Look at the timer for enrage.... Thats where we might have a problem, as these guys killed it with 40secs left to go. But yeh... Definately worth a try.

But remember the buff boosts dps, so the numbers are difficult to assess without trying it.  Unlike HC Rhyo, the HC Domo encounter is not a dps burn race, so the enrage should not be an issue unless we do something seriously poorly.  It's certainly worth consideration.

Also note that at least one of them, so probably more, used the PVP trinket to allow an escape from a stun.  Racials aside, it's worth noting.

Certainly this tactic has got me thinking - and I think we could do this and it would be a heck of a sight easier than the normal route.  I think.....

For clarity, here's the rules posted up with the video:

QuoteOur tactic is special, in comparison to what we have seen elsewhere. Do keep that in mind when reading.

You need one person who's good with calling out, that'll probably be your raid leader or main tank. We had our raid leader do it.

The simple summary of our tactic: Do not let him do ANYTHING.
I am not kidding. Spread out and stack up EVERY TIME he's gonna do his first attack in every phase. About at 60% energy we stack up/spread out.

We did some rules here for the fight:
- We tanked the boss in the middle of the room. Going outside of the circle as any role when not having bomb at under 5s means minus DKP.
- We juggled around with the orbs, so when Orbs are present in scorpion phase, you only have to move 2-3 yards, but you must still be infront of the boss. This idiotproofs the scorpion phase so even if we're abit slow on spreading out, we might still survive.

Again, you need fast reacting players and a really good caller. Screw the caller's DPS, as we had more than enough time before enrage. He just needs to make sure to call out SPREAD and STACK at 60-70% energy.

As you see in our kill, our rogue (Sovaly) even DC'd in the middle of the fight, outside of the ring. Replace Sovaly with your main caller, and you'll imagine that you can do it with that 1 less DPS. :)

Once we got this down, it is a piece of cake. Spread, stack, take orb, spread, stack. Rinse and repeat.

The logs that go with this fight are here:
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-rgnc75vqcsw0puzw/sum/damageDone/?s=3292&e=3851

As can be seen, they 2 heal the fight, so 1 tank and 7 dps.

If we do this, I'd envisage the calling being done by the MT as this allows DPS to focus entirely on movement, dps & orb control.

H-uh. Interesting approach to say the least :-)

EDIT: Here is a Power Aura that *should* give you a huge green thing in the middle of your screen when he's 70%> on Energy. I've tested it with Rage on myself and that worked. I tried it with a catdruid in duel but it didn't work. So shortly said, I've no idea if it'll work when we go for Domo, but we'll find out soon enough ;-)

Import it into the Power Aura's config screen in the game. You can change the icon size/color/texture etc. of course, which is the top half of the settings. It's set to only show on a 10-man HC fight, so won't interfere with the normal encounter.

Version:4.17; b:0.0824; thresholdinvert:true; target:true; icon:inv_battery_02; r:0; unitn:Majordomo Staghelm; bufftype:10; texture:27; PowerType:3; threshold:65; combat:true; size:2.69; inRaid:true; y:46

After tonight's test, Power Aura's makes it 10 times easier to see when you need to move out or stack up. I would say make this mandatory for every raider for this fight.

Power Aura's (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/powerauras-classic)

Quick manual:
Install the addon, type /powa to bring up the menu. Click Import, and paste the above code in the window that pops up. Done! You don't need to do anything else with the addon after this. No toggling during raids or anything, it's just there in the background and should only ever pop on this boss (as I don't know any other bosses who work with energy bars).

Customization:
To customize this Aura, select it in the /powa menu and click edit. The top half of the edit window governs the looks of the aura that pops up. It is now set to display a giant green ! in a triangle in the smack centre of your screen, whenever the boss hits 65%> energy. While it's my opinion that its blatant obstruction is what makes it so brilliant, some of you may opt for a more conservative look. You can change the scale, color, texture, position, etc. if you wish, but make sure it's still something that stands out with regards to the rest of your UI.

For those of you who PvP, you may want to toggle PvP flag set in the lower half of the screen to show a red X. This way it won't pop up whenever you face a rogue or kitty in PvP ;-)

You can add further warnings to the Aura using the tabs Animation and Sound, above the lower part of the window. They pretty much speak for themselves. Timer and Stacks aren't relevant for this particular Aura.

Aside from this aura, I encourage you all to experiment further for other fights. PA's an amazing addon! ;-)

Nice tries last night, 38% was our best so we have a good chance of completing this fight on Tuesday night.

Where I am still pondering is how we handle poor orb placement (ie when they both spawn close to each other & are at range near or on the same radius).  Nothing else seemed to be a concern during the fight.

If Orbs are split sufficiently then they are not an issue as we can move into a position within the ring without too much of a problem.  If they are together they create problems as the 'nearest' to one orb might well also be nearest to a 2nd orb and therefore pick up 2 lots of damage per tick instead of 1.  This creates healing issues as more than 4 hurts a lot and soakers will die.

A possible plan is to call a bigger group to soak - let's say the 2 teams of 2 soakers each (total 4 soakers) all move to the radius covering the 2 closely spawned orbs and create a line/queue of 4 people.  The person at the back of the queue takes 2 x double damage ticks (4 stacks of debuff) and then moves to the front of the line.  Next person does the same and so on - thus we get the same period of time to allow debuffs to tick off as we would if we were handling a single orb with a group of 2.  The only difficult aspect of this approach might be if one of the queue has seeds due to explode whilst they are soaking, so we might need a couple of reserve soakers to move into position at that point and then out again.  If we're grouped at this point then it is easy to handle, we just need to watch our positions carefully to make sure a non-soaker does not take more than they should.   If the binary pair have to be soaked whilst ranged then it needs fast movement from those soaking to get into range to soak and stack up in the queue/line.   Again, all this has to be done within the ring!  IF we get people outside the ring we'll never have sufficient range to get back in before triggering the major nuke ability for that phase.

Looking at the video this is what they did in a less prescribed way.  The shared the double stacks of debuff - is situational awareness high enough within the group to do it this 'more flexible' way?

I think this would work to cover those awkward positions.  What do people think?

I think this is the worst possible situation ... we are stacked for the scorpion (we also have seeds) and the orbs 1+2 pop up outside melee

http://bossblueprint.com/world-of-warcraft/app/view.php?img=pfPYQQiGc
(http://cdn1.bossblueprint.com/php/get.php?game=wow&img=pfPYQQiGc) (http://bossblueprint.com/view.php?game=wow&img=pfPYQQiGc)

We have a close orb team that must stay within the melee and move slightly to get range on number 1.... We must have the second team of 2 max move out to get the buff from the far orb. This should still allow us to have people running out with seeds without sending the boss into the cat phase.

In cat phase its not a problem to move about to pick up orbs the only issue could be is if we get orbs in melee but the guys already there can deal with that

That's an easy one to fix, everyone groups up at front, we rotate as normal.  A temporary loss of dps by some melee is minor in an encounter where it is not a real big dps race.

and he is DOWN!!!!

First of all thnx all it felt good being there for a guild first kill again (only missed Ryo since firelands).
It felt very relaxed and easy with the tactic we used.

Melee dps has it freaking easy and feral druids like the hc version as we can stand behind the boss all the time to use our main attack.

What i tried and did was helping the orb team out in the stack up phase. I think Jes found it a bit weird what i did from time to time:narnar:
But for my own feeling it helped out the whole group and since i have a few cd's for protection to use.

Also power aura's is a must for this fight! What happend a few times is that a few seeds went off in the group...

But we killed him and it was a nice fight with some nice dps numbers:devil:

Just to confirm for those not in the instance for the kill and for RGW:

We used the tactic posted up by Slush (continually cycle through a group>spread>group>spread rotation to avoid major abilities) and it worked really well once we'd figured out how to deal with 2 orbs that spawn very close to each other.
The Binary pair (if they spawned) were handled by the 2 x 2 soakers making one bigger group of 4 soakers and doing a 4 person soak rotation.
Otherwise 1 pair of soakers (ranged dps) handled one orb each and generally took a 'left' or a 'right' priority.
rDPS was 201k rdps so we were comfortably ahead of the required 170k rdps to beat the enrage (we had 1 min 14 secs to spare before the enrage).
Power Auras is highly recommended with the above Energy code for the boss to assist when to move.
When movement was needed (group>spread or spread>group) everyone bar the tank moved.  Melee then returned to dps once the change of form had been triggered (this covered e.g. a ranged staying out to let seed explode rather than grouping up and blowing up the raid)

Raid composition was:
- 1 tank
- 2 healers
- 2 melee dps
- 5 ranged dps

Golden Rule was enforced:
-nobody outside the 'ring' on the floor
-max range from boss is preferrably 5 yards inside the ring
Note: if you get too far from the boss you increase the time it takes to collapse and therefore increase the risk of the wrong number being grouped when needed and a transition being missed.  This is an absolute prio for this tactic, to ensure grouping/spreading is fast & efficient.

Tactic worked like a charm, no drama, no hassle, no big healing or cooldowns required, just an 8min 46sec very controlled burn down of the boss.  'It was a thing of beauty to watch' - I'm just annoyed I forgot to run Fraps, sorry, I'll grab it next time!
