Title: Thinking about the 12 month deal
Post by: Azunai on October 24, 2011, 05:08:02 PM
So, I was considering the future of my WoW payment and Diablo III, and was thinking about that 12 month pledge. I have to refresh my subscription at the end of this week, so considering my options.

The deal with the 12-month subscription is that you commit yourself to paying for the game for at least the next 12 months. You can do this in any way you like, via the normal subscription route, but you *have* to keep paying for at least another year. You can't stop mid way or they'll probably sue you or whatnot as you're breaking contract.

Then I started thinking of the benefits. Sparkly mount aside, you get Diablo III for free. That's 50 bucks for free. Let's introduce some numbers (going in Euro's here, sorry Brits ;-) ):

WoW Subscription costs:
1 months - 13
3 months - 36
6 months - 66

Diablo III - 50 (probably)
Diablo III CE - 70 (is a guess, anyone who has any WoW/SC CE's able to tell me what that price was? I'm guessing it'll be the same)

Let's assume I'm playing for another year, also going to buy Diablo III CE but not use the 12-month offer. Using the 3 month subscription offer (what I usually do), I'd pay:

(36 * 4) + 70 = 214

If I take the 12 month offer and grab DIII CE (which instead of giving you the Diablo game for free, gives you 4 months of WoW for free), I would naturally pay the 6 months option twice. Since I'm committing to 12 months anyway, I might as well make it as cheap as I can. I'm also assuming the months you get for free is just 4 x the 1 month sum, 13. That leaves us with a total cost of:

(66 * 2) - (13 * 4) + 70 = 150

That's 64 bucks less, just under 30% discount on the whole thing. The only downside to this that I can see is that I have to commit myself to another year of WoW - or at least pay for another year of it. On the upside, I *will* buy Diablo III CE, and I *will* subscribe for at least another 3 months, I can say that much. So I'm spending 106 bucks of the whole thing anyway.

So, what do you guys think? Worth taking? Will WoW still be worth playing in a year and will DMR still be raiding? I realise there's a whole lot of factors involved here, like my own RL situation, but assuming I'll keep playing WoW there's a nice discount to be had. Anyone else thought about the deal and want to share their input?

I will be getting this deal myself as I am really looking forward to D3 and that free + a mount and guaranteed spot on the MoP beta seems like a pretty fine deal to me. And as for if DMR will stop raiding, that is impossible to tell but I highly doubt it. Also if you get the D3 collectors edition and the annual pass you get 4 months free off the pass if that makes a difference to you.

Yea that's what the calc is based on ;-) Note that the CE itself will not be free. Instead of getting the game for free as a digital download you get those funds returned as free WoW months.

I already took it! You never know what the future brings and if DMR will be still raiding or not. You also don't know how much attraction DIII will have to you and maybe you even want to go to the dark side
playing the Star Wars game, though I have serious doubts about the game since ever I learned that Electronic Arts is the producer.

I think it is a good deal -which are rarely offered by Blizzard-, and if you keep playing wow you get a sizeable discount and another exciting game.

Moreover finally they will do something for the poor, abandoned, forgotten enhanced shammies!:woot2:

QuoteShaman
Level 90 shaman talents--Elemental Harmony--will not be used on three fire totems, and you can't duplicate.
Enhancement shaman are agreed to be a bit weak right now--hopefully 4.3 will help.

DIII *will* be awesome, there is simply no question ;-)

I'm convinced, by the power of logic! This friday I'm extending with a commitment pass :P

It seems you are already on with your plan, and from my point of view is a very good plan.
I'm still wondering if i'll be attracted to another diablo game, at least like i was on the previous editions. I have never played diablo as a mmo, just some cooperative multiplayer with some friends on a LAN built ad-hoc.

Yep, I've renewed my subscription two days ago, and took the deal.

Diablo truly shines in multiplayer ;-) It's not an MMO though. I'm really excited about the Battle.net integration. We can do coops whenever we feel like it, just jump into eachother's session, no need to set up a seperate game!

I personally think im going to go for the physical media (discs for those not using IT jargon :D ) simply due to the fact i prefer to physically own things as all it takes is some form of (Highly rare and unlikely error) that somehow buggers blizzards servers and back ups and you have lost all the data of people and there keys product past etc.... plus i like filling my shelf :P

Of course I want the discs. That's why I'm getting the CE instead of the digital download ;-)

I do have SC2 only as digital though... and I reckon the chance of Blizzard's servers crashing and you losing your access to the digital game is about as likely as a fire in your house that destroys the physical copy :P

The fire in his house is more likely than losing access to the digital game for any significant length of time due to the fact Blizzard have DR plans and offsite backups :flirty:

dont forget the "SHINEH PONEH!" we all want one... dont we ?
also the fugly pet thing- fetish shaman... now, i`m pretty sure some of the dmr  people have a fetish...yea..

i took out the years pass as i pay every 6 months, so this makes 0 differance for me, and if they decide to give away free stuff, for clicking a few buttons, that make no differance to me, then i`ll be taking the free stuff

also i`m a big diablo fan, played d1, and d2.. for a very long time, and had several lvl 90+ char, inc a 99 frost mage, and a 99 pole arm barb, which totally ticked me off when they utterly nerfed polearm barbs... we couldnt kill much- hell level was fun, then became a bit of a nightmare(see what i did there)

I will teach you, padawan. As long as you don't roll a gnome - of which there are none so that's easy enough xD

EDIT: I don't think there are any 'team' options. You can create parties but I think that works the same as in SC2 - session based. But that's a minor obstruction!

Hopefully creating different builds will be as much fun as D2 is. I used to have a Tesladin and a Healerdin. Great specs. Tesla was funny, damage was pure RNG but you could get the ocasional boss 1 shot with an insnae crit. (think I was doing something like 1-15000 damage per hit). The Healerdin was funny, surprised groups and got alot of haters, but also alot of love was given to the guy in the party that kept everyone alive.

had a hammerdin and zealadin at one point, zealadin was fine until ya hit an "immune to physical" mob then you were screwed lol, hammeredin with rune gear etc was just OTT could stand next to uber diablo and just hammer him to death

Just worked my way through Travincal/Meph on Hell with a 76 sorc. I'm sitting on 320% mf, meaning I am a glass cannon - only wearing MF gear that isn't all that good besides the MF (although I still throw around 7k Fireballs and 11k meteors). Damn immunes, took me a good 15 minutes to clear Meph room, then the bugger only drops yellow/blue crap. :<

if you get a barbarian right its just amazing up until diablo (after its also fine) as you can just hack and slash your way through everything with 2 2h weapons :D
