To try and get some structure in our budding fleet I thought it would be worth working out who is specialising in which areas so we don't all do the same thing or overlook any crucial elements. What skills and ships should a wing group contain? Should we have different skills/ships for different tasks? I for one am concentrating on fighter skills and hope to upgrade to a Banshee soon.
im willing to go down the electronic warfare route
Fight and fade is my plan
I'm electronic warfare, with a Spectre. Might look at the Assault ships too. I agree we need to spread out and diversify a bit.
What are the main types you can play? I am a fighter at the moment but that is very early stages and am specking heavily into powerful weapons for fast hit and run strategy.
I'm half way through writing a quick guide to ship types. Will be posted up tomorrow
I'm in the light strike fighter role at the moment. Early days so can specialise when I get more knowledge of the game!
moi aussi
Alb3rt is L17 and I have an Advanced Raider. L5 or 6 Cannons and Missiles, same for engines and hull. L3 across the board for skills training. Also have L3 or 4 computer add ons across the board.
Also have an Advanced Heavy Raider but prefer the normal Raider for strikes.
Have 1.2m Tylium and 47k cubits and 200k Titanium saved up.
Lets discuss the Wings requirements before I spend as at 2m Tylium and L20 I can buy a Line.
Already got enough to get an Escort and fully load it thinking Banshee or Wraith.
Cheers,
Albert

I'm going down the Electronic Warfare, Support & Counter-Measures route.
TL is currrently flying a L15 Advanced Heavy Raider with Level 10 computers for all EW. Not really put any time into researching improved weapons, just focused on the EW upgrades.
Aiming for an Advanced Hel in the long run, not sure if I will skip the Spectre and jump straight to the Hel, or if I need go the intermediate route first.
OK so let us say that we have a number of build options. Electronics, Attack and a combination of both.
What do you think a strike force should consist of?
50% Attack, 25% Electronics and 25% Mixed?
25% Attack, 50% Electronics and 25% Mixed?
Or some other option?
The spectre gives a nice introduction to flying larger ships. It's very different to flying interceptors and in appreciating the chance to try a different play style. Give it a go
i`m thinking of getting something big, with lots of guns
we need more DAKKA !!

On the BSGO forums I read that this type of ship is fine for Op Missions and working with a Wingman Escort to cover your back. But solo they have such large blind spots a level 25 dedicated Strike can pwn you, one who has maxed out everything needed to be extra fast and can outflank you. Alternatively you could run it as a squad member but you'll find that you do more work than your team mates as you have the firepower but it costs far more Tylium to fuel and Titanium to repair, ammo is more expensive, plus you don't get as much a return in a squad as such a big ship could get alone. So Line = Op Missions to destroy Outposts, that's where you get your reward.
Are we going to take on a Colonial outpost in the near future?
I suspect not so line class may be a liability.
I think we will enjoy taking out those pesky water-sacks so a more nimble craft would be better. I imagine us hunting like a wolf pack, working together to take down large prey.
Then every so often we go on a mining frenzy to replenish our stocks.
Oh I am up for some wolf pack mailing of the bags of bones

Aye, that's why I will probably load up my current Advanced Heavy Raider to the max before doing much else.
I have my Advanced Banshee now, but will require some time and resources to make it formidable.
We have about 5 Escorts and 1 line ship so far, not enough for an OP take down, hardly enough to keep mines running..
Im happy with the little fighter at the moment tho if we find a roll we are short on ill do that
I must agree with JAS, the Raider is fine for me right now as well. Perhaps in time move to a War Raider or a Banshee. I'm thinking the Escort ship might be useful for mining quicker or defending a mine solo.
For a game that seems to have limited choices, it's darn hard making 'em.
I have my Raider and Banshee and will continue to develop both to their full potential I think. On the dalies the Banshee is good for taking out platforms and getting you to a frontier outpost, but then I switch to the Raider to go into enemy territory and do my missions.
I was nearly wiped out by a level 14 viper in my Banshee as it just sat inside my hull like glue and fired away out of the reach of my guns. Luckily a nearby Raider realised he would be next if he didn't help out and so did the needful.
Very close call.
I'll be getting all my systems up to level 10 first, the Banshee is an advanced hull, but I only have the basic weapons on there.
I would say a 3 man squad should be a line or escort, with two Raiders, at a high enough level, this would be able to defend a mine without too much of a problem.
Unless you find Fee's Planetoid of hell, like we did last night with around three elite escort's and line ships on us all the time.
We don't have a large or powerful enough fleet to do this yet, so 5 man squads of 2 large ships and 3 Raiders seems to be able to cope well enough and the rewards are not too small.
I'm not sure I'm going to have the play-time to make it up to a decent ship. That said if I can start with you guys then leach away still long after I've gone elsewhere then all good :)
Thanks, again, for the help last night. I'm getting myself sorted on it. I'll bang out an article I've got to write then have a play at the office.
I idly wondered if I could play at 9am while most people don't, jump to a far off planetoid and mine while it's quiet. Umm how does one call in the mining ship?
Quote from: Penfold;334819Umm how does one call in the mining ship?
If you scan a planetoid and it has Titanium/Water/Tylium then there is a pop up window to ask if you want to order in a mining ship. Just click 'Yes', but then prepare to defend it - as new mining ship is always followed by an NPC shortly after it starts mining.
I did a bit of searching yesterday and came to the conclusion that I really like the look of the Wraith and Jormung. I also hit level 10 last night but the cost of a Wraith is 600,000 Tylium and I am about 350,000 short. The cost of a Jormung is 2mil Tylium and am wondering if it is worth just working on my raider for now until 20 and save up for the 2mil needed at level 20.
This class of ship looks like a damage absorbing thicky or Tank in wow, and wonder if there are any computer items which increases threat or can divert attack.
