALUE SALVAGE ITEMS - Such as old ship parts you loot, can be sold for TYLIUM. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SELL YOUR WEAPONS BY MISTAKE. SAME LIST!!!
2) Mining needs a mining cannon and a scanner helps. If you scan first any asteroid it will turn either red, yellow, blue or violet. Red indicates no minerals the others are valuable, so blast the asteroid and when it explodes you get the booty. Mining cannons save you wasting your valuable HE ammo on asteroids, mining ammo doesn't deplete! Do this for a few hours and you probably get plenty TYLIUM.
3) Debris Fields - If you see one of these out in the stars, you'll either do one of two things, fly over and find a long blueish cargo canister which you can loot by clicking on it, or fly around for a few minutes looking for the blue canister and not find it because it's already been looted. Don't waste your time if you don't see it immediately it's probably gone.
4) Weapons - you have cannons already on your ship at the beginning of the game but if you want missiles or mining cannons you'll need to buy them.
Browser wise this is aweful with IE9. Must be the lack of hardware integration. Mozilla 6 on the other hand is delightful ;-)
Been playing this all day now, and I must say I love it. The fact that it's in a browser and the Graphics card is doing all the processing is great. I did a bit of monitoring on mine and I get to 47% load on my ATI HD4870x2! Try with IE and nothing, no hardware use.
It's pretty easy to get the hang of, well I seem to have the gist. You can meet up and create a squadron and go around reeking havoc. Take down big ships stuff you wouldn't manage to defeat alone. An the XP going up pretty quick with the squad thing going on.
I do have an account I created in a slow five minutes, but I've only played for 30 minutes or so. I agree though, initial impressions are very good. Well worth a look. I've opted for cylon too.
Nice one Gandy,
So in true dark side fashion it would be great if any newcomers would become a:
CYLON
I started up an account aswell on cylon side.
pld for 20 min yesterday and those 20 mins where pretty fun :)
i have an account on the cylon side as well under sneakytiger
Good stuff, just wait until you get into a Battle with a decent size fleet, the visuals are amazing. Trying to strafe around the bigger ships and.not get picked off. Really challenging but when you get your first pvp kill it's worth it.
Suggest reading through the full Advice for noobs section on their forum. Will help get you mining and skilling up.
Is there a specific server/realm etc that we play on. i defaulted to Vardon or something sounding like that?
Virgon is the one I defaulted to and it seems to go there each time. So I recommend trying that :).
Vardon.... Virgon I was close. I'm smilodon70 should anyone care :)
Great, will catch you on there tomorrow. Our neice has seconded my computer room for her cot so can't play tonight as she's Leeway asleep. ;-)
Cheers,
Albert

I can't remember what server I'm on! Still, barely get time to play anything at the moment!
Right I'm in there on Virgon and I've done the standard newbie update on my ship. I've also bought a mining laser but for the life of me I can't work out how to move it from my hold into use? I click on it but there is no option to install. activate or drag'n'drop it onto position? :g: It is getting a little bit frustrating :taz:.
Any pointers?
Assuming you have a free slot I think you buy it and it goes into your hold and then you indeed drag and drop if onto a Babar mount point. ....... I think?
Oh and what is the standard newbie update?
Not 100% sure of what it actually contains but it was the top option in the buy menu. Contains cannons, hull plates, scanner, auto-repair and stuff. The description suggested it was a good first upgrade for new players.
Go to Number 8, the Chinese girl in the station and choose to buy. Then with hold selected drag it to a free slot.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
So you can only move/install stuff while docked? That could have been why it didn't work.
Yep out in space you can only resource up your ammo via right click on the weapons icons. Watch all but lowest spec ammo requires Cubits to buy.
Move all stuff around whilst docked. Store anything you don't need immediately in your locker or.there items will get damaged if you are killed. Less you have in your locker the less damage taken the less Titanium required to fully repair.
Drag from hold to slot whilst on the buy view to equip.

OK Lib and I have created a Wing in the Virgon called dmw, if anyone cares to join.

I'd love to but I'm a bit stuck in the game and would appreciate a bit of guidance. I'll be online tonight if someone wouldn't mind helping me with some of the basics.
I won't be online until late tonight but I'm sure that Lib would only be too willing to help. We used TS last night when we messed about and that helps a lot.
You may want to take a shufftie here, http://en.board.bigpoint.com/bgo/forumdisplay.php?f=1919, lots of good information.
Have you completed the training missions? I think the last one is to mine a planetoid..
I'll try to be on tonight as well although I have no real clue what I'm doing. I'm mainly trying to find quests.
Thats just the last one before you level up enough to accept more from Al.. err Dr Wellington Yueh.... no, Cavil aka Number One.
I took a trip to a sector under attack last night, and quickly jumped back out again those were big shipd and battles.
Main thing seems to be to listen to the music change and hit 'x' to lock onto any threats, so far I've stayed away from the real humans and just been shooting NPC's.
Got myself some upgraded weapons and a missile launcher now.
Level 8 - Enhanced Optio v3.1.
I'm guessing new ships will cost a fortune in cubits, mainly so they can get you to fork over real cash.

Just joined.... though at the moment it's only lunchtimes I get a chance to play!
I got rid of the wing later that night, so there isn't one at the mo'.
Suppose I could create another.
joined sulky_uk is the name.....used to play something galled ogame a while back and got addicted, wife says if this does the same thing she'll call leroy

Lib - you're a star. All sorted and what good fun that was. Hooked.
I now need 600,000 Tylium to get a nice big assault ship to hurt people.
Reached Decurion V1.0 (level 10) last night after a tootle around the systems.
While I was looking around 3 Colonial line ships warped in and attacked a mining rig on a local planetoid, they called in their own mine and sat there guarding it, I did a few foolhardy runs at them and pulled away to lick my wounds with about 20 hull left.
They went off to kill some of our ships in the system, so I sneaked in and attacked their mine, huge explosion and loads of XP, rocketed me over the level 10 threshold.
I'm liking this a lot.
We regret to announce that the dMw wing has disbanded after less than 2 days.
:crying:
Please all raise a glass to the new wing.......

Get closer, like 50 distance away, they die quick, at 500 you may as well go get another beer.
more beer... hmm sound like a plan....

Top right of the galaxy, mondo 1500+ mining!
Every 3rd asteroid!
you lucky frakker !
i also visited a mining area at level 4.... baad move - there`s some big asses rocks with like 35k of stuff in them- and some very big asses drones and ships... i died.. hahaha.. grrr
Well, we had a damn good session today, we had all the mining operations running for us in one sector today, in total we had 3 mines go to completion and unfortunately lost the last water mine at 20k when some level 20+ humans came in and got the remaining 3 of us after the nights fun.
If you're in the game, then drop onto TeamSpeak and get us to add you into the group, or start one yourself.
We're cracking on through the levelling, but when you have 6 or 7 of us guarding an area from level 1 to 16, we kick bottom. Not much was challenging us on the first two mines and we managed to keep the entire sector locked down.
Of course, if the humans had known we had about 130K+ on water mining on the go, we would have been overrun.
When we have a few Line ships, Escorts and a squadron of Strikes, we are going to have some good invasion battles going.

Great fun yesterday folks. :boxing:
Aye twas fun, nice teamwork on those bigger ships! :worship: :dmw:
had a giggle last night guys cheers
Have stopped playing horde for a bit and trying this out... Seems pretty cool for a free game but a little confused on the controls at the moment. Makes me wonder if you can have it working with a joystick instead of keys. Might play around with it. Am player Gortex and will try work out joining the guild.
Thing that I believe was crucial in us keeping the mines was first we never announced it to the fleet so human spies didn't get wind of us.
Second and I was against this last night but in hindsight OB and Similo were attacking early and I think that helped prevent our planetoid from being scanned for minerals.
Last we kept humans well off our patch so 2500+ clicks and they never knew what we were guarding.
Also not engaging with every ship was a good strategy.
I think we'll be pretty good with escorts and lines.
Good games!

Errrr ... a browser. Sorted :thumb:
There seems to be an optimal range beyond which it's safe not to attack enemies and they don't pick up that we're mining. What that range is I'm not sure though. 2500+ seems a good guess. I'm also not sure when the main map shows up a red dot on the sector fo our mine. Does it happen as soon as we start a mining ship going or do we have to be observed by a human player or a human NCP? Not sure how this feature works.
Well signed up also, AcidSkass
I am in and nearly lvl 3 :)
signed up and the name is Tanales :)
signed up....arctic89
dont think i get it tho :P(the game)
me, DA and zhadum just mined a 75k water rock to nothing
$$$$$ yea !
And the annoying thing is, we stayed up and watched it all the way through to the end.
From 75K to rubble.
And some nice Russian (we assume so because he originally typed in a Cyrillic type language) helped us defend it with only XP for reward.
Nice, well done guys :)
We need some sort of wing bank where you can put our share! Lucky gits.

Soon you will rise to the rank of George Forman Grill!
So, so tired.
When do we get to complete this game?
Quote from: Liberator;334667When do we get to complete this game?
When all ur bases belong to me.
We need to get a fleet sorted out so that we can go on some raids and expunge all humans from our target sector!
woo! it's getting a good following now :D I just need to find some time to get online and destroy some stuff!
GG's last night and thanks for the help.
I now have flying sorted and combat. Someone told me about learning skills by pressing 'h' which was good. Now I need to go shopping and work out what I need to buy :)
Is it worth spending £7.50 on the 80,000 credits and what should I be buying?

That offer is great but don't get carried away Pen.
You won't get double cubits again.
That sort of money will get you any ship you want and after L10 you can get Escort ships.
As a Wing we need to think about how to get the ships we need to dominate. Also what's good for you playing solo.
Advanced Raider is cool but we probably will need Heavy Raiders like TL has.
Marauder might be useful the forums on the BSGO site are handy for gettingvp views on ships.
I got the 80K Deal and went Advanced Raider but I spent loads on general upgrades and probably wasted cash.
Also general feeling is don't buy a line for solo play. A single L25 Viper can beat you from your blind spot.
Banshee or Wraith seem good choices at L10. There is a good Newbie topic discussing them.
Spectre is 60k and you go advanced right from the start. That's like the bigbrother of TLs ship.
Cheers,
Albert

Well I can safely say that I won't be playing it unless I'm playing with a bunch of dMw'ers. I can't remember the last time I played a game outside of dMw (perhaps to level up in CoD IIRC) and I certainly can't remember the last I played a game single player...... I know it's not in the last several years.
So I'm totally open as to what I should be looking for in terms of what's best for our gang. So long as it's fun, easy, is fast and shoots stuff then I'm in :)
The rest of your post is gibberish and means nothing to me. I have some reading up to do methinks. Where is the best resource for that?
Jump on mate and we will see you right

Getting a leveled up strike like the default Raider Pen is definitely a lot of fun. Keeping your additional cubits until you see where the game takes you and then spending them more sensibly than I did. Trouble was I was playing alone so I needed a quick boost to get me good enough to travel around more sectors with more serious foes.
Maybe after a few weeks and after L10 you'll know the type of ship you want to upgrade to and spend your dosh then.
Check the Forums page which has a link of the BSGO homepage, the Newbie section is excellent.

After getting a toehold into WoT, you now dump this at my door.
I think I get the gist of things but I'm not much competition for your average Breville yet.
I already had an account on there it seems, so on the off chance I play it enough, hook me up with an invite to the wing, or thing, or whatever it is called ingame.

You can just join the wing and we'll approve it for you :)
Riz make sure you are logged onto the Virgon server otherwise you won't find us.
Yea I'm on Virgon, I'll have a look for you when I get home or if I get time during a break at work.
I approved it yesterday so welcome to the Wing!

I succumbed to pressure and registered etc.
I really do not have a clue what is going on.
Half the buttons don't do anything and the ones that do, confuse me.
Does it even work in Firefox?
How do I catch up with you lot? I can't see anything resembling a search for friends button.
Now I know how Doorman used to feel:blink:
Any chance of a walkthrough one evening?
:help2:
Edit: Sorted now, thanks Lib & Sn00ks
stick with it Blunt, im still learning, but its getting very interesting now, i found it very very hard at first...but i can pretty much say i will be playing this for a long long long time :)
Heh it's not a point and shoot is it.
IT looks like you were getting to grips with it last night so hang in there.
I felt exactly the same as you but after playing it for about an hour it all became clear. It's quite fun and the teamwork element is there so stay with it!
