Title: Regarding Squ0nks post about Admins
Post by: Dr Sadako on November 07, 2003, 11:35:16 PM
http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showt...t=0&#entry34088 (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3594&st=0&#entry34088)

We have two problems.

1. We have a "shortage" of online admins at the moment. Right now it is only me, OB, TL and JAS that are frequently avail and also regularly admining. I don't see this as a huge problem at all but when alltalk is forgot on and six online dMw peeps can't turn it off then it is a problem, which leads me to the next problem.

2. One of our members (non admin) know the rcon password for the servers. I know this because alltalk was eventually turned off by a non admin. I don't know by who, but the fact remain.

Suggestions to fix this:

1. Change the rcon password. Sure it was good that someone eventually turned alltalk off, but I don't like non admins having admin access on the server. Worst case scenario is that the password could be spread or someone going haywire on the server after a heavy night at the pub.

2. Limited admin access on the server? Is it possible to give someone limited rcon access? Still I don't think this is a solution.

3. Leave alltalk off at all times?

4. Install some extra server admins maybe. I think we are have enough admins allready (11 of 30) in here, but we could issue some deputies with rcon access. Same as 2 I guess.

Cheers,

Ooops.  Leaving alltalk on was my mistake.  I turned it on earlier in the evening when it was just me and Morbid playing on dust for 15 rounds or so.  Big apologies.

I'll think about the other stuff.

I've added sv_alltalk 0 to the servers' config files so if it's left on by mistake again it will be turned off at map change.

OB and I have discussed the shortage of Admins, particularly in light of current availability and the forthcoming re-launch of TCS.   We have decided that the best course of action is to invite some existing members to become 'Game Admins'.

We envisage a Game Admin being able to execute rcon commands as necessary and providing support to our existing team of full Admins.  We would also expect them to defer to full Admins when one is on their team, after all, we can't have 2 consecutive rcon message possibly saying different things about the same event!

We have invited the following people to become Game Admins:

Blueball
Doorman
Slowhand
Smilodon
Squonk

If they accept the position they will be advised of the rcon password and will receive some instruction on rcon commands, standards expected and the general MO.  We will post further when we have more to say.

I can agree with this list except for Slowhand. He got a short fuse and have lost his temper and left the server on many occations when things haven't gon "his way". Not suited in my opinion.  <_<

Is FatBob returning as admin? I know Smite and Albert will be back soon.

Only my five though,

Think of the list as second tier admins, hence Game Admins rather than full Admins.  As such FB's and other's positions do not change.

Slowhand could work either way.  However it does put him in a position whereby he has to do something about it rather than just talk about it.  Sometimes when you challenge someone like that they step up to the plate for you and hit a homer............ (pun intended)

I agree with the game admins but also agree Sadako's point on Slowhand.
Doorman is a very good choice.

With the possibility of dMw going multi-game sometime in the future can I suggest that these new guys are badged as 'CS Admin' instead of 'Game Admin'?

EDIT:

Make that 'TCS Admin'.

I've created a new group on the forum - 'TCS Admin'.

I will shortly add the five TCS Admins to this group. They will have visibility of the 'Admin - News/Announcements' and 'Admin - TCS Admins' sections.

I should also have said that all five accepted the invitation to become TCS Admins.  :D

Or you could just click the 'hide' button on HLSW and *not* break his fingers.

Baaah, what the heck, break his fingers anyway if it wil make you feel better ;)

I remember him mentioning at LAN 2 that he got hold of the Rcon password when the Blackadder server made an appearance..... I honestly thought he was joking so didnt follow it up sorry......
Doesnt matter now as it has been changed but maybe the rcon password needs changing more regular..
