i`ve been following this for while now, its looks pretty damn good tbh, much along the line of borderlands, but with better world graphics, and more classes(yea i know borderlands 2 is in the pipe line)
about the game its FREE TO PLAY
basically is a RTS, with team play elements- seek, kill, capture and aquire resources
some you can solo, some you need a few mates, others you need a LOT of mate - like, well LOTS ! the more of you and your budies there are to kill, the less(haha) likley it is for you to be squished(some of the bugs are HUGE !)
the pvp action looks like its going to be interesting, there`s a new vid on Sunken Harbour area
go watch the vids on the above link
click on the media tab(thats on the left of the big FIREFALL logo)
oh and its FREE TO PLAY
hopefully this will get some of us into killing the bugs- before aliens - C.M. arrives !
we have more news on the Firefall front !
here`s a early beta review, yes loads of stuff is not yet implimented, but its like all MMO`s, they take time to "flesh out"
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/12/hands-on-firefall-beta/ (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/12/hands-on-firefall-beta/)
More news Firefall fiends !
Yesterday i got a nice Email from Firefall, saying that they would like me to participate in their closed beta !:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
So, seeing as i was at uni, and was working on one of my projects right up to slow login of wow for the HC madness attempt, i didn't get to download it ;/
Sorted that now, and we are ready to run, jump and shoot.
On the beta note, there`s video of a bloke who looks a bit like TL, explaining very carefully what to look for, and repeating the message, that this is B E T A, and not the full finished game, there may be place holder characters, weapons, sounds etc etc.. for those who know nothing of what a beta is about.. yeeees (think, yank)
so, onwards, and skywards hopefully !
Let the beta begin.
For those still wishing to join the beta here is the link > http://www.firefallthegame.com/game (http://www.firefallthegame.com/game)
Hint the BETA INVITE is in the TOP RIGHT, on the above links page...FYI
See you in game, hopefully !
I've played the beta.
It's fun, for about an hour. Then you've pretty much done everything there is to do and it just becomes a case of grinding to get XP.
Until they inject some more content into the game, it's not worth playing - hopefully this is just a limitation of their beta test.
i`ve managed to get up to level 5 on my assault and have learned several things !
The invite and accept is a bit weird, as you have to /accept...
there is a day and night cycle... this was made out in an exceptional manner to myself, having created a char, and logged it in, it was pitch black, and i mean pitch black, i could hardly see a thing.... so after a few deaths to the beasties... i checked the key binds... yup there`s a flash-light ! (F)
so after some running about, and bouncing all over with the rocket boosts, i headed out into the wilderness to quest a bit...
after a shaky start i had to blow up some rocks, to get 10 bits of this stuff.. i had 4 bombs... forcing me to treck back to town and buy more !
The crafting system is a bit weird, but i think i have the hang of it, find/buy a plan, learn it, then stick it into the ... munching machine, and see what happens.. you then unload the thing and see what you get.
not tried pvp yet, but apparently you can get certain ore from it.
overall i`d say its going to be a grind, but team play is very important, as the thumper (ore digger) need a lot of protection, and can quickly get swarmed under by massed of the little bugs, but one one of them rolling huge things gets onto it, its fubared quick !
Due to the milestone patching, the crafting and levelling system is now gone.
Been in the beta for some time now, playing it on and off after patches and new content and such.
It's a fun game, but you really need friends that play with you and they really need to review some things before launch.
PvE is all about thumping. You scan the earth by hitting a huge hammer on the ground, showing you if a place has resources or not. When you find a spot that has, you call down a thumper to extract these resources. And here the fun begins. The thumping atracts all kinds of bugs, comming at the thumper in waves. The bigger your thumper, the bigger and more bugs will come.
PvP has 4 modes (Team deathmatch; Capture objective A, B and C; Hold objective A-C for points and another I haven't tried yet) with each mode only having 1 map at the moment.
There are 5 roles (Battleframes) to choose from. Dreadnaught (kind of a tank), Assult (aoe dps), Medic (healer), Recon (your sniper) and Engineer (gadgets like turrets and aoe healing platforms). The fun thing is you don't have to start a new char for each role. You only have to switch battleframe whitch can be done at certain stations. Or when you're dead. They each have to be leveled up seperatly tho.
You gain resources for PvE and PvP whitch has to be refined at a station and can then be used to craft gear or nodes (nodes add certain stats like % runspeed or crit effect and such). Gear and recipes for nodes drop from bugs or can be won in pvp.
It's quite fun to just login, play a bit and log out again.
If you think this is interresting: I have 2 more beta invites at the moment. Send me a PM with your e-mail and I can invite you. The first 2 will get them!
All keys gone. Will post again if I get more.
The new milestone stage of beta testing has arrived early this week, i downloaded it last night and its been great fun !
They have made some radical changes to how your character functions by taking out the levelling system, and replacing it with a battle frame tier tree, where you get to choose what you want to spend on, there are 3 tiers in the 1st tree. Its pretty decent, although they need to make the text in the boxes bigger for us old folk, still its beta.
As always if you want to try it out, log onto http://www.firefallthegame.com/ and the beta invite button is on the top right side.
back to thumping for me..............
There`s also a video
Edit- I have reached the point where i can upgrade to the 2nd tier, but cant afford the 7500 crystal cost :/
After discussing with some other folk we think its a bit pricey, as you also have to "Buy" a 2nd battle frame, like you would to chose a different class, so i expect the tier 3,4 & 5 costs to shoot up !

Think I'll give it a try...
Now to wait for a Beta invite...
Joined their mIRC as they were giving away Beta-keys, now I have one also.
Will try out the game and see what it's all about.
i have one beta key going for free, let me know the email address to send it to, and its yours, 1st person wins !
I've been trying out the Beta alot, allready got my Tier 2 almost filled up with Exp for the next battleframes.
For a free MMO it's pretty good but it's quit a grind. They have introduced some new stuff in the latest patch but unfortunatly no extra quests yet.
just got my new pc mag and has a free code for the game, any 1 playing it?
Haven't played it in a bit due to Borderlands 2, CS:GO and BF3.
Might have a look again soon on how it's going.
Resurrecting this thread as the game went live last week and I started playing to get the free bonuses for people who registered back in the day.
I'm quite liking it, it's very BL in it's approach to missions and can be very challenging with it's level based enemies. The good thing is that if you come across another random player in trouble with a mining "Thumper" station running, you can help out and get some of the reward.
If he's a lower level than you, you can be very helpful, but if you join in a higher level mining op, make sure there are a few high level people around.
At the moment the area mission boards are quite repetitive, but to be honest you should have levelled up enough to move onto a higher area before you get to repeat them.
But as you level up your other battle frames you will have to repeat them.
Single character, multiple base battle frame types and sub-models (once you max out the base model or pay cash), each frame with it's own XP levelling. So you just go to a frame station and change from your lvl6 assault frame into you lvl2 recon frame and level that up, without having to log out and back in as another char.
Has it progressed from Drop thumper > Defend thumper > Repeat?
Last I checked it out, it was the same routine, but they changed how battle frames advance/level. This was last year I think.
No idea about now.
There is the default standard frame and 2 advanced frames for each class. Levelling to 40 in the standard frame gets you the tokens to buy and advanced frame. You can also buy unlocks from the in game exchange that people have listed, not sure if that unlocks for use or unlocks to build a new frame.
Thumping is still there, but they have Nerfed the resources it in the latest patches apparently, might be a bug. There are mission boards at each SIN outpost with regional missions, also a main campaign and ARES event missions dotted around the map.
I am playing it a lot to try and level up my engineer before my free 7 day VIP pass runs out and I lose the 25% XP and resources, although you can buy VIP passes in the exchange. 3 days left on mine, so playing it to death.
Once you get the next frame I think it's rinse and repeat gameplay, but I haven't left the main starting map yet, so no idea what's waiting for me in the other maps.
Still trying to get to grips with some of it, the wiki's don't seem to have been updated for the v1+ release.
Resurrecting a thread from 2014 as the newer one got mentioned in the LAN-thread.
Or is there a thread that I've missed?
I've played this a long time ago and started up tonight again. Who's around and is there a clan thingy?
If so, still DuVeL in game.
Also need a new walk through
I started playing this last night with Lib & Sn00ks and I really liked it. Even though I was a 'Level 1' n00b they were able to join me and we spent the night completing missions together. With their excellent guidance I picked up the gist of the game mechanics quickly enough to get into the game without that 'what do I do now' feeling. Recommended.
You can just jump in whenever you want and play any of the basic classes by switching at a battle frame station. The can play 1st or 3rd person.
Missions can be taken from the local job boards (which do contain some story lines) or there are plenty of encounters and random jobs around the area. You often find yourself doing other jobs on your way to a mission waypoint or helping out a fellow player that has been downed.
You have one character, that's it. But that character can wear any of the unlocked frames. You have 5 basic frames that you can access from day 1. You can also change your characters looks at any time, even between male and female.
Dreadnaught = Tank
Assault = DPS
Biotech = healer
Engineer = turrets and supplies
Recon = scout
Basic frames give you a taste of the class, but when you get any frame to lvl40 you get pilot tokens which allow you to unlock an advanced frame of any class. Advanced frames are more specialised and by the time you get a frame to lvl40 you should have an idea of what you will unlock. So levelling an Assault to 40 doesn't mean you have to pick an Assault class advanced frame, you can get one of the advanced Recon frames and become a sniper (I recommend the Nighthawk).
Each frame has to be levelled, but you can switch between them at any time you find a common battle frame station/garage. So you may want to play one frame/class solo, then switch to one of a similar level to play in a squad.
Have a read of the battleframes here. (http://www.firefall.com/battleframes)
Free 2 play on Steam.
I will dl it and jump in thanks guys
Sent from my Nexus 5
dling gonna give it a try
Played this the last two nights, fantastic game and so much fun playing it with other dmw'ers
Thanks Lib for helping me out once again, hope everyone else playing is having as much fun as me :)
Downloading...... so see you in a couple of weeks.
Have made a Army called
Dead Men Walking just apply and we will get you in there.
Take it easy
Had a go at this over the weekend but it's grabbing me as it has others. Have fun though :)

Yay :)
How do we do that? Is there some sort of search option?

The tutorial is quite manic. The game proper is a bit more relaxed.
Downloaded it... Laptop ran it, but at the bottom of the screen it says "your hardware doesn't meet the minimum requirements"... I'm thinking it doesn't recognise the gfxcard/cpu in the laptop
Firefall is quite heavy on resources. It was even worse during the closed beta phase.
The game is nice, but I find it very grindy. It's always the same events over and over and nauseum.
When there's something different it's usually a temporary thing and the servers get slammed into oblivion.
I like it because it's quite simple and easy to play. You can get more involved and do all the research and crafting and more in depth stuff or you can just dive in and shot stuff.
You can leave it for a few weeks when you get bored and then come back and chances are the content has changed and there is some new stuff to do.
Playing together to take on some of the separate instance missions is a lot more challenging and does require a better degree of team-work and a spread of capabilities to take out the bosses.
And best of all it is free.
The first 10 minutes of the game is just tutorial and is quite hectic, once in the man world things settle down as much as you want them to, it's good to pick up job board missions as they earn you local rep with the traders and unlock special items.
World events in the original release were pretty much just melding tornado's and Aries missions with other response missions dotted about. Since then the world has grown and there are now 1 or 2 hourly events on the first 2 areas up to lvl37. The events scale with the number of players involved.
Endgame content was non-existent when myself and Sn00ks started playing, but they have added instance raids and a contested map in the Amazon that also scales on the success of the players in the whole area. Amazon zone, with dailies that unlock a Sunday mission.
There is an update coming by the end of the year which may change the way the Battleframes work and add another map.
Resource grinding for lvl40 gear is heavy, but challenging and that sort of makes it fun. For solo uranium thumping you need a lvl3 thumper and a fully spec'ed Bastion frame or a lvl3 squad thumper and a whole lot of friends.
It's not for everyone, for me it's a happy balance between MMO and FPS with great Co-op, not to mention guns, motorbikes and jetpacks.
I'm looking forward to us getting people up to lvl40 and going out to do some 10-20 man raids, so far I've held off doing them because I want to do them with people I know.
Every frame you get to lvl40 adds a 10% permanent XP boost to you which makes lvling the next frame a bit faster.

Have added you the roster
It kinda makes me wanna go back and play UT.....
Quote from: Chaosphere;404119It kinda makes me wanna go back and play UT.....
i've been trying to double tap dodge without success.
I've been enjoying this although for some reason I didn't see the tutorial and thrown straight into the first world.
I did try and join TS the other day but was having sound/keyboard/mic issues. Turns out my mouse had a faulty cable and the constant on/off messed up my usb ports which messed up my keyboard and headset.
I'll try again next week :)
My character is called Jamoe if that helps anyone.
The tutorial is being thrown into the game. You should have seen a cut-scene with a bunch of talk, and you should have ended up activating a pillar.
Unless things changed.
Ah I think I watched a few videos where you shown how to move, fire weapons etc, then you get the "Activate Broken Pillar" mission. I guess it's changed since those were made.
Oddly although I can now get back into the game, it crashes every ten minutes or so. No idea why as it's not using a huge amount of resources. Free to play games tend to be a bit light on serious bug fixing as long as they work for the majority so I doubt I'll get much help from them. It looked like a nice time sink in a Battlestar Galactica kind of way, shame. If I have a character in the Guild/clan/wahtever you might as well bin it as I don't think I'm going to be able to get reconnected with it.
This is the same issue I had.
Kept crashing to desktop every ten minutes for so and then rejoined. I didn't get to the bottom of it.
Slightly late to this party with this. Downloaded the other day, currently a lvl 6 Dreadnaught. Wouldn't mind finding you guys in game :) Shall find some of you on TS later hopefully.
you see chosen, you shoot chosen.
that is all
Bad news for this game, the developer Red5 missed it's Payroll for December, citing "insufficient funds" to pay it's 80 employees. This follows layoffs last month.
There's a GoFundMe campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/8kggvzn5) titled "Give Red5 Employees Christmas" to raise the salary funds for the employees started by a developer from Blizzard (who has been in the same boat in years past).
An update posted on GameInformer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/12/28/firefall-red5-christmas-employees.aspx)yesterday says Red5 are going to try and pay their staff tomorrow, but it doesn't look promising for the company or Firefall.
I know more than a few dMw's play Firefall, so I thought I'd pass this on as it popped up on my usual news feeds.
thanks for the news update arhtion its sad to hear that they weren't able to get payed but i hope it sorts out soon and i hope the game dont take to much of a hit due to it
Such a mess. A successful game such as Firefall should not be losing money. Strange.
Games like these have to walk a knife's edge in order to make money.
If they are going to be free to play then they need to get people to make micro transactions. If the game can be enjoyed without the micro transactions no one will give them any money and they will go bust. In order to get players to pay for stuff then the publisher needs to get those players to want to buy things. They could make players pay for essential stuff like bag slots, mounts, weapons etc. However if the player downloads and installs the game and then finds that their experience is ruined due to crucial elements of the game being behind a paywall, they will become annoyed and potentially leave the game immediately. If they buy the required assets and then find they keep having to put their hand in their pocket to buy more stuff then again they will become annoyed and leave.
On the other hand if a game publisher can create a game that players enjoy and offers additional stuff that the player doesn't need but potentially really, really wants then the player will happily spend money, feel they are getting value and the publisher stays solvent. Lord of the Rings Online does this by making the game free and very playable but selling an ever growing selection of expansions. Enough players want these expansions to pay for their development and also keep the game servers, community support etc in the black.
It's this crucial balance between making a game fun and rewarding to play for free but add content that they player actually wants, that is so hard for publishers to find. I suspect Firefall plays just fine without ever paying money, hence Red5 are going broke. The danger is that in desperation they will start trying to mug their players for money in a way that will just upset everyone. And that will just make Red5's demise come all the faster.
i'm not gonna panic just yet, but if the worst happens theres always starwars to fall back on.
also
guildwars 2
wildstar
Anyone still playing this? Find me as Gh0stLy1.
You should apply to the Dead Men Walking army and we can get you in. We still play and you can get help from the guys.
But......................
Big News... I think.
QuoteRequired Maintenance
Because of the nature of the changes coming in this update, we need to bring the servers offline for maintenance and migration. On Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00 AM PST we will be bringing all of our production game servers offline to perform this required maintenance. Because of the nature of the work that needs to be performed, we expect to be down for approximately 26 hours.
During this downtime we will also be updating the website content and working to get the Update Notes page up and running.
Update Launch
Once the maintenance is complete, we will bring the servers back online and Update 1.6 will be available for all to play in production! We expect to bring the servers online on Wednesday, January 20th at 10:00 AM PST.
Excellent :D
I have applied to join the Deadmen army.
Oh oh.
Quote from: FadedPezHey all, I'd like to provide you with another update. We will be delaying the release of Update 1.6. Here is a brief look at where we are currently:
- The Migration interface is not displaying upon login
- Old abilities are not showing data and have blank tooltips (these should at least be communicating that they need to be salvaged)
- Incorrect error popups when purchasing Red Bean items
- Steam purchase error
- QA is still running their Smoke Test. They are making progress, but it is slow as there are further issues creeping up that impedes their progress.
We're currently tracking and working to fix critical issues as soon as we can. We currently do not have an ETR for you. We're going to let the team work away at these issues and circle back up for a status update in about two hours. I will be sure to provide you with any updates following that meeting.
Servers are apparently live, but I think it's best to stay off the servers until they get this migration script sorted.
Basically your characters are not available until the migrate.
Quote from: FadedPez[Jan 21st. 7:01 PM PST]
Update on the migration script: we're still working on the code here. Each time we deploy it internally and test we find new issues and edge cases so we're going to need to keep hammering at it. While we are still working at getting this right, we won't be deploying it to production today. I'll have an update on the script's progress in the morning.
[Jan 21st. 5:00 PM PST]
The update is now live, but without migration. Characters created prior to the start of the maintenance are currently hidden. Don't worry, they aren't gone! We're continuing to work on our migration script. We're getting really close with it and once it's completely done and tested we will deploy the script and pre-existing characters will be visible again (with no changes to them). At that point, you may step through your character migration and get back to playing your character.
We'll continue to keep you updated with the migration script progress within this thread.
Lots of stuff is broken, a lot of your favourite gear is now useless. Lockboxes and key's have appeared as a revenue generator, so you'll be getting a lot of the former dropping.
Weapons and abilities that have remained are completely different.
Don't unslot prototype gear, you won't be able to put it back. Don't unslot the smouldering sniper if you have it, it will become useless, even though it works if already slotted..
Sky buses in Copa have gone, it's all back to running and biking..
Storyline now seems to be the main improvement, with a lot more instance missions. Not sure if the lore has changed at all. You will have to start from scratch at Copa and run the missions through as they are dependant on each other.
Blowing up nodes now just gets you crystite, metal resources are not present for the time being.
Be thankful you have gliders and bikes already, it looks like renting with redbeans has now become another revenue source. Reusable jump pads are not listed in the store any more, but the ones we have are fine.
Sertao is a mess, I hate what they have done to it.
It's a bit like we have gone forward 20 years into a more distopian future.
Some may like the changes, but they have removed the simplicity of the game, which was what I mainly liked about it.
Thanks for the update, Lib. I'm not tempted to even try it to be totally honest.
Sadly it sounds like our fears have been realised. From reading the above clearly the Developer is trying to increase revenue and as with so many games like this all they have done is effectively killed it :crying:
Give it a try anyway, some missions do drop keys with the lockboxes.
Sertao us just too cluttered with new buildings, it's lost it's openness. I liked Sagan as a central place of operations, but all of the outpost bases are now huge.
Arcporters are gone, you now go to the old bus pads and there is a parked dropship that opens up the old menu, so far just Sertao and the missions are listed.
Battleframe cores have been replaced with armour modules and upgrades, which allows for more bespoke builds. Some old rewards are reclaimable as new "gadgets" with similar effects when salvaged. Salvaging now gives you upgrade resources dependant on the salvage.
But Oldie will have plenty of chances to use his catchphrase.
Waiting on Pesteh and Dannage to give their feelings on the changes.
Well, it won't be long before they switch the servers off I think. Popped onto it today just to see what had been messed up recently and found myself in an empty Sertao, popped over to DT and found a few players just sat in the arcfold room getting their daily timers, nobody actually moving.
Forums say they got rid of the remaining Red5 developers recently and the developer forums have gone silent.
But.... there may be hope.
The original designer of the game, which was intended to be more sandbox and story driven, and MD of Red5 was sacked a while back for reasons unknown (probably told the investors what he thought of the changes they had forced him to do). In the meantime he's been working with the team lead of WoW to create a new table top RPG game called "Crixa (http://crixa.io)". Well he's now wanting to create the "Firefall" game he originally wanted to, so they are looking at making it, but they won't sell him the IP for FF, so's taking the games concepts and creating a "Spiritual Successor".
Ember (http://crixa.io/emberthegame/) is to be based in the Crixa universe and lore and is currently looking to find out how many people are interested in it being produced. There are links on the site to info and a petition to gauge interest.
Here's a teaser and you'll recognise the voice if you played Firefall.

Lets hope it gets made and takes the best bits of FF and makes it better.
His blog on the Crixa site was an interesting read, especially this bit: http://crixa.io/2016/05/what-firefall-was-supposed-to-be/
If this gets funded, I'll certainly be paying attention.
